  1. Thanks, It turned out OK. I found out that all you need to do auto body work is a big hammer, a logging chain and a pine tree.
  2. Opening the window is a good thing if you gonna shoot out of it. At least your house aint moving. I've never heard of a deer running into a house before. Oh, maybe I have seems like I remember a you tube video of a deer jumping through a livingroom window. Hey Boomer you better watch out.
  3. I didn't have my camera handy when it happened and since SleeperHawk's mechanic Bobbie wasn't there I didn't get any pictures of the deer, wrecked car or us standing on the side of the road before daylight but, here are some pictures of the before body parts and the car after the new vintage parts are installed and before the new paint job.
  4. Chris is in a much better state of mind this morning since I got her car put back together. After I read her this post see even laughed and said " I guess all you do is laugh about it." If I keep being nice she just might let me do the airbrush thing on the hood.
  5. Dano, I posted this story especially for you. I know how you love my deer hunting stories.
  6. It's that time of year again when those of us that are yearning for the hunt get that disorder that is commonly referred to as Buck Fever. Those of you not interested in hunting may not understand. But, being a life time hunter it hits me hard about the time I notice the leaves changing. This year one of our members and one of my newest bestest friends generously offered to let me hunt on his property which is located smack dab in the middle of prime Georgia deer and wild hog territory. The weekend before last I got a late start for the morning hunt to get to my spot and settled before sunrise. So, on the way to the stand I spooked the big boy as he was passing my stand on the way to breakfast. And as a result he blew and ran off and I blew my chance at bagging a big buck for a least that hunt on that day. So the next hunt day ended up being yesterday. And, I was pretty determined to get to my spot on time. Buuuuut, My house mate, sidekick and hunting companion, Chris (lovingly referred to as Miss Stumpy, sometimes Guney Bird) does not respond well to being aroused from her slumbers at 4:AM nor does she seem amused, pleased or motivated by my motivational and time management speech which pretty much consist of repeating over and over again....................... "Areba, areba...... on-delay, on-delay, on-delay......no time for that........don't stop now.......... we're burning daylight!!!!!! " I don't know why. So, to appease her so she would get in the car, and with alterior motives, :whistling:I offered to drive. Knowing full well that I would be able to make up some lost time while she slept in the passenger seat on the way. Time wise we were cutting it close and about three miles away from the property I was watching the first hint of daylight peeping over the horizon when in my peripheral vision I see a humongous buck (with a rack bigger than anything I have ever killed in a lifetime of hunting), leap through a hedgerow and over the fence alongside the road just in time to land on the hood of the car. Now I wasn't really watching the speedometer nor do I know exactly how fast the buck was moving through mid air but, I estimate the combined impact was somewhere around 100 MPH. As much as Chris hates to be woken up at 4:00 AM she really hates being woken up by the airbag smacking her in the face as it deployed. As much as I was hoping to kill a big buck yesterday morning this was not exactly what I had in mind, obviously. Understandably, she was quite upset, shaken up and scared :Bunny2:as we were on the side of the road, out in the middle of the country and out of cell phone range inspecting the damage to HER smashed up car. I was gonna try to put the dead humongous 8 point buck in the trunk but I couldn't lift it by myself and Chris wasn't interested in having anything else to do with that deer at that point in time. Being more concerned with her car than the dead deer, rightfully so. The damage to the car was pretty dramatic with a broken windshield, deployed passenger airbag, missing right front head light, crumpled hood and right front fender. But, fortunately the car was still drivable. The engine would run and it wasn't spewing radiator steam. So, we left the dead deer on the side of the road and rode on to the property. I couldn't blame Chris for not wanting to go hunting after all of that, but, since we were there I figured what the heck. Chris went back to sleep in the camper while I went hunting in time to miss a shot at a 300 pound wild hog. Later in the morning John, his son Jesse and I went back to the scene of the accident to retrieve the deer. But, to my disappointment someone had seen the humongous dead buck roadkill and had claimed it for their own trophy wall. Since Chris' car was close to the end of it's economic life. She had opted for liability and uninsured motorist insurance and passed on the comprehensive insurance coverage when time to renew her insurance policy. So, since the buck was an uninsured deer and not an uninsured motorist, Geico was not gonna be of much help. That being the case, first thing this morning, my son Clint and I were at Pull-A-Part junk yard in search of and pulling vintage Chevrolet parts. To my delight and surprise we found the hood, fender, headlight and airbag assembly all for less than $150.00. The two of us got out the tools and tore into the project like experienced and professional auto body shop mechanics.... which we're not. None the less, amazingly we got the unibody cross member perfectly straight by use of a logging chain, a gigantic pine tree and a quick joilt in reverse. By lunch time we were bolting on our new vintage Chevrolet parts. By dark we had the car back together as good as new..........almost. Except for the two tone paint job and the still cracked windshield. Since I know I'm gonna end up painting the car anyway I'm thinking ghost flames and maybe an airbrushed depiction of a dead Humongus eight point buck on the hood, or something else equally cool. I hadn't mentioned that part to Chris yet.
  7. Congrats great garage. looks like a good place to work on bikes. Can you store all these first gen parts I haven't been able to sell?
