Dragonslayer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in First Gen Parts and Accessories
I've got both the left and right side lower fairings but I would not say either one was in good shape both have cracked or broken places and would need to be repaired and repainted but they are fixable. I'll sell them for $5.00 a piece, plus shipping. -

I bought the 1200 off ebay as a parts bike and it was not running, and had no title. But, I put a good battery in it and it turned over easily and all the systems seemed to work well. But, I never saw it running or have ridden it so I have no history with the second gear. As I started parting out the motorcycle all the parts seemed to be in good mechanical shape and working order except for dirty and in need of some clean-up. In the process of parting it out I took the stator cover off and found the stator completely fried which would explain it not running. The above is the exact circumstances of the motor as far I know but I make no other promises or claims about the motor I was just planning to part the motor out as needed for parts. Your welcome to inspect the engine since you live relatively close. Or Ill be glad to remove whatever parts you may be interest in . I do however, have history with the 1300. It was on my bike and running before I replaced it with a 1990 low mileage motor I found for a pretty good deal $550.00 including shipping. At the time my starter clutch had gone out which was the reason I swapped the motor out. -

I'll sell the upper fairings for $75.00 each plus shipping. Lower fairings need some repair I've got both the left and right side lower fairings but I would not say either one was in good shape both have cracked or broken places and would need to be repaired and repainted but they are fixable. I'll sell them for $5.00 a piece, plus shipping.and don't have vent grills all will need to be repainted Previous owner spray painted flat black over original red on red color. Got both front engine gaurds in good shape, no road rash. Correction on engine guards. I have two different sets, one with highway pegs and one set without. neither set is bent up but both have some surface rust and minor dents and scratches but no major road rash on a scale from 1 to 10 I'd give them a 7 to 8. I sell either set for $40.00 plus shipping. I'll post pictures later this morning. Then make me an offer plus shipping on the pieces you want. -

Sorry the TCI sold on ebay FYI it went for $104.00 I'll sell the entire engine less starter, carbs and the stator is bad for $250 You pick it up or $325.00 delivered. It turned over easily before I started parting it out, Odommeter was showing a little over 50K miles. Or I have a 87, 1300 less Carbs and starter and Stator and cover. 1300 has a bad starter clutch. 80k miles for $175 you pick up $250.00 delivered. -

I'm glad that the job worked out. Been sitting here thinking about a ride destination for this afternoon. Kennessaw would be in range what do you have going on today. I could return your gauges and bring some carb parts for you to play with . I'll call -
Glad everyone is OK, Hope to see you soon as you get the Honey-dos, done. Maybe St. Judes ride next month. Oh yea thanks for the tip about taking the front wheel off to remove the back wheel. It worked like a champ in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Parts from 83 xvz1200 still for sale. I had to shut down my used parts offer when I took my recent trip to Sturgis and out west. But, Now I'm back and I'm finished with the Mattcharva's bike rebuild project so now the parts store is back open. There are many, many good parts left and I need to wrap this project up as well . I need to move these babies and clear out the over flow of parts that run from my work area through the sunroom art studio into the house and on to the kitchen table. Most every thing has been disassmbled from the bike down to the engine and frame. Still have all the plastic body parts and most of the systems and electrical components. So, if your still looking for some parts please reply on this post and I will answer with availability and condition of part and price of part plus shipping cost. plus:2cents: Please do not respond by private message. That didn't work to well last time. Going back and forth between the thread and private messages kept me confused and clogged up private messages boxes. So step right up and tell me what you need, remember a lot of the parts are interchangable withe the XVZ1300 and later year model. If in doubt I can verify if it will work on your bike with my multi year Yamaha Parts program. It's all for a good cause, mine and Venturerider.org's. I am doing this for a few bucks but I'm not greedy and willing to share so I'm trying to offer these parts at a very reasonable cost and at the end of the day I'm gonna tally up what I've sold through this site a donate 10% off that amount to Venturerider.org and donate any remaining useable parts to the venture parts stash on the site.

78 from Memphis to Birmingham is a great Ride ( Brand new Interstate. I came back from sturgis that way and it also cross the Natchez Trace parkway and once you get on I-20 east from Birmingham you also go by the Barber Motorsports museum for some possible side trips on the way back If I go I probably plan on hitting these on the way back. -

Radiator fan
Dragonslayer replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not quite to the red but on a couple of occassions steam started discharging on the ground from the coolant bottle over flow tube. -
The bike starts getting warm and overheating when in traffic or sitting still idleing. When I'm moving the temp quickly goes back to normal temp but will start getting hot again while sitting at a light. I don't think the Radiator fan is coming on what should I check for?

The starter solenoid checked out, everything else checked out. Took the starter off and opened it up and found that it had an internal melt down with bits of what looked like solder chunks stuck in it. The parts bike had a good looking starter so I opened it up cleaned it checked it out and put it back together. I'm pretty confident that that was the problem. I'll know for sure when I put it back together this morning. Thanks for yall's help and input. on to the next problem.
