I'm trying to get a non running 84VR from PA to GA. What I really would like to do is ride my 87 VR :7_6_3[1]:up there via Blue Ridge Pkwy/Skyline Drive towing a trailer that I can load 84 VR on and tow back via interstate. Is it possible to come up with some trailer configuration considering weight/load distribution to safely tow one VR with another one? Does anyone have any experience doing this, is it possible. Does anyone have any advice? __________________

Once again saved by the experience of the experts. Had not thought of suppressing and retaining the plunger. I'll give it a try. I found a pair of lock ring pliers at sears that comes with interchageble tips. But, none of the tip sets are long enough so I was planning to make a longer set out of two matching allen wrenches and filling points on the end. But, you said you notched your pliers, can you post a pic showing the shape of the notch on the plier tips?

Yea you ought to, Condor. Or better yet since i'm about to do this on project bike when new slave shows up maybe I'll use your method, take pics and post. However, I'm still wrestling with getting the c clip out of the master to rebuild the master.:bang head:

Looking for some help getting a bike from Pa to Ga
Dragonslayer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Sorry, I forgot to mention the bike has been sitting foir a while and is not running and will need to be towed. Thanks anyway Guindalf -
On an earlier thread I posted that I had bought an 84 VR off Ebay from a fellow member. Now I'm weighing options on how to get the bike from Central PA to Atl, Ga. And I was wondering if any members from that area were planning a trip south by cage and would consider picking the bike up and towing it south. Of course I would offset thier travel expenses by paying them for thier time and trouble. I would also be glad to meet them down south closer to Atlanta if they were not planning to come to or through Atlanta. Any takers?

Oh, that makes sense. I guess that also explains why on my 87 all carbs were equally dirty since that bike has a lean stand on both sides.. When you say banana:banana:/ :cool10:twinkies are you referring to that bent rubber tube that goes from the crankcase through the carb bank to the air box that is a royall pain in the *** to hook up when reinstalling the carbs? Yea I guess an old dog :backinmyday:can learn new tricks after all. The problem is that to fit new stuff into my head I have to discard some old stuff. And kinda like my shop I hate to get rid of anything because I know as soon as I do I'll end up needing it.

I cleaned up the slave cylinder as good as I could before I realized that the piston walls were pitted up to bad to be usable so I guess I need to get a new one. Anyone want to buy a brand new rebuild kit. Do you have a link to the vendor that had the new part for $64.00 local Yamaha dealer wants $80.00

Dan, Just curious what you meant because I noticed that the carbs on the left side were a lot dirtier and greaserir than the carbs on the other side and I'm not sure why.

Yea Condor I caught the link on Speed Bleeders, Thanks alot, They look like the bomb. I'm gonna order me some of dem. No, the other reference was about ultrasonic cleaners. which may be more bucks than i want to shell out for this project at this time. Guess I just try to soak carbs and cleaning manually.

What good is that if every time you use the clutch it spitts brake fluid all over your engine?

OUCH, Todd I'm glad your not hurt. I hate it when scrapes likes yours, I get in. When the reality of physics and pavement mixes in. Then there's that guy called gravity. who beats my ass with regularity. For God's sake put the gremlin bell back on. New name "CloseCall" -
Good Idea :thumbsup2:I used to have one that I cleaned jewelry in before it overreved and fried itself. It did a great job on jewelry but, the little tub was way to small to soak a carb body in. I wonder where you would find one with a bigger basin?

Looks cool :cool10:but, :icon_smile_questionwhat keeps the little ball valve from opening when you depress lever an spitting fluid out?

Yea I got one, if you mean the chrome bumper on the 86 and up Venture Royale. I was planning to put it on E-bay

I am Experiencing Site Slowdowns and Lock-ups
Dragonslayer replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
Me too, I've been having more frequent slow downs and lock ups . Tonight it took me about 45 minutes to get on the site good before it would work. At one point I got a memory error message. -
I cracked open the carbs today and the only thing I can say is that there is Good News and bad news. The good news is the diaphrams seem to be in good shape with no apparent pin holes. The bad news is the interior of the carbs are completely corroded with oxidation, varnish and signs of rusty looking water. :bang head::bang head: I started soaking the carb bodies by submerging them in seafoam. Does anyone have any better suggestions for cleaning totally gunked up carbs?