  8. Your right and the link answered my questions, thank you very much, I was just saying....... Thanks for the link
  9. A Daytona PD officer walking up flipping his ticket book open. Evidently The Dragonslayer had parked in the Handicap space under the pretense that Ugly was most deffinately a handicap. But, as he tried to explain his point of view to the officer the Officer replied if your handicapped how come you ride a 1st gen. 1st gens evidently do not quallify as an handicap vehicles. But, the officer did mention that if I had been riding a Hardly it would be a different story because everyone knows that if you are riding a Hardly you have a handicap. Realizing that he may have inadvertantly offended some of the fellow VR riders who were riding 2nd gens. Dragonslayer tried to mend some bridges by making the comment that it didn't take long at all for the 2nd gens to catch up. And what BongbobNY meant to say was that the Hardly riders would never be able to go fast enough to catch the wormhole. He was more concerned that we have seemed to have lost the women in the pack. As he looked around Yamma Mamma and Aussie Annie were no where to be found. So Dragonslayer whipped out his laptop from the trunk ( which was no longer Kaplooie) to check the VR threads. As he suspected the two women had not posted for several days on the adlib thread. But, evidently were posting elsewhere. Dragonslayer assumed that they were upset with or bored with the adlib story. Could it be that Annie was turned off because the Dragonslayer had lost his Professor status by getting Einstien's and Newton's theorys mixed up. Or that someone had suggested that Yamma Mamma had a bimbo side that was slowing us up. Or that the Dragonslayer did not compliment Yamma Mamma in a timely manner about her Glazed Frosting or did not tell her he would love to be Thurstan Howell III. At any rate he was sure that they had diverted to the Walmart and were probably getting frisked by Yammer Dan at this very moment. The thought of which made him very sad. What could he do to make amends and get the girls back? Maybe he should..............................................
  10. Thanks that helped but his price $213 there are several new vmax starters listed for $91.95 on ebay
  11. That's cold, I could jump it off down my driveway then when I get to Col. Pooles you can jump me off to get it home. No Thanks it's too wet to ride today anyway, even if I could.
  12. Here's where I'm at...... last night I got a 68 ford falcon solenoid hooked it up good solenoid starter still drags. Took starter back off and opened it. even though I had removed starter and cleaned it up a couple of days ago communicator and brushes were badly carboned up again. Starter had a burnt wire smell and contact points I inspected looked questionable. So at this point I'm betting bad starter/windings/communicator/armature or brushes or combination. So I think I'll go back to earlier post and get new 4 brush vmax starter. will all of the vmax starters work or is there a specific year model range that will work or not work. So, I'm evidently I'm done for the day on this project until I get new starter. So for now I'm gonna get back on the Virago project and see if I can get something accomplished.
  13. Took the battery to autozone as suggested to have load tested the battery checked out alright.
  14. cracked starter housing? Please elaborate..... Housing appears to be fine.
  15. On the subject of solenoids, I have had to replace the solenoid several times since owning the bike and never had much confidence or luck with the yamaha solenoid, especially since Yamaha wants $80.00 plus for a new solenoid I have heard or read on post in the past that a replacement car solenoid from NAPA was much cheaper and reliable but I have never been able to find out specifically which solenoid will work on the bike.. Can anyone help me with the answer to that question. I have asked that question several times before on this forum and no body has been able to give me an answer.
  16. I tried that by jumping off car battery. The starter drug a little bit at first but engine quickly caught, fired and cranked.
  17. I'm not sure I know how to determine how many amps the battery is putting out. Judging by the rate starter draws down voltage it discharges the battery very quickly and the charger recharges battery very quickly.
  18. Please help. I am completely stumped. There has got to be something that I am overlooking. Possible I have not been clear in relating the symptoms and thought if I reiterate them step by step fresh eyes might be able to catch something that I/we have over looked. Battery (Odysee PC680 replacement battery under warranty 4 months old) charged battery to fully charged acording to battery charger, on bench when charger was removed battery read 13.01 dcv by digital meter 12 hours later battery read 12.82 dcv 36 hrs later battery read 12.82 dcv 48 hrs later battery read 12.82 dcv reinstalled back into bike........@ 12.82 volt......... starter drags dragging starter quickly draws battery down to 12.4 to 12.6 volts put charger back on battery charger.... charger charges battery back up to 12.8 + volts within seconds less than one minute. Starter solenoid Battery hot at 12.82 dcv line side of solenoid 12.82 load side of solenoid with starter button pushed... 10.5 dcv to 11.00 dcv starter drags this would indicate high resistance across solenoid right But, with battery hot 12.82, using jumper cord from + battery terminal and checking dcv to opposite end of jumper cord shows 12.82.... touch opposite end of jumber cable directly to starter power lug...........starter drags Starter Powered starter on the bench.... it runs fine reinstalled on bike........ it drags Starter gears opened side covers gears look fine. remove starter gears...... starter clutch gear spins freely clockwise but, is stationary in counter clockwise direction. with the three smaller gears removed. hit start button with starter mounted but 3 gears removed starter runs fine put three gears back in an reset side cover........ starter drags with starter gears removed and rachett on flywheel bolt engine turns smoothly in both directions except for expected compression lobe of cylinders with spark plugs in. Meaning that engine turns easily but you can feel compression build and realease as valves open and close. All cables + and - have been upgraded and all connection points have been inspected, cleaned and checked. an additional ground from engine block to frame has been added. What am I missing? I am hoping fresh eyes on problem can ad some insight.
  19. Kaplooie must be a word after all, it's reconized in Oz:backinmyday:
