  1. OK job done. Good enough for this kid. Much better 2nd time around. Sanded and started again. 4 coats of color and 2 coats of clear gloss. Little spray gun worked great again. No complaints with that little gun. Cleaned after each use and it didn't miss a bit. The small corner under the Class controls was broken up by brake fluid right after I got the bike and was going over it...my bad. Hard to see the thin red line... There is a section highlighted with a thin red line that shows the area where I destroyed the corner dropping the bike on left side when there was nothing to put my foot down on. Not to bad here...as there is some overspray that must be buffed out...didn't mask it this time as per Jeff's instructions. Worked better I must say! Thanks Jeff. I'm good with the job even though it could be better. But that's my technique that is failing, not the equipment or paint. Pics now added! Thanks to all for advice and help...
  2. Thumps usually do come from tires...but that would be a tire that has lost of chunk of tread....check that first.
  3. No problem...I'm ready to bring the bolts up anytime! (david's messenger and bolt delivery service!!) Grins!
  4. Suggestion? ...maybe it would help us if you would go through and list the steps you've taken so far in your tests...and the results of each test. Example: Did you check the output of the stator with the regulator disconnected? What was the voltage between each of the three legs? Did you follow the testing procedure in the shop manual starting on pg. 8-23? Etc. ? (manual can be found/downloaded on this site...) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?91-Guides-Parts-Diagrams-Etc
  5. @KIC, I decided to go ahead and sand off the 1st attempt and try again. I'm getting down to where I need to get some primer. Will try gray color as I don't want to change the base color of the plastic to much or the paint may not match or look right. Don't know as I'm new to this. Wrenching is one thing...painting is another! Next few days will tell...
  6. I've talked to the "experts" in the stores about this question and get conflicting reports....so I thought I would come to the "real" brain trust....you guys and gals. What is the differences between mesh, textile and leather garments? I've read where leather is great to keep the hot air off of you but it doesn't really breathe or offer the ventilation needed. I have two leather jackets and they are great for cool or cold to keep the wind off...but little warmth...and I already have two mesh jackets that give some ventilation but the herat gets in as well... Here's my reason: I live in an area where it gets a tad warm in the summer. I would like to keep riding...since once I get out of the desert...the higher elevation areas and mountains of Arizona have some really nice roads to ride on. Problem is...I can't stay up there forever and need to go back through the lower deserts to get home. The heat bothers me more than ever at 68 years young. So what jacket would offer the best compromise between safety and being cool??? DO I spring for a textile jacket to try it out??? Also...what do you guys and gals prefer to wear in the heat? (maybe someone can do this as a survey/poll?) TIA, david
  7. Thought I answered this yesterday but don't see post. Don't get a high output stator. Others have had issues with them. Recommend either a new on eBay or dealer or a used one on eBay...Pinball cycles. There is a new one listed for 1st gens here on the eBay folder... But something doesn't look right. I don't see three AC voltage output leads... Only two. Maybe it's a bad picture. I'm sure someone else would know if it would work on a second gen scoot.
  8. Steve, not sure if Yamaha intended an optional lighter plug in that right hole with plug as i had to ream the hole out to get my lighter plug to fit. But it does work great for that purpose after slight modification. Other than that, I think the ads were wrong. My 05 RSV only has the one plug under fairing...I added the second.
  9. Me? I use whatever the manufacturer recommends..... And for all six vehicles/motors i own... They all say use regular. Well done report. Thanks for sharing!! David

  11. He was the best in boxing... But his politics turned me off.
  12. Me too! But I do like wind but fear road rash and busted brains more....nowadays....
  13. Well done, Glen! Barkeep... Can we make this a sticky?

See if he can get 2nd gen wires....

  16. Bowser, can't help with filter as mine is fresh from PO. My PO moved the filter to just under front of driver seat.. Tucked nicely in frame.... Just a thought for you while you are in there.
  17. I think Carl is onto something. I just read my old post referenced above and noticed the info does agree that your pinion should be lubricated by final drive oil. So I bet the holes are plugged in your pinion area or someone swapped out the wrong drive shaft assembly and didn't grease it..... Wonder if a Mk 1 drive shaft and pinion would even fit on a 2nd gen?
  18. Sigh... Just can't make it. Would have left today..... Instead... Have to pick up Kidlet this weekend coming in from Belize. I'm going to find a way to take a long road trip... One way or the other. Be safe and have a great ride!!!
  19. Also check the joint on exhaust before muffler. My AIS is completely removed. Still some backfires... But with HD exhausts on ...I don't mind the pops... They blend well with the rumble!
  20. I'm confused (which isn't hard at this point in life)... Granted my experience has been with 1st gen rear ends... But my 1st gen v 1.2 driveshaft rear is lubed by final drive oil from pumpkin. Did the 2ndgen rear go back in time like the original 1st gen... Lubed by grease only??? Is this what I'm seeing in Vlad's last set of pics?
  21. Vlad... Don't know if this would help you. I had a rare broken pinion on my first gen last year. I had excellent help figuring out the issue... With pics. I only bring it up in case there is info in old post that may help. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?91454-Rear-End-Questions&highlight=Drive+shaft
  22. Prayers Up!
  23. Me too. Maybe someone (like us) needs to let the National Transportation Board know about these failures. Get enough complaints in, they'll force the company to do something. Think "Recall".
  24. LOL! James, put your glasses on and look at the pics again! Grins! Lots of paint left over, but I may do this job over again when I get back in town in a week...
