  1. I am a southern boy raised in the great state of Texas, and I have been going to Penn State for a year now, so by all means, I should hate Michigan. Which I would if it did not house my favorite venture riding couple and if it was not the place that I finally found my trailer hitch for my 1984. $150 shipped. Not a bad deal at all. Pretty stoked about getting it and putting it on. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/84%20Venture/Screenshot_20170610-071026.png
  2. Yeah, the price was a bit to swallow, but my other ones are really bad. I bought 30+ other bolts, screws, and washers for $10 less than what I just spent on 4 screws. Oh well, I love that bike and will buy her anything.
  3. Thanks snyper and Bluesky, I just ordered 4 new ones from the link.
  4. This little problem may have created a monster. I went to go get bolts to replace the 3 that were messed up and they only had black oxide bolts. So I got enough to replace all the side engine cover bolts so they would match. Then I dug through all my other bolts and screws and replaced all the ones that were slightly messed up, rusty or marred. Unfortunately I cannot find replacements for the windshield trim screws. Does anyone know where I can order those screws from?
  5. My Craftsman 33gal compressor also lost the ability to hold pressure a while back. I ordered the valve rebuild kit and it works perfect. I don't know what kind of drain you have, but I replaced the little bolt and ball with a 90 degree pipe, extension, ball valve, and hose fitting. Now I can leave it in place and drain the condensation outside.
  6. I got that bolt head ground completely off, and then had another really stuck bolt on the cover to the rear of the stator cover. I was able to easily Dremel it off. What is the name of that cover, I need to buy a new gasket. Next question, should I buy all new gaskets, use gasket maker, or cut my own gaskets. All the ones on eBay look like someone bought a roll of gasket material and cut them. The other side (clutch basket) was cake, all the bolts came out. The bottom few took a lot of torque and sounded like a .22 Cal going off when they broke loose, but they did come off.
  7. I have only had 1 belt driven bike (2006 Harley 1200R). I did not hate it but their was a slight lag to the power being out to the wheel. It felt almost like a sling shot at times. Shaft drive is much more instant with the power. Although I know it is possible to strip out gears, I just trust it more when I am fooling around; which I do often.
  8. I am going after work today to buy some left handed drill bits and a better rotary tool. I only have the cheep 18K RPM one from Harbor Freight. I will be getting a DeWalt or Dremel that can do 30K+ and deliver a lot of torque. I will finish grinding away the head so I can remove the cover. Should be easier after that.
  9. I have been trying to drill the head off. It is no longer working. I am wondering if a diamond burr bit or something like that would work. Then I could just Dremel the head off.
  10. I try to do something nice for my bike and it slaps me in the face. I was trying to stop a little oil leak and was also going to install my new clutch springs. One of the bolts decided not to cooperate. I drilled out the middle and used an extraction bit and then the extraction bit snapped. Now I cannot drill through the extraction bit. I am current using brand new DeWalt cobalt drill bits. They have dulled pretty fast on the extraction bit. Has anyone ran into this issue, and do you have a good way to the bolt out? It of course had to be the recessed one. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/84%20Venture/PHOTO_20170604_121241.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/84%20Venture/PHOTO_20170604_121224.jpg
  11. I do not know if they are the same, but I will look into it.
  12. In all of this "spring cleaning" did anybody happen to run across a spare MK1 trailer hitch that would be willing to sell? I sold the 2nd gen a while ago, and I still have the trailer, no hitch to pull it with on my 84.
  13. Does anyone happen to have an MK1 Trailer hitch for sale or happen to know where I can get one? I have not been able to find one on EBay. I had one on my 2nd gen, so I bought a trailer, now I sold the 2nd gen and my 1st Gen does not have a hitch. Thanks in advance for any leads.
  14. Are you going to be in a cage or on a bike? Que Mas is my favorite Mexican food here. All of the Cirque de Solei shows are great. For cheap tickets, get to Tix for Tonight each morning and see what they have. Also let me know if you need anything while you are here.
  15. The Suburban is TBI. It starts fine. I am just leaking all sorts of fluid. I am trying to sell it, so I need to go ahead and fix all the issues.
  16. That video was with the TCI plugged in and no MAP sensor. It should be arriving soon. As soon as it gets in and I have loaded the program that Heather sent me, I will sync the carbs and check the plugs again. They are new as well as the oil, so it should sound all pretty after that. This will be a little while from now as my 1987 Suburban decided that it does not like retaining any fluid. I will be replacing the radiator, master cylinder, power steering pump and rear diff seal over the next two weekends. Good thing I love working on vehicles, or this would be super expensive.
  17. I found the answer to the question I was asking. You can download the software from the ignitech site. Here is a link to a ton of useful information about the Ignitech TCI. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?40414-Aftermarket-TCI-available!&highlight=ignitech
  18. Here is a short video. This is with the TCI straight from the box. I did not adjust it or even hook it up to my computer. I do not have the additional sensor that a lot of people talk about getting. I am sure I will probably get it soon. Do you all think the ticking is the normal Yamaha tick?
  19. Do they even make any aftermarket accessories for our bikes that are not pictured on Big Red? That is a beautiful bike.
  20. That would be awesome if you could send me a good program. My email is Christopher.coffey@hotmail.com Was the TCI supposed to come with a disk that contains the custom programming program or can you download the program?
  21. Yeah, it was very poorly applied. I was more concerned with the amount of rust and a few resisters that looked like they had been overworked. The leads going from the board to the pins were bad. I bet most of my problem was there. Not that it matters much now. I will have a new TCI here today as long as DHL will take the signature of someone who is not me. My bike is still in a million pieces, so hopefully I can fix that this weekend.
  22. The oven and sandblasting cabinet are both from HF. I have the election static powder gun from them as well. It works much like the commercial ones. You hook an electrode to the part, you step on a pedal to electrify everything and you pull the trigger to spray powder. If you you get the gun tip too close, you start welding.
  23. You also need a way to get the part down to bare metal. Aircraft paint remover works for painted surfaces, but you need to sandblast or something else if you are trying to remove chrome.
  24. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/Mobile%20Uploads/PHOTO_20161125_205424.jpg i use a hobby oven in the garage. I usually shoot the powder on the racks, so the wife would get upset with me powdercoating her oven racks.
  25. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/Harley2.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j169/coffeyR6/Harley62.jpg That was all done with the HF powder coating gun and the hobby oven. I almost got every piece of chrome off of that bike. When you think you found everything something else will pop out at you. I used semi gloss black, high gloss black, and wrinkle black.
