  1. I need one too! Figure I need all the help I can get.
  2. Ever since I've had my bike carb sync has been an on going problem. Early in my ownership I paid a shop $1,400 to rebuild, tune, and sync my carbs and they actually screwed them up worse than they were before. I've replaced my carbs, rebuilt my carbs, replaced my motor, installed new diaphrams and have never been able to get the carbs exactly synced untill this past week. I got them close enough for it to run pretty good by tunning by ear, trying to measure screw-in length on adjustment screws. But, last week during the West Virginia Skid-In M & E, Squidley put some Morgan Mercury gauges on the bike and I could see for the first time exactly what the carbs were doing. 1, 2 & 4 were semi close but #3 wasn't even in the ball park. In just a matter of minutes Squidley made some adjustments and I could see on the gauges how all four carbs came in sync. As soon as we got finished with the sync we all saddled up for and all day group ride. I could immediatly tell the difference in power, speed and performance. The sync increased mpg by at least 10 mpg's From that point I rode 1500 miles through West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and back to Georgia. MyMileage averaged between 39.5 and 41.5 mpg which is better than it's ever done. Find a way to get the carb sync. There are multiple articles on carb sync proceedure and tools in the tech tip library. It does make a big difference.
  3. Don't try the Yamaha dealer in Gettysburg. I stopped in there on my ride to Ga from PA to get some brake pads. Sizing me up as a tourist he tried to charge me $50.00 for one set. I passed and rode on. Auto zone sells them for about $17.00 per set.
  4. I'm in, The only thing I love more than riding my VR is being on stage playing the blues harp. Sometimes I ride my bike and play the harp to myself.
  5. I dilengently stayed up late last night packing and getting ready for the trip. Was up at six to start the list of errands that had to be done before we could leave. My oldest son showed up right on time to drop off his trailer that we are using. However, he failed to mention that the trailer had wiring, wheel bearing, and coupler issues requiring four hours of trailer maintenance time to make it road worthy. Sooooo... we got a late start before we hit I285 ready to go. Then Boom.......bumper to bumper traffic. Once again off like a heard of........................................ Turtles Arrrrrgggggg Finally traffic started rolling on 85 somewhere near SC/GA line. But, we did make it, Skid-IN into Microtel somewhere around 12:30AM. Now I'm so excited about riding tomorrow I cant get to sleep. But I'll be ready bright and early. I just hope I don't get a sinking spell early in the day. And it don't rain. __________________
  6. If your talking 83-85 XVZ1200 and 87 XVZ1300 they will be jetted differently.
  7. Just so happens that I'm picking up an 84 parts bike in Williamsport,PA on Monday I was planning to part out on Ebay. It has all the unbroken plastic intack. The saddlebags and trunk probably won't do you much good but all the front fairing will fit the 87. I don't have to be back in Ga until Friday. If your interested and we can hook up in PA early in the week Your welcome to first shot at whatever parts you can use or want and I'll be glad to help you with your bike for as long as I can stay available. I'm at the Skid-in in WV through Sunday then PA on monday. My cell phone number is on my profile if you want to get in touch. Insurance companies have totaled and paid me off on my 87 four times. Wrote me a full value check and let me keep the bike. I just keep fixing the plastic, repainting it and keep riding it.
  8. The final plan ended up that my roommate and I are driving her Chevy Cavelier towing 8' x 12' trailer with the Dragonslayer Bike tied down to Pa via Sklid-in in WV and MeanDog's Memorial in WV. Picking up Ebay bike in PA on Monday and taking the scenic route back. Chris don't know it yet but I think I'll let her drive the cage, trailer and ebay bike back via interstate and I think I'll ride the Dragonslayer back via the Skyline Drive/Blueridge parkway route. Lucky me.
  9. Just for your info, Larry (way2muchfun4u2) the starter of this thread had a wreck on his bike totalling it out. I bought a 84 VR from him off ebay for a parts bike. But, according to his wife/girlfriend he's had some serious injuries and is not riding at this time.
  10. How much did the bike on the trailer weigh? How did it handle towing it?
  11. Did I do that??????? my bad???????????
  12. Yea, that too. Great information from very knowledgeable sources in these threads. But sometimes I can't help but wonder if I over post. If I'm not riding I'm thinking about riding and to keep from talking too much I write to much.
  13. General Concensus of opinion believes I would be crazy to attempt such a feat of madness. I quess I knew the answer to this all along and I'm not going to attempt to do it. I just thought it would be neat if I could do this trip that way. Time to consider other options. Thanks for the input. __________________

  15. I have been told I can be somewhat infectous.
  16. My bike trailer is the same one as yours, reckon it would carry a VR?

I may not attempt it on this trip but I believe my next venture idea has been hatched. Just think of the possibilities. 20. Thought about that and that might still be an option. Considering the cost of gas I was trying to maximize ride time and minimize travel expenses. Box truck from Pa to Ga one way is about $600.00 plus fuel at $4.00 plus per gallon with truck mpg what 6 to 10 mpg.
  21. Just occurred to me that this thread hasn't heard from original poster in a while. whozleft asked a simple question that was answered in the first reply. And the rest of us have been going on for days with our own articulate dissertations :rant:on the intricate details and nuances for the hydralic actuated clutch engagement system. While I find all the aforementioned disserations highly informative, helpful and entertaining:detective: I can't help but imagine what Whozleft must be thinking if he is even still monitoring the thread. As a writer I know I'm as guilty as anyone :whistling:of going on and on and struggle with my wordyness ( :icon_smile_questionis that a word?) every time I write. My only defense is just that because I'm a writer I love to watch myself talk.
  22. thanks Condor, big help
  23. Not really, been there done that, weren't no fun. Don't wish it anyone else either. Just wondered if it were possible.
  24. Not sure how many are on my side at this point in time. That's why I'm asking the question. Just wondered if it was possible.
