  1. Interesting, Where is it "starter cut off relay/ fuel pump relay" located on the bike? The fuel pump is clicking when key is on. I noticed that when key is on, pushing the start button: 1. radio cuts off 2. lights dim 3. fuel level indicator flashes on and off 4. oil level indicator comes on 5. temp light comes on
  2. Wow Heather, I'm extremely impressed with your response. I believe it will be very helpful in finding that pesky electron gremlin plaguing my current existence. By the way I sent ya a friend request.
  3. Thanks Bobby, I jumping the two larger red wires on the solenoid and it immediately cranks and runs.
  4. OK Guys, here's where I'm at: Downloaded the Dingy's electrical schematics and electrical circuit info from the 2nd gen tech library. I'm focusing on Page 8-23, Electric starting system and began systematically trying to rule out what the problem aint. So far I know: 1. the battery is good 2 the starter is good, when I jump across the two large red wires on the starter relay it cranks right up. 3. the main fuse is good (30 amp) 4. the ignition fuse is good (10 amp) 5. The engine stop switch is good and in the run position (yes I'm sure) 6. The start button switch is good. 8. The bike is in neutral, the neutral light indicator is on but I have not found and ohmn'd out the neutral switch 9. the clutch lever is out What I'm not sure of: 1. The starting circuit cut off relay, where is it and how do I check it? 2. the diode 3. If the starter relay is good or not. With the wiring plug unplugged I would think I should have continuity between the small Blue wire and the small red/white tracer wire if the start circuit is made....... I don't. I've worn my fingers out scratching my head and hoped some , all or one of ya'll might see what I was missing and could point me in the right direction.
  5. When I say hot, I don't mean the battery is temp hot. I mean it is fully charged at 12.63 volts. I just jumped across battery positive cable to other side of small box mounted on the main fuse holder, ( I'm assuming that is the starter relay) and it fired right up. Does that tell me that the starter is good and the relay is bad? Could there still be a problem in the start circuit interlocks keeping the relay from working?
  6. Bike had been turning over and starting. It died out when cold and when trying to restart the starter just quit, suddenly. The kick stand switch seems to be working right. I'm heading to the starter relay to see if I can jump it out to determine if it is starter or relay.
  7. Bike had been sitting but cranked and ran on stand after I went through Carbs. It quit leaving the driveway on first test run after carbs were remounted. Battery is about a year old but is hot.
  8. It had been working fine. Then for no apparent reason when I push the start button, the lights dim the radio volume go's down but no starter. The fuses are good. It's not the start button switch. Before I start tearing the thing apart again does anyone have any hints?
  9. Been welding lately?
  10. I often have considered as much but have been perplexed as to what to title such a literary endeavor. Should it be: Lord of the O rings Taming of the screw Oliver's twisted throttle Tale of two Ventures On a midsummer's night scream
  11. I can't seem to be able to find him in the member list. Is that his user name?
  12. Puc Meister It does warm the cockles of my heart to know you once again survived the northern snow blower freeze of the northern territories. Pray tell what front wheel following adventures are on your horizon. Any planned for the sunny south of Georgia?
  13. Master George, My old friend George S.......My multi meter samurai master......Your humble Grasshopper has been thinking about you lately. Remembering the ancient wisdom you instilled in me so many years ago. The wisdom of how to slay those pesky electron demons. Since last we spoke my travels have been many. Many demons have been defeated with the lessons I had learned from you. But alias an old foe has resurfaced. Carbon build up on the start switch button. Truth be told my adventures have taken me in different endeavors unrelated to the ones shared by this family of noble riders. Not to say that the rites of Spring do not bring me back to dreams of yesterday. But to follow those dreams the beast has got to crank. Thus the need for new switches.
  14. 2nd gen right handle bar switch assembly...............$waytoomuch:mo money:........................... On the first gens you could take them apart and service the switches if need be. Apparently not with the 2nd gens. Those crafty Yamanese (R@T B@$T@*DS) engineers figured out how to make them very user unfriendly so a DIYfer would be at their mercy. To make a long story short...... I need one.. Anyone parting out a 2nd gen and happen to have one laying around on their work bench they wouldn't mind selling? Send me a message if so.
  15. This was sitting outside the window of my office yesterday.
  16. On the list of, Things that make you go Hmmmmm? Now revealed.
  17. Well I got the midnight put back together at about 10:30 last night. It sounds good in the garage. I'll take her for a short test ride this morning and if all goes well I'll drop by the house just long enough to load her up and head to Vogel. I might even beat Lewis there and get a free t' shirt.
  18. Never mind I figured that out. On of the wires on one of the TCI plugs had pulled loose from the back of the plug. Now I ahave another problem apparently the starter gears locked up somehow.
  19. Never mind, I think I got the non clicking fuel pump figured out. After taking the TCI back out one of the wires on one of the TCI plugs had pulled out of the back of the plug (Black with grey stripe). Got that put back together and plugged back on the TCI and when I turn the key the fuel pump is clicking now. so, now the battery is low and won't turn the bike over so battery is on the charger now.
  20. I got everything put back together and set the tank back on. Turn the key and hit the starter turns over but wont fire. I'm not hearing the clicking of the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel line. I'm like WTF why isn't the fuel pump clicking? Where is the fuel pump fuse?
