  1. I'm with Heather. I was self-employed most of my business career. There are a whole slew of lessons I learned, and one that stands out is always plan for a rainy day. I made some very good money, and and still had lean times without a paycheck. All that carried me through was my knowledge that I knew I was good at my career, and the savings I saved just for those dead times.Remember, the rewards far outweigh the risks. So get an attorney who will work with you, a young pup or oldie who is near retirement and knows business law, get an accountant (or hire the people who work for the current owner) and go over the cost of doing business. You will find that you won't be wrenching much as you should be on the front line with the customers...until you can hire a manager who knows wrenching but also enjoys working up front with customers. Take some time and talk to the current owner. Ask him why does he think he succeeded? Pick his brain about his customers. Is he willing to step in once in a while if you need him? Will he help you with the transition? Then go for it. Life is short....and remember...if things do go south...make sure you recognize when it's time to walk away and close the shop. Don't hang on until way to late. That's one of the biggest mistakes an owner can make. Loyalty to customers and employees is great but not at the expense of everything you and your partner are worth. Oh...and ask your better half about this. Talk to her about your fears and your positives...She is your best sounding board. You can do this.....and if you commit...go all the way...put your heart and soul into it. It is your business, right?
  2. Update: After a couple of hundred miles, the RSV is a bit stiffer for sure. Instead of riding like a Lincoln, she rides like a Cadillac. More firm on corners as well. Overall, increasing fork oil wt from 5 wt to 10wt is a good compromise. Better corner handling but a firmer ride. So far, shocks are riding well. Adding the additional 1/4 inch for a total of 1 inch lowered... did make a difference in low speed handling. Now she's easier to maneuver, but again a compromise....as very slow speed straight riding is trickier. I go through border patrol checkpoints routinely and the slow moving line is more of a challenge for me now. Don't know why, but now the RSV is like the VR....I wiggle a bit and not as sure in my balance as I creep along. Guess having stiff steering is a blessing some times. Not often, but...!! Next project on RSV? Exchange rear end for a VMAX rear. Like to see how she does with acceleration and MPG's.
  3. Hope things get better so you can ride!
  4. I have the standard bars and the 1 1/2 inch Baron's...my cables are fine.
  5. I do same, but still plug in ear buds when I want quiet with my music. With quality ear buds, the stereo system on both of my ventures sounds quite good😀
  6. I'm in the same boat? Replaced bulb but still no light or trip odo count. All I get is the motor stumble... Which switching to reserve cures. From what I've read in older posts, replacing sender unit is easy and not that expensive. Next time my tank is low, I'll take it off and see if I can fix something.
  7. Hmmmm... Now if that Raptor had a lift for a scoot......( Thinking out loud here )
  8. Book says 14 watts/ channel RMS.
  9. I think I found the sender. On left side. Just aft of the rear engine guard mount near bottom of engine should be the sender. It's mounted into the block with two screws/bolts. Has one black/red wire coming out of it. The diagram says it goes directly to computer... So probably runs up left frame rail... Then over to computer. Let me know if you find it.. Could be in bottom of motor.. Can't tell
  10. David, did you look in the 1st gen tech area for the electrical schematics? Once you find the sensor, should be easy to follow the wire and look for junctions. At the least, write down the wire colors and grab a flashlight and explore. I'm out of town can't check on my 89.
  11. Dion, Shoot in 720 30p..... Get more time on card! Shoot 720 60p if you want clear still frames for fast motion stuff! Good deal.... Let us know more after you've played with it..
  12. At 55 seconds in to video...as the bike crosses into the intersection, the lines on the crosswalk and the overhead lines "bend" as the bike goes past them. This is the distortion I'm talking about. Anything straight in a horizontal or vertical plane will bend as you go by it due to the wide angle lens. It drives me nuts, but that's probably because I made a career making pretty pictures and can't stand errors! My bad! Even my own "home movies" make me cringe. Being retired, you would think I would get over that! Sigh... The feature set and camera quality do seem quite good for the price. Better value than GoPro for sure... david
  13. I don't know about that one.....the 180 degree field of view would be hard for me to take. That's fisheye lens territory and must distort the images horribly....yikes! There's only so much correction a little camera can do for that kind of wide angle lens... Other than that, I like the rest of it..... david Update: Just viewed the video. Of the shots taken from the car, some were so wide that the horizon was bending...both horizontal and vertical distortion. The interior car shots were quite acceptable...I was impressed. The rest of the footage looks like it was shot with other cams....
