  1. I dropped the 01. I am in Texas at a training class; i only have my 01 with me. I would probably be still crying if I dropped my 84.
  2. I just made my Donation. Happy to do so. Drop a bike, and only have to pay $5 to a great site. I can live with that.
  3. I was pulling into a parking lot as someone was backing into a spot near the entrance. They pulled forward to correct and I was going for the same piece of the parking lot. I was turning left, so I was leaned over a little and the sudden stop caused the bike to go to the ground. I stayed upright, and the bike was already dropped on both sides by the PO, so no new damage to the bike. Just a few fresh scrapes on top of the old ones on the crash bars. These bikes are amazingly gently to put down, and they are not bad to pick back up. The only thing hurt was my pride.

I am currently running a set of Shinko 777's on my 84. I have not gotten a whole lot of mileage on them. Probably around 3K, but they look brand new, and I abuse the heck out of them. Tested them in rain, high & Low altitude, twisties, and the brutal desert. I will be seeing if they make the right size for my second gen when I get home.
  5. Thanks for your videos and tales. You are the main reason I decided to go buy my 84 and ride it back instead of shippimg it back. Both cost the same, but the adventure would have been lost by shipping it. Seeing you run around our lower 48 on Tweeks makes me not worry about running around on my bikes. I know that if I run into a problem, I can search VRO and find an easy fix that you did road side. Keep the stories coming.
  6. just you wait, it won't be too long before you walk out to the garage and say "Where is Tweeks...and where is Tippy?"
  7. That thing is beautiful. Makes me wish I wasn't 1,200 miles away from my 84 right now.
  8. Yamaha, If you are listening, I am 31 and own a 1984 Venture, and a 2001 RSV. I am very brand loyal, I have had a V-star 650, and 2 R-6s. Being only 31, I have a lot of years of riding left in me. I want to add an MKII and a third gen venture to my stable. there are some things that I want on my 3rd gen. -EFI -Better sound system (Harley sound systems are amazing) -V4 power plant. new vMax motor would be awesome -Removable trunk (would prefer removable bags to like my 84, but the trunk is a must) -intercom hook ups that work with off the shelf products -stop with all the chrome. it takes away from riding time. -shaft driven -transmission that does not whine -Clutch that does not slip when towing a trailer -LED lighting Truth be told, if you could update my 84 with a bigger motor and better sound, I would buy that in a heart beat. Gen 1 was the best.
  9. Sorry, this is my first time to log in since I have gotten here. I did go out and buy a Harbor Freight tag along trailer. It worked well. I will post pictures up here later. I have added some reflective stuff to the back of it so far, and I have purchased the LED lights to replace the original junk. I will install those before my return trip. Wichita Falls has had so much flooding that my trailer was washed to the other side of my parking spot and my saddle bags filled with water. The water was almost waist high. That was fun to wake up to on the first day of class.
  10. I have a class in Texas starting wednesday that lasts until June 30th. I was going to take my Suburban (87) but she had a different plan. She started overheating bad about 110miles in. So now I am back home trying to fit all my gear on my bike. If anyone in the Las Vegas Nevada area has a trailer I could tow with my bike, I would be forever in your debt. you can also pass me leads for decently priced ones in my area. I need to get it today so I can leave first thing tomorrow morning. 405-208-1370 is my cell, call or text is fine with me. Also, because of my suburban acting up, I will be in north texas with my RSV for the next 6 weeks. hit me up if you want to meet for ice cream or something. -Preacher
  11. I swerve back and forth pretty hard. That let's me know when I am 2-7 psi low. Anything more than that, I feel as soon as I take off. I hate squishy tires.
  12. Nellis Desert Eagles Riding Club. I am the only RSV surrounded by a bunch of Harleys, Victories, and a beautiful Indian Roadmaster. They don't like me to ride my 84 with them. Makes the RC look bad. I do it a lot just for fun and to give the 2001 a break.
  13. it is showing 53,807. i am unsure if that should be a 153,807 or just 53. the bike has seen much better days.
  14. one would hope. I still have 2nd gear on a 31 yr old bike. I call that a win.
  15. Dang, previous owner said my bike had been done. I do not have that mark. my transmission is smooth as a baby's backside right there.
  16. I'd put my 84 against his GW any day or an older GW. I think there is a lot that can made up for by the rider.
  17. Thanks for the kind words Ron, I had a good time working with you today. I cannot wait to get out on the open road with you and your wife. Thanks again for the goodies; more specifically the hammer.
  18. He even let me wrench on his bike. I went over to Kantornado's house and we replaced his rear brake rotor. We had some issues with mufflers that did not want to come off, and rotor bolt that were thread locked and put on by the hulk. We won at the end of the day. There is not much that 2 determined military men cannot conquer. I really won at the end of the day. Ron had a spare couple of speakers lying around, and a spare rear light bar. the coolest thing was this hammer that is pictured below. He made a few many years ago, and said he is very particular about who he gives them out to. he also took the time to stamp my initials in the handle. I am a sentimental guy to begin with, but this is awesome, and I will treasure it forever. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/Mobile%20Uploads/image_1.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/Mobile%20Uploads/image_2.jpg
  19. nobody said it had to be an Ice skating rink. There is a roller skating rink across from my church, but every time I remember this thread, I am in a cage.
  20. Dang, you stopped at my favorite part of your adventure. Looking forward to the next installment.
  21. charged the battery and took it to Autozone. it passed the load test. I cleaned all the connections well and put the battery back in. If the problem persist, I will have to troubleshoot my charging/ignition system. hopefully it does not come to that.
  22. Well the green 01 RSV battery charged, and passed it's load test at Autozone. I cleaned all the connections very well and put the battery back in. I guess it is time to start checking other things if the problem persists.
  23. I am a Texan misplaced by the Air Force in Las Vegas; I have no clue what that white powdery stuff is. I saw some on Mt Hood in Oregon, I don't think I like it.
  24. It must be something with those green 01s. Mine had the antennas switched when I got it too. luckily the guys on this forum were quick to point it out.
  25. It started like every other day. I grabbed my green 01 RSV and headed into work. I have been having an issue with it (started thread about issue in 2nd gen tech). When I came out for lunch, it acted up again by resetting my tripmeter and starting hard. for this reason I garaged it and pulled my Blue 84 Venture out of the garage. It started just fine, so I took it in to work. At the end of the day, I went out and started the 84. at the same time I started the bike, the base played the National Anthem. I did not want to be a jerk and rev the crap out of my bike for the whole national anthem, so I let my bike die and turned off the key to not kill the battery...or so I thought. The bike would not fire back up, and I had to call the wife to come get me and my battery. so now I have the battery on the battery tender now, which unfortunately kicks the green 01 RSV off the tender. I noticed a sticker on the side of the battery for the 84 that said 2008. I am pretty sure I need to replace it. So I am possibly going to be replacing 2 batteries, 1 clutch(01), 4 plugs(84), oil and filters for both, valve cover gasket(84), and brake pads(84) all in the next month. should be fun, and then both bikes should be free from needing repair for a little while. I hate leaving my bike in a parking lot.
