  1. Must have cause it seems to have gone away with the help of a little foil tape on the exhaust header for thickness and a minor adaptation on the clamp which allowed me to tighten it a little more.
  2. And we're waisting time with such foolishness when there are others like me with real problems.
  3. I said 3 & 4 because it seems to be backfiring from the right side (as your sitting on it) exhaust. That is also the side there is a possiblity of a loose exhaust pipe connection where the muffler connects with the exhaust header.
  4. OK The brakes are blead and now feel fine. I just took the second test ride and it is now back firing just a little bit on the # 3 and 4 cylinders when de- accelerating any hints on this new problem?
  5. So sorry for your loss and I am praying for strength and comfort for you and your family as you grieve for your loved one.
  6. any other helpful hints on getting the the brakes blead
  7. I took my first test ride today after doing this years round of repairs, up grades and modifications. New Dunlop E-3's front and back thanks to Two brothers Motorcycle tires in Lawrenceville Ga. New Starter clutch Thanks to Dano New programable TCI Thanks to Dingy New HO Stator from Rick at Buckeye Performance Getting it cranked due to the suggestion from 09RSTD to turn the petcock on. The bike runs good but the brakes are a little spongee and un responsive. I forgot how much of a PITA bleeding the brakes are. The front brake fluid resevoir screws stripped, had to drill out, trip to Lowe's for 2 4mm x .7 beveled head screws. Going back out there for some more pump, pump, bleed, pump, pump, bleed, pump, pump, bleed, fill, fill, pump, pump, bleed, pump, pump, ble................................................Arrrrrg again
  8. I can do Georga immediately where is the Baton?
  9. Here are some pictures of the factory built unit that is on my bike now and the home made one I had before. The hand made one worked fine I just ended up with the other one and decided to install it. The hand made one is available if anyone wants it.
  10. I love that line in the Billy Bob Thorton movie "Sling Blade" when his more mentally astute friends are trying to figure out what's wrong with the rotary tiller. His retarded but correct answer. "It aint got no gas"
  11. I quess I deserved that. It could have happened to you too Lewis.
  12. Thats why I love you guys and this site. It never hurts to get a second opinion. I knew it was full of fresh gas, I just forgot to turn the petcock on. Started right up. I feel like such a rookie dumb A**. Thanks for the help. Dingy the TCI is apparently good to go.
  13. I may be able to help you if you don't mind bringing it to the spagetti Junction area.
  14. I got a guy down here in Atlanta that is good with that sort of thing. Setting up jigs for mass production of custom parts and assemblies. If you want to work on your retirement.
  15. So with the new HO Stator, starter clutch, and programmable TCI installed I can't get the bike cranked. After 3 cans of starter fluid the bike will fire only as long as the starter fluid is present but then chokes out. The fuel pumps seems to click for long time every time I turn the key on. And the battery drains down to nothing quickly and I've had it on the charger all day. When the charger indicates charged it has 13.5 volts but doesn't last long. The bikes been sitting for about a year. I'm thinking I'll probably have to pull the carbs and go through them again. But, I thought I'd get some more opinions before I did that.
  16. Got the taps from McMaster Carr. Ordered Monday showed up on Tuesday (Great Service). The tap seemed to work fine and bolt threaded no problem. What is the Ft/Lb spec for the flywheel bolt?
  17. Nice hearing from you George. Just put the Dingy progammable TCI on, Dano Starter Clutch Mod on, New Dunlops front & back and am about to pull the trigger on the HO Stator and R/R tomorrow. But the old 87 is still hanging in there.
  18. Yea....bump..... I'd like to know too
  19. How do you say it Dea Ja Veau? Is that how you spell it? Your story sounds exactly like mine when I found this sight. I was ready to part mine out on E-bay until I ended up here. Hey George S how many years has it been now? Was the shop that worked on it Rockdale Cycles outside of Atlanta by chance? $1,400 is what they stuck me for also. Since then my 87VR has been reworked several times and every repair, upgrade and modification that has been thought of has been done to her. Thanks to the great folks and help received on this site. Hang in there Grasshopper. Wax on Wax Off... Wax on, wax off....Wax on, Wax off.....
  20. Two words.........Gorilla Glue
  21. I didn't think of that, But how many terrorist ride motorcycles? On second thought, never mind I know more than a few.
  22. Hey you work was fine, I was the dummy. I'm just hoping I can recover for the cost of a tap.
  23. Thanks Gary but my bolt and oil rod are ok it's the starter threads on the inside of the shaft I buggered up. And thanks for the offer to loan tap but I just placed an order to McMaster Carr should be shipped this morning.
