Hey Puc, I was digging on everything you said until you got to the tape deck part. The tape deck needs to be extinct on the planet and replaced with modern camera, smart phone blue tooth, satellite radio mps and internet capabilities ,gps navigation technology. -
So, it's the journey you seek. I think we all get that being in the brotherhood of bikedom. I too, as many others have taken the 1st gen pilgrimage you are about to embark on. And haven done so, are proud to offer our advice and wisdom and insite to aid you in the mission you are anxious to undertake. As for my earlier point of view, for myself,at this stage of life, I find that once a Dragon has been slain there is no need to slay it again. But, to you I say have at it and God's speed. P.S. it's good you have all 8 fingers and both thumbs, you are gonna need them. :-)

LoL at the visual. Not kidding pm me a shipping address and I'll send her the pink t. Maybe that'll make her feel better.

Are you sure his van by the river actually has an address.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Losing a good vehicle does feel like having to put your dog down.

Wow, you certainly have a long road ahead of you. Which makes me wonder is it the destination or the journey you seek. Meaning is the project itself your motivation. If so, I get that. If the end result is your motivation, I'm wondering why not just buy one in good shape. You will spend far, far less without all the work. The cost of the plastic body parts alone would make the project economically unfeasible to take it back to factory showroom condition as you described. If I was given that free bike, and it were me, I would build a cool one off custom with the rolling frame and mechanical and not go back to the original touring bike concept. That's just me. Regardless good luck and I'm looking forward to following your build project.

A few years back I replaced the engine on my 87 rather then do valve adjustment. I found a low mileage engine on eBay with shipping I spent $300. At the time the replacement seemed easier than the fix. I may have had some other things going on with the old.engine. The engine swap out wasn't bad. As I recall the hardest part was aligning the final drive.

Cable upgrade
Dragonslayer replied to Big Auggie's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I always found it helpful to pack the back side if the quick connection plugs with liquid rubber to seal them from dirt and moisture penetration. Doing that seemed to eliminate the bad connection problems you get with 12 volt system quick connection plugs. -

Wellllll........ since you asked........ On my first gen, that 3 (white) wire connector you refer to was problematic as you know, due to it's dirty location and current load. They tended to develop bad connection, high resistance then overheat and melt. At one point I cut it out altogether and hard wired soldering that connection. Solved that problem but made it less convenient to remove the stator when necessary. If your looking at redesigning that connector it should be sealed to prevent dirt and moisture penetration and have a high resistance rating so it won't melt. The other problem with the stator rubber grommet wire seals is that after a while or due to removal and reinstall they tended to leak. Which caused an irritating, and sometimes embarrassing oil puddle under the kickstand. This could be fixed with a little liquid rubber applied inside the holes the wires penetrated and a lite coat around the edge when reinstalling. Another troublesome connection on the 1st gens was the ignition module,(black box)(tgi) connections. The factory location of the module (under the coils, above the engine) was a bad design. Due to the location they tended to heat up and draw moisture when cooling down, especially in humid climates. The mod fix was to relocate the module on top of the air box where it would stay cooler. As I recall, the trick was if your wiring harness connections were long enough to allow you to move it. Some were, some weren't. A harness extension kit for these connections might be a good idea. -
Ta..dah. ting

It's been my experience that engineers seldom knew how tools worked. They could draw something but couldn't build it.

I'm afraid it won't be that long for me. In fact when we entered the park I wanted to rent one but my family weren't going for it.

I must be the biggest techno dummy in the World. I found the menu at top right see settings option then where is left menu General settings I can not find it . The settings option takes me to Google settings that does not have a general settings option.

Again my problems are when I'm using my phone not the computer. How do you move an uploaded picture to the lower portion of the screen to insert it the post. I liked the picture upload feature on the old site format a lot better then this one.
-
Using the manage attachments option I can upload pictures from my camera on the phone. My problem is that no matter how hard I try the screen will not allow me to drag the photos to the bottom area to insert them in the post.

Boss you have that right and I'm sure most of us agree.

I always thought this site was more about the family of people and not about the machines. What happened to "We don't care what you ride"? I own a convertible and find it a lot more comfortably on trips then riding the venture. I would love to see a forum on "Topless cagers"
-
Is it just me or does anyone else find the picture upload feature user unfriendly? Using my phone I'm finding it next to impossible to upload a photo. I've been trying for three days to upload a photo onto a New thread. I GIVE UP.

I'll be going that way tomorrow to Pigeon forge. Won't be on the scoot but sure hope it ain't raining cause I'll have the top down.

I feel bad about keeping the pink t shirt. You think she might like it if I gave it to her now?
