Vmax engine for my 1985
Dragonslayer replied to GaryZ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have a 84 XVZ1200 and an 87 XVZ1300 engines both with good transmissions that I'll sell or part out. Let me know if your interested. -
Several of the body parts off the 84 VR parts bikes that were spoken for are now available again. If any of you are still needing body parts they are being offered at a pre Christmas discount since I'm trying to raise a little extra Christmas cash. All of the parts will need to be repainted since the previouse owner painted black rattle can spray paint over the original red/ dark red factory finish, but, are otherwise in good shape. Front fender left top front fairing fake gas tank cover with gas cap door left and right side covers 84 style no louvers left and right saddle bags pre 86 style removeable front fairing brackets are available and are extremely straight:thumbsup2: So step right up and

OK Stardbog It sounds like you have a lot of experience with the pond monster trowling methode. You can use this methode to deal with pond monsters if you want to. I think I'll just stick with the tried and true HARPOON methode.

Let me tell you about my dog B.B. My dog BB (BB for Biker b*t*h) became mine while visiting my son down in Thomaston, Ga. My son and his wife had found a female brindle puppy and thinking her cute took her home to discover puppies can become a job in short order. So when I arrived they suckered me into taking care and possesion of this new unwanted dog. But getting her home at first seemed a problem since I was visiting on the bike. I ended up wrapping her in a towel an loosely restraining her to the tank cover between my legs with a bungee net. We took off a little after dark for the two hour ride back to Atlanta on a night I remember as bitter cold on the bike. And for some reason which I can not remember or did not know there was a traffic gridlock on I75 south of Atlanta forcing me on a cross country backroad route that made the two hour trip a four hour trip. BB did well on the ride though and seemed at the time to take to motorcycling. For the entire ride I kept thinking how cool it would be to train her to ride with me as my motorcycle riding canine mascott. My friend Scott had a Black Lab that loved to ride on the back of his Goldwing and rode with with him wherever he went. I figured if a black lab could do it so could a female brindle pit/terrier/mixed/mongral/dingo something or other. When we arrived home, I lovingly carried her to the back yard where she would live, to introduce her to her new dog family consisting of two female beagles, Miss Dee and Lucy Lou, and the male retarded beagle, Buster Brown, who was also a cast off by my youngest son. They all got along famously and took to each other right away becoming fast friends. So while making her a warm and comfortable bed I decided on the name of Biker B*T*H or B.B. for short and for those times when she would need a more politically correct handle. The next day I went straight to Pets R Us to load up on new dog necessities such as a collar, a new leash, a water bowl, a food bowl, her own chew toys, her own dog bed, a puppy size leather aviators cap and googles and a puppy size leather fur lined aviators jacket. The cap, goggles and Jacket I felt were absolutely a must have, and well worth the c-note they cost considering her intended occupation as a motorcyclist sidekick. Unfortunately my foresight did not include the fact she was a puppy and would out grow them in about two weeks. I managed to get out of the local Pets R Us for just under $300 but, seeing her in her new cap, goggles and leather jacket was priceless for as long as they lasted. As part of her motorcycle riding training I tried to take her for a ride in the truck one day with the window partially down to see if she would enjoyed sticking here head in the wind to condition her for motorcycle riding. Instead she just lay in the floorboard shaking like she was caught by the dog catcher and on the way to doggy jail. Figuring she didn't like riding much I returned to the house where she lept from the truck as soon as I opened the door and bee lined it to her dog house in her own back yard behind the safe fence gate. She never did take to motorcycling and to this day will not leave the comfort and security of the back yard even when the gate is left open. Unlike the three beagles that high tailed it for other parts first chance they got. Just thought I'd share.

Broken C.L.A.S.S. display
Dragonslayer replied to 83VR3711's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I rode mine for years without working C.L.A.S.S. without any problems but it was true that once I got mine working it made a tremendous positive difference especially when towing the trailer. Check your email I sent you some resources for a new controller I've got parts to one but am not sure about the display component I have it has a black spot between the pieces of glass in the display. -
84 VR Regulator
Dragonslayer replied to jb1016's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
ac VOLTAGE SHOULD BE WITHIN A VOLT AC OF EACH OTHER, BUT 9 TO 14 VOLT SHOULD BE HIGH ENOUGH OUTPUT FROM STATOR. DOES SOUND LIKE YOUR VOLTAGE REG/RECT IS THE PROBLEM. Make sure your getting good readings through the output plug of the stator. This particular quick connect plug is problematic and notorious for bad connections. -

Yes I had ac voltage of 6.7/7.6/7.8 range at the plug and tried three different regulators and got the same thing on all three was just getting 12.4 volts to the battery which was not enough to keep the battery hot. Went through the ground connection issues. No Help. It wasn't untill I changed out the stator and the ac ranges went up to 8.9/9.3/9.5. The old stator had three burnt windings out of 18 and it was enough to drop the output ac voltage low enough to not have enough Dc voltage after passing through reg/rect. Leading me to believe that all three reg/rect were good. Now I.m getting 14.5 volts to the battery at 1000 rpm. So, I have two extras. $25.00 was what I paid for the last reg/rect. YOU WANT ME TO SEND YOU ONE? -
I can probably help you with the internal hard parts of the carbs including the bowl drain plug but don't think I can help you with the gaskets.

How can any company, even a Hong Kong company advertise, make and sell a full size vinyle motorcycle cover for $1.66, Buy it now price. I don't know either but I got mine in the mail today. I really didn't expect much when I saw it on e-bay but I figured what the heck for $1.66 I'd take a chance. When it came today just seven days since I pushed the buy it now button I was even impressed with the prompt delivery all the way from Hong Kong, China. When I got it out of the package and put it on the bike I was even impressed with the fit, fabric and workmanship. Gee this time I guess it wasn't too good to be true.

Beer30, I will certainly defer to you as the leather finishing expert in this forum and do appreciate your expert guidance in this matter. The buckles look great and came out nice but I'm unsure what method was used to put the logo image on the surface. the buckle otherwise has a raw leather coloration. I was hopeing to color the belt and buckle to match and hopefully match close to a pair of boots I have which is a light tan color. But being unsure how the image on the buckle is made I did not want to do anything that might destroy the image or overall appearance. I have no idea what type leather was used on the buckle or the belt so I would appreciate any expert opinion you might offer.
