Hi all, I finally picked up the Venture, and it is everything I thought it would be... But now it's time to wash it, and it might sound like a silly question, but I have to ask: What about hosing it down with the speaker grills being open like they are? I guess it'll be ok, but I need to ask.... Thanks
-
Yeah yeah ... thats what I was thinking of! Thanks!

Hmmmmm... none of those is what I'm looking for... although the half covers are nice. MAybe thats what I need and I just dont know it! Thanks all for the replies... if I find what I think I'm looking for I will post it here... I'm on a hunt now... me and my sandwich ...

At the risk of reopening this thread, I just wanted to wrap my topic up. I picked up my RSV last Thursday and put M61A1MECH lightbar on it on Saturday, and I just want to say that that installation could not possibly have been more flawless. Very very nice product. Thank you to all who helped me along the way, and especially to M61A1MECH for an incredible job.

If it is I'll take it......
-
And it's looks like the one on the eBay ad? Can someone new to this bike get this installed themselves? How does it mount? Do you take PayPal?
-
Thanks! Don't understand it yet, but good to see! Appreciate it.

Plug & play on a 2006 RSV too? I think I might be interested!

So, at the risk of opening up a dead thread... I'm wondering how this all worked out ... not that I understood a lot of it! From what I did grasp you are trying to use regular mini plug earbuds or speaker(s) and another mini plug to a microphone and put these two mini plugs through an adapter that connects it into the standard sound / intercom system so there are affordable options...?? Is that correct? If so, thats what I'm looking for info on! Did anyone ever get this to work and produce a How-to? I might be willing to donate to the cause if that would help move this along. I'm not understanding any of the technical stuff, but I am hoping to get some guidance. Thanks

As I think I mentioned above I wrote to Ram Mount to ask about this. I thought I'd share their reply. Thanks to all who helped me out! ========================================== Hi Mike, Thanks for your e-mail. Unfortunately, this review is true and, no, we have not updated the design since it was made. The reason these mounts rotate is that the X-Grip mounts are universal and designed to hold a device larger than the one the reviewer is using. In other words, the closer to the maximum width of the X-Grip your device is, the less it will rotate. We have explored solutions for this, however, most would limit the universality of the mount or be prohibitively expensive. We have come up with a fix that works quite well; however, its not the most elegant solutions: if you break off a section of Popsicle stick slightly shorter than the distance the arms of the X-Grip rotate and place this section between one arm and the body of the X-Grip you can limit the movement of the arms and eliminate the rotation issue. Thanks for your interest in RAM Mounts and please let me know if there are any other questions I can help with. Best regards, Reid Mortimer National Products, Inc | RAM Mounting Systems

Thanks awesome! We will be putting your Mom and the whole family on the prayer list. Expect a miracle!

I suppose I would owe at least that to you guys... along with the $12 fee! I haven't even picked up my Venture yet (4/5 is the date unless it warms up sooner) and this board has helped me a ton!
-
Thanks! & Ordered! $19 for the holder and $7 for the ball mount for the back of the holder. I already have an arm and u-bolt mount
-
Yeah... its an iPhone, so the power is in the middle bottom and the audio plug is on the left bottom, about halfway between the corner and the power port. I cut the holder I use in my car (different brand - junk actually) and it's fine. This will be even better. Thanks

If you go to the Ram mount page, scroll to the bottom and you will see their suggestions. I'm new to this system too, but with a little bit of research you can find something that will suit your needs. Check these out: http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045050051056085/Default.aspx http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045050048049085/Default.aspx http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045072079076045085078052085/Default.aspx I'm doing some shopping on Amazon... just sayin'

I agree, hmmmm.... you might be changing my mind, but I'm pretty sure that bottom piece would block the audio out plug that I would use to go to the aux. input on the state of the art cassette deck. Maybe I can cut it a bit..... Thanks for the input.... back to the drawing board!

I wrote to Ram today... let's see what they say. Probably ordering anyway. Thanks

Hi all, Has anyone used the Ram Mount X-Grip? I had one ordered and then found a few reviews that said it rotated pretty freely around the axis where the arms attached - not at the ball itself. Cancelled my order... but it's what I want... Soooo. any opinions? or were the reviewers mistaken? bad installs etc... http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Universal-X-Grip-Holder-1-Inch/product-reviews/B0055PH0XA/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1 TIA

Thanks to all again. Made my decision, made my purchases.! Went with the regular handlebar u-bolt mount, a 3" arm and the X-Grip.

Hi, Not meaning to reopen an old thread, or drive it off topic, but I guess I'm risking both First is to just say thank you. This thread helped me out a ton, and left me with one more question; Has anyone ever used the Ram-mount reservoir covers as an attachment point? Comments? Secondly, in the second post Skid had a picture showing a faceplate on his controller that matches the dash color. Any idea where to get one of those? Thanks as always

Both of my sons went through Great Lakes. I know exactly how you feel, and yet I'll bet you couldn't be any more proud. Our oldest went through the nuclear electrician "A" school, then nuclear power school - both in Charleston, SC before going through the prototype program in Ballston Spa NY. He served 4 years on the Enterprise (insert joke here!), and is now a nuclear reactor operator at Yankee Nuclear in VT. Our middle son has just finished nuclear mechanic "A" school and is awaiting the start of his power school in Charleston. I was sad when they left, but just like your son they went in with a plan, and I think that makes a world of difference. Please pass on my thanks to your son for his service, and be sure to make plans to get to that graduation ceremony! Very cool... bring tissues!

Thanks all for the replies so far! I really appreciate it! i dont mind doing some research, but I love the head starts! Thanks again....

We have a new horse in the barn... an '06 RSV; pretty happy. Thanks to all who passed on advice and opinions over the past two weeks or so. I have a few basic questions. The first is purly opinion but I want to ask. We were offered a tire and wheel warranty for five years @ $499. In your opinion is something like this worth it. Apparently it covers damage to tires and wheels, and even flats. Also has road service for the flats. What are some opinions? After looking over the bike again today, we found the front comm port. The previous owner had relocated it off the tank... but I couldn't find the rear comm port. At the riders left is a push to talk button, and a volume control (I think thats what they are), so where would the port be? The front port was open... shouldn't there be a rubber baby buggy bumper plugging it against dirt etc? So, I'm understanding that the radio and cassette and the aux input will play over the speakers or headset (is that correct, or just speakers?), what about the CB? Does that play over speakers or headset only? We have full face helmets, can anyone recommend what we should get for comms / CB headsets? I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking for or even where to look. I guess if I go bluetooth I can then answer my phone too, but for starters, lets say I'm not interested in that. Basic comms and CB... what do I need? Where do I look and get stuff? TIA - appreciate it!

Thanks for the replies.... Well if this goes the way I want it to this tank is debadged... It'll probably stay that way seeing those prices!!