  14. After a long day yesterday of beautiful rain, it was nice this morning...and the 89 Blue Beastie was begging for a ride...off we went. On the way back from stopping at Mt Hopkins Visitor Center near Elephant Head, I stopped to take a picture showing how green everything is in the desert. I was just starting back down the hill when Lo and behold, here came the same Venture Royale I saw last month and posted a picture here on forum. We got a chance to stop and chat for 30 minutes or so! Got to meet Al and Charee who live right here in Green Valley! His trike is an 86! Wonderful couple! We exchanged info and am looking forward to seeing Al and Charee here in the near future. In the meantime, as soon as it cools down, since they love to ride, I can see many rides to Sonoita, breakfast in Rio Rico and maybe a gunfight or two in Tombstone or mine cave exploration in Bisbee! Meeting them made a nice ride so much better. david
  15. No...not mine. Found sitting in the shade of a WalMart.
  16. Thoughts on uploading pics from phone: 2 ways to do this: through computer or direct from phone: 1: Some phones require you to turn on the file sharing. 2: Some phones require you to turn on upload/connection to computer through the usb port. 3: If both above are turned on (my Samsung requires this each time I connect), then you should see the computer loading a screen with options to upload to computer. If using computer, transfer photos to computer then upload (faster). 4: If going direct from phone....the browser you use needs permission to access your camera and your images. Once that is done, simply log on to the web site, if it's a new thread...go to a new thread, give it the title and say what you want to say, then put cursor where you want the pic to go. Then go up to the little add picture icon and touch that...you should get a little window that opens allowing to you pick the picture you want. Go to that area of the phone where the pic is, find it, touch it..... You may see some words about an attachment on screen...that's ok. Now save the thread. If it's a reply to thread, go to that area, click on reply and follow above thoughts. Uploading from phone basically is the same from computer from the web site's perspective. The differences are in the phone and it's OS... VS the way the computer handles images. Hope this helps.
  17. Another thought about charging systems and temperatures: If you notice in your car, the hotter it is, the less charging "seems" to be taking place. Granted, the AC is running on a higher fan speed, probably accounting for some of the charging "loss". But, I think there might be a correlation between ambient temps and charging. If you check the grounds, the mounting for corrosion and the stator wire connections for corrosion...and if all is good, then I wouldn't worry about the charging symptoms you describe. If your battery starts to fail...yep, you have a problem. But if not...I might throw in the suggestion that it's charging normally.
  18. All well and good. But when a 1st Gen goes down...it is going down regardless of people, weather, or the Man above's best wishes! Trouble is, the crash bars only protect the motor, not the plastic and when it goes down, it usually goes down parallel to the ground (or lower) so there is no leverage to get that puppy up at all...nope...nada...none! At least for me. My butt on the seat? LOL...I can't sit that low to get my butt on the seat. Thankfully, both times I've had help. I do like the little screw jack idea of jacking up on the crash bars to get her up enough to push the rest of the way.
  19. Welcome Home! Sure is good to land back on the good ole US of A! I remember that feeling... Enjoy the family....we have lots of patience for pics and stories and scoots for sale.... !
  20. well..I have a different experience. With the VStar 650 Classic, the VStar 950Tourer, the 89 VR and my 05 RSV. Even fuel injection can be balanced simply. And in all cases, reduced the vibes on the bars and tank. I can usually tell when it's time....the buzzing gets annoying. FWIW, david
  21. One thing I have found that produces vibes on tank and bars... 1: carb sync.
  22. My boat has a group 27 car battery...12 years old. Been through a lot last four years, including sitting outside in New Hampshire one winter two years ago. Still tests good but I have my doubts. VStar950t battery is an AGM..... It died two weeks ago. It lasted five years. Replacement goes in tomorrow. Batteries are interesting creatures. I made a living using Anton Bauer Nicads. Broke all rules and they lasted almost ten years each before rebuild. At $500 each...I was happy!! I'm good if I get five years out of a scoot battery. Their charging systems are rudimentary at best..... I'm surprised batteries last as long as they do with the load we put on them.
  23. I haven't been riding much. Spending most of my time in Phoenix area helping Pat with her mom's house. I'm in Phoenix now...... I still have something for you from James @Van River. Carry it in truck in case we run into each other in Tucson. October I should be free of all the travel. Hopefully. Till then..... Hit or miss where I'll be. Lift is always at house... You can borrow any time...
