  1. I know you've ridden across the Great Plains and prairie that covers a good part of our country. Who do you think cuts all that grass?
  2. Get all that Honey do crap off the list and head south to Ala_Dam_Bame for the International. That can be that far for an old Iron Butt hippy like you.
  3. I've followed that Chisholm trail, as well as the Bozeman Trail, the Santa Fe Trail, Pioneer trail and many others. But, I don't have to tell you about Long distance motorcycle adventures On the subject of stumbling off the road and finding markers. There is a place in North Georgia called Talking Rock not too far from Vogel. On one of the thousands of trips up that way we stopped to check it out. It was just about 50' off the road. Several huge boulders with ancient markings on them. The adjoining plague said 10,000 years old. Now with that said, No way Christopher Columbus or the Vikings discovered North America. No bugs to speak of though. Leaving the Taos canyon in New Mexico I left the road to visit nature and discovered a dead body, (Skeleton) floating in a creek pool. On worst bugs encountered: Mosquitoes in Alaska was the worst by far. They are so bad that many of the locals call them the State Bird. I have a picture somewhere of me riding a mosquito with a twelve foot wing span, a six foot fuselage and a 4 foot stinger. Although it is hard to tell in the snapshot that it was made out of wood. Someone carved that monument for a reason. Then there are those pesky NO-SEE-UMS down in Florida that are so bad they will make you want to jump in alligator and snake infested water just to get away from them. Let's not forget the black flies up in, Where was it? I'm thinking the Boulder fields on the Appalachian trail up around West Virginia. If my memory serves me correctly. Right now I'm dealing with a flea infestation around the yard that has caused me to leave the squirrels alone and shift my attention to the fleas.
  4. You could try Goats, or sheep , a cow or maybe a horse.
  5. Hey Don, How hard would it be to add a automatic draft saver on to the word processing software as you write a post or personal message. I know you can save, or can you as you write. But, I find it helpfully when the computer does it for you. I can't remember how many times I have spent hours crafting the perfect post or message to bump the wrong thing and it disappears into cyber-space. Like it just now happened as I was writing a long message to Puc. When that happens it is every thing I can do to avoid putting a bullet through the monitor or shooting off an angry PM to you demanding a refund of my $12.00. I really don't want to do that. Mostly I just say screw it and move on without having said what I wanted to say. In fact I have started thinking of it as God being my editor and have to trust that karma didn't want me putting that out in the universe. Just saying.
  6. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, The cruise control never worked anyway. I wonder what else it would take?
  7. All of that is well and good and I appreciate you sharing the details of your riding adventure immensely but, I have just a few comments. You ain't seen a juice filled bug battle until you do The Iowa corn fields at night. Those grasshoppers are about the size and shape of a Stinger missile as they zoom toward you in your headlight beam. And the last picture of you and Tippy in front of the Texas sign, That's not an arrow sticking out of Tippy's back is it?
  8. This picture makes me wonder, in this version what did they do with the air filters and all the other crap that they hid behind the lower fairings. I like this look much better than the MM lower fairing look. Is there a mod to revert the RSTD back to this look by removing the lower fairings?
  9. My advice is don't believe everything you read... especially in shop manuals.
  10. Yes you have, and yes there is...... on the other side of the bike.
  11. I've stood in front of that sign before and probably have the same photo in my Pic directory somewhere.
  12. You must be home now, Your post are easier to read with less misspelled words. Really enjoyed reading your tablet post even though occasionally I would have to do so ciphering to figure it out.
  13. I know what you mean even though I never shoveled any of that stuff. I have shoveled the green stuff and the brown stuff and the red stuff but never the white stuff. I always just wait a few minutes until it melts.
  14. I don't know for sure but believe it came of an Indian Chief could be from the 4o's into the 50's. I also think it may fit some early Vintage Harleys.
  15. Hey Dan, This may explain what I've been wondering about you.
  16. Come on somebody help a brother out now All I need is a hint and maybe a link or two.
  17. Good post and good story. Ain't it great running into good bikers wherever they are from. I hope you and Tippy are planning to make it down to Alabama for the International. I really would like to hear about the adventurers you haven't posted. Nice find in the Velvet Antlers. You have a plan for them? Keep them cards and letters coming. Glad to see ya'll are still healthy and happy.
  18. Evidently I'm not compatible with Ebay anymore since Pal Pal shut me down for collecting Charity fund raising raffle tickets on paypal. I have this Vintage original motorcycle seat I'd like to get on a national auction sight to targets Vintage motorcycle parts. Question is: What good auction sights are there other than Ebay that specialize in Vintage motorcycle parts? I've listed it on Craig's list locally but I'd like to get this out to a wide a market as possible.
  19. Hey Brian, I believe you but it's more fun telling my version. You know at this stage of life I plead CRS. Who could blame me?
  20. I've got this vintage original seat I'm going to list on ebay. Not wanting to misrepresent any thing I believe this seat comes off a early 1940's circa Indian. I'm not sure which models and was told this same style seat was used on some Harleys of the same vintage. Do any of you Vintage motorcycle experts have any more specific information on this seat and what do you think a reasonable value would be for this restoration part?
  21. F And next time you make it out this way...you might want to check out the new Palo Duro Zipline! Funny I remember it as more than a few inches. Hindsight recalls a couple of feet. But the zip line does look like a reason to come back out and visit Maybe soon
  22. Yep they're mighty proud of their gas out west in the summertime. In ATL $3.63
  23. Reminds me of our trip through the Palo Dura canyon. Did I spell that right? If you recall my first gen made it across that river alright. You may be convincing me that a Ural is the way to go on my next bike purchase.
