  1. I bought an item off E-bay one time which was described as being engineered to trip traffic lights for motorcycles. I think I paid around $15.00 US plus shipping. What I received was two round magnets which ressembled refrigerator magnets. The theory being that the magnetic field created by the magnets would trip the traffic light sensor. Well I don't know if they actually worked or not because I could not tell much difference. It would be interesting to have a more informed opinion on this subject. Surely, there is a traffic engineer out there some where that would know. When I get stuck behind a light like that I always look both ways to make sure there are no on coming traffic especially LEO"s then run the light. However, around here they are installing camera's on all the intersections to catch people running lights remotely, then sending a ticket in the mail. I wonder how they are dealing with the motorcycle issue. At least in Georgia we still have the right turn on red after stop rule if not otherwise posted. So I guess your are only in a bind if you want to take a left.
  2. I have, road a friend of mines 2005 Midnight Venture one weekend at the first if the summer. It wasn't a bad ride but I still liked my 1st Gen better.
  3. I would have screamed like a little girl and jumped over the moon. I stuck a screwdriver in my eye one time and did not like it at all. Sorry you had to go through this and hope things turn out for the best. I'll say a prayer.
  4. If someone would tell me how to upload a video i would show you a real winter bike...... VMAX ON ICE
  5. Do you need 1st gen or 2nd gen covers i have 1 first gen cover.
  6. Sounds good but, when you torque it down is there any specific to torque pressure for the clutch bolts and fly wheel bolt?
  7. I still had the flywheel and starter clutch off the 1200 parts bike engine so i decided to pull it first, mainly as practice to see what it would take to get the flywheel off. I did as you suggested and hooked up the harmonical balancer puller, torqued it down and heated it with a torch and after a little struggle it did pop off with a bang just like yall said it would. Then after seeing how it came apart I went to the scoot to pull the flywheel off the bike motor. Again, I hooked up the balancer puller and low and behold the flywheel popped off with a pimmf.... with the first turn of the rachet on the center bolt of the puller. How easy was that? Once I got the starter clutch off it was apparent that the starter clutch was cracked all the way thru at one of the mounting bolt holes. The starter clutch off the 1200 was not cracked but did have a little wear marks at the three bearing points. Question: Realizing I may have to do it again later, and since I'm broke and can't afford the permenant fix right now. You think it will buy me a little time to reassemble flywheel using 1200 starter clutch? I'm thinking it might and all I have to loose is gaskets and maybe a little labor. Oh Yea PS: Taking the stator cover off the bike motor I noticed the stator is a little suspiciously burnt about 50% of the winding knodes. Does anyone have a decent stator they would let go cheap?
  8. I could use the stator if it is any good and the starter clutch behind the flywheel if you don't mind shipping it to Atlanta. I'll pay shipping of course.
  9. Are there any tricks on getting the flywheel/72 tooth gear/starter clutch off crank shaft?
  10. Been having that box of rocks sound on start upand have been ignoring it as much as was possible. It's been getting worse and worse now starter spins and no motor turn over. Put bike on the right side lean stand took off the stator cover and verified that when start button pushed all gears including large gear behind flywheel spin but does not engage flywheel or turn over crank shaft. Pretty much sounds like the starter clutch.......... Don't ya think? Is the Dano mod still available and is that the current way to go on the starter clutch issue. Feed back appreciated.
  11. Sure looks like the same bear to me. However I can't see his paws to tell if he was wearing Dan's riding gloves.
  12. The bear was obviously drunk or stoned evidenced by the trouble he went through to get at the peanut butter sandwich followed by the erratic driving. Had to be the same bear. After he robbed my cooler at Vogel and drank my pre mixed Gin and Tonic we know that GLOVED bear was a lush.,
  13. Wish I was riding with you to Sturgis but it doesn't look like I'm gonna make it this year. Have a great time and be safe.
  14. Hey Brian, I've been around, lurking a little bit maybe, but still kicking. Life has been a little on the B*tchy side lately and has been keeping me busy dodgeing the B*tch slapping. Been thinking about you and Amarillo. How are the girls doing?
