Brian, To be honest with you all advertising bugs me. We are constantly bombarded by advertising from all directions 24/7/365. Even though sight polution advertising and noise polution advertising bug me I can still tune them out and ignore them for the most part. It's the In Your Face advertisers that you can't ignore are the ones I believe should be outlawed. The forms of advertising I hate the most are, in order of degree of offensiveness to me: TV Commercials, In any given hour on any channel there are 4o minutes of advertising and 20 minutes of programming. How did we allow this to happen. I am appalled that they forced us into to paying for tv by making us pay the cable and satelite fees or no TV. But, then to contnue to add insult to injury by making us endure 40 minutes of advertising every hour. If I were ever elected President of the United States the first thing I would do is outlaw Advertising on TV. Telemarketing by phone and text. I know all about registering on the No-Call list But, I have religiously registered on the No Call list and have never seen any appreciable reduction in nusance telemarketing calls. Spam Half the time I spend checking my personal email is spent eliminated unsolicited Spam. Just an aggrivating waste of my time I'm forced into dealing with. The little ads on the left of the page, in them scheme of things don't hardly bother me at all. Most of the time I just ignore them. I thought I would just speak up in this case because I do know what kind of crooks this particular company is and felt compelled to warn others on this site that might have seen the same ad. And I quess voice my opinion. Excuse the Rant.

I've probably done it at least a hundred times. I always go down it from the north then turn around and go back across it the other way. Seems about the same to me.

Hey Don, I just noticed an ad that appearred on the web site below the list of friends in the left hand column on the website. My question is: How are these ads generated? Are they approved by the website or do they appear automatically because of related content on the internet? The reason I ask is because the ad that drew my attention was titled Conyers Area Bike Dealer and was an ad for a business that I am familiar with and have had dealings with Rockdale Cycles and Racing. All Bad. I have posted on this site before about this business in detail and about the $1,400 rip off nightmare I had with them on my 87VR when I first owned my bike. This experience was before I found this site. I will say that the only good thing that resulted from that experience with Rockdale Cycles was that it set up a set of circumstances that eventually led me to discover this site, the best thing that has happened to me since acquiring my 87VR. Since joining this site and the resulting knowledge and help obtained on the 1st Gens from the knowledgable members of the VentureRiders.org, and because of that bad experience with Rockdale Cycles I have adopted a policy that no one works on my bike except me and trusted VR.org friends. In retrospect I know that had it not been for VR.org I would not have been able to afford to keep, ride, work on and maintain my 87VR. There is no way I could have afforded to pay a shop much less pay for Yamaha OEM parts for all of the work that I (with some help from others on this site) have done to my bike over the past ten years. Being able to work on the bike due to all of the helpful knowledge obtained from the members of this site. I say all of that to say this: The $12.00 per year membership dues is the best investment I have ever made in my 87VR. You can trust the advice, knowledge, experience and people involved with this site. If you too, saw the ad and were considering doing business with Rockdale Cycles, don't you will probably end up regretting it. They call them stealers instead of dealers for a reason. But, I quess I'm preaching to the choir. Suggestion for new forum: "What Not to do, things, places and people to avoid"

I have a 1900 vintage Thomas Edison crank Phonegraph in cabinet with all of the original records. What is that worth to you?

I am pro helmet since I have had several crashes where the helmet probably saved my life. However, I do understand the pleasure of riding without a helmet as I did for a good part of my Sturgis 2008 trip out west. But, most of all I just don't want to end up like Gary Bussey.

Ray, Thanks for the info, I'll check out what you suggested. Based on the info received so far I'm going to check out local CDL programs. I'm weighing out local and regional driving options. I'm thinking by the hour may be a more secure route than pennies a mile. The school thing in Indianapolis is saying 17 1/2 cents per mile which doesn't sound like a lot especially if you have to struggle up the ladder for decent trips/loads.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks Angel, I appreciate that. I'll keep in touch as things progress. If they do. Bob

Thanks Angel, Your right and I get it. I was actually relieved when they dropped the ax on Tuesday because I know I was days away from quiting. I knew that I didn't want to work for any heartless corporation in that environment of taking care of the elderly. If I couldn't come to work and do my job in a spirit of loving care I didn't want to be there. At least since it happened the way it did I can draw unemployment as a buffer before I start making money again. At this stage of life doing the right things for the right reasons is what is important to me. That is also why I love the people on this site. Since I have been involved here over the past eight or so years I have not had a bad experience yet with anyone I have met through the VentureRiders. As far as the change in life style this is a good time for me to make this move. My sons are grown my oldest is a local truck driver. I'm not married and my female room mate who has lived with me for the past 15 years is used to my bachelor sensibilities and wanderlust nature and is content on keeping the home fires burning. In fact I couldn't blow her out of here with a terrorist attack. If I make this move it looks like I will be riding the bike up to Indianapolis and will be up there for three weeks with Sundays off. It would be great to hook up if at all possible even if it was for just a short time. Good luck on your search and journey. Bob

Mike, I sincerely appreciate your insight. I have considered the points you mentioned and do value any of your and others input on the pit falls of taking this step. I have been talking to two different companys C.R. England and P.A.M. I'm leaning toward PAM They claim a 1 year committment to recoup the training tuition which they finance over that period of time with a $1,200 sign on bonus. The Training is provided by C1 Truck training in Indianapolis which is geographically closer than Salt Lake city. And they say they will gaurentee a job with a Georgia based company. As far as the burden on the family, I'm not married but live with a roomate and my grown son who are used to me being gone for extended periods of time. So, Im not concerned about that factor. If you could give me some heads up on what company's, deals or pit falls to avoid that would certainly be very helpful and appreciated. Bob

Well today I went to correct the address on my drivers license and while there pulled a 7 year driver record which is 100% blemish free. I'm not worried about the drug screening because my body is pure except for an occassional scotch and water or gin and tonic every once and a while. And if they want to get some hair they will find it hard to get some from me. The Cdl course I've been looking at includes the hazmat training. I'm running out of reasons not to do it. I would be riding my bike to Indianpolis while there for three weeks. So, it's starting to feel like another bike road trip adventure at least for the time I'm up there.

As of July 1st a company from Kansas, Bickford Senior Living stepped in and took over the management of the Assisted living Community I worked at. To say the transition was a hostal one would be an understatement. Ruthless greed motivated corporate rat B@$tards would be more accurate. They literally threw all of the existing employees and a good many of what they felt were undesirable residents to the street. Including me. So, now I'm considering a career change. I'm thinking about going to Indianapolis and going through CDL training to become an OTR Big rig driver. I've always enjoyed my travel adventures on the road and think I might enjoy seeing the country through the windsheild of a big rig for a while.

I had the same problem. Whenever I would close the door it would stay closed for about 10 seconds and then would slowy open, no matter how you tried to close it. I gave up and lived with the open door. That bothered me when it rained. Weeks later i tried to close it again and it stayed closed.... I don't know why.