  15. Reminds me of the chapter "140 miles to Tucumcari, New mexico on a May-Pop Metzler"from my epic story Sturgis and back , soon to be out as a full length movie. Part one finished at 2 hours long. Evidently, from what I understand from my tire guy expert. pulling a trailer especially on super hot days really eats up the rear tire tread.
  16. XVZ 1300 from the top half of the lower crank case housing up and completely disassembled. XVZ 1200 pretty much the complete engine less side covers and still assembled but planning to dissassemble in the morning.
  17. I'm getting out of the used 1st gen parts business which has been slow and time consuming and am about to haul what is left of the XVZ1200 and XVZ1300 motors to the metal salvage yard for scrape value. If anyone is interested in engine parts or frame parts please speak up and PM me with what your looking for. Or any other parts I still have a wide range of all kinds of parts left.
  18. Done it a million times. The best way to fix cracks is the ABS glue method or the heat and melt method both works best if done from the underneath side. ABS glue is like PVC glue used for plastic pipe but the label must specifically say for use on ABS plastic and can be bought in the Home depot plumbing department. Fiberglass resin and many of the Plastic Glues do not work well if not specifically made for ABS Plastic which is what the fairings are made of. This needs to be done from the underneath or unpainted side because the glue can bubble the painted surface. The heat and melt method involves taking a hot soldering iron and working down the middle of the crack and melting the plastic back together from both sides of the crack. If done right it does make a stable bond but leaves a fairly unsmooth surface when finished. That is why it works best if done from the underneath side. Both methods will stabalize a crack in the plastic to keep it from getting bigger. As far as removing the fairings Which seems to be necessary to do anything to these bikes follow these steps. 1. remove windshield chrome trim and windshield 2. remove head light cover, chin vent under headlight, lower vent fairing, side cover, radiator side reflector trim, false tank cover, dash panel which will reveal all of the attachment points of the fairings. Caution: Abs plastic is brittle especially old abs plastic so remove parts carefully to avoid starting new cracks and breaking off attachment point tabs. Hope this helps if you need more info Pm me.
  19. This is all very interesting and enlightening. I never knew. I have been using Sea-foam mostly because many of you swear by it but the price has always made me uncomfortable. My question is: Does Naptha have a shelve life. I have gallons of it in my shop bought to use for a cleaner for painting purposes. I'd like to use it up if it's still good now I have a new purpose for it.
  20. What no pond monsters? I wasn't able to make the Freebird MD this year ...........AGAIN but, I did so love to see the pictures posted of the Pond monster sitings which I have not noticed from the postings this year. I also missed seeing any video on 86 er's buddy Bubba. I miss his insightful ramblings as well..
  21. Still running the ME 880 I bought in Daytona 2005 on the front over 30,000 miles on it and you can't notice any Tread missing but the sidewall is cracking. The rear ME 880 didn't do so well. It got less then 5,000 miles on it pulling a trailer and it almost left me stranded in the desert of New Mexico on the Sturgis 2008 trip. You might recall the story, 140 miles to Tucumcari on a may pop metzler. The used 1/2 life HD Dunlop I had to buy in Tucumcari got about 18,000 miles before I swapped it for a new Dunlop E3 which I'm now running on the rear. The E3 has about 6,000 miles on it now and is cupping on the outside tread. All in all my tire experience from brand to brand has been all over the board and reminds me of the old farmer talking about his cross eyed wife. He said..... "She falls down the well and her eyes go crossed......... Mule kicks her in the head and they go back straight............I don't know!":confused24:
  22. It had been a few months since I have been able to do any of the N. Ga M&E's but I was able to ride on the run to Dahlonega last Saturday hosted by RandyR. Here are a few pics of the day. It was a great ride and Randy did a great job of planning a very scenic route. It got a little hot later in the day but, all in all it was a great ride with old and new friends.
  23. Hea Walter, I'm still breathing and did manage to ride on the N. Ga M&E last saturday. Thanks for asking. I haven't been real active for the past few months because life's been a little hectic lately but I'm still here. I thought I had the only bike in the world with a right side kick stand. Once again my uniqueness is eroding.......or imitation is the highest form of flatery...... or I'm glad the idea may be catching on....... It is a very handy mod.
