  4. Hi Rodney, Thought I would jump in here as you are maybe a month away from departure. New Mexico has some beautiful roads to ride in, so does Arizona, but both are desert states which require some careful planning in the winter. February NM temps hover around freezing at night, as does AZ. Deserts do get cold at night, even in spring! Even during the day, the deserts of NM can be down right chilly to ride. March is better, but no cigar. Not trying to rain on your parade, just being honest. Its the elevation of the NM deserts that gives the more extreme temps. Similar to the Indian Lands in nothern AZ. That said, come on down as south as you can before riding. You might wanrt to drive van to Phoenix area before you park it. Ride to Sun City, AJ and around AZ first...then load up...drive to NM and unload and ride that state near the end of your trip when NM will be a tad warmer. In fact, if you can wait until March to start your drive down...you can then ride both states in their entirety , except for some mountain areas, and have great weather! Call me when you get closer and I can help you with itinerary. I don't have a place for you to store truck while you ride, otherwise I would offer that. My HOA is finicky about that stuff! Text me before you call so I can be ready to answer questions. OH..buy a propane Buddy heater...the midddle size. About $90. Works great on low to knock the chill off and the small bottles can be found in WaMart cheap. I use one on my sailboat for winter sails and it does a good job. Only need it at night and morning for a few minutes. Any sporting goods store should have them. And bring a small spray bottle with soapy water to test for leaks on stove and or heater. Later, david
  5. Update: Sorry Carl.....89 VR Mk2 The switch comes out easy...if you pay attention to detail. Which I didn't. A special tool probably would help but basically, depress two solid tabs...or better yet...squeeze the alternative sides of the plastic and it pulls apart. I went slow so when the spring popped out, I caught it before it took off to parts unknown. While apart, I cleaned the switch...dirty! The master Cylinder needed to come apart. I pushed it apart from clutch end as I simply couldn't get my clip tool in to undo the clip holding everything together. Dirty mess inside! Cleaned everything with brake cleaner, then took out my gun cleaning kit and used the 2nd to largest swab and tools to clean the bore. Going back together...used the parts diagram and only made one mistake. The tiny shaft that is between the clutch handle and the piston was reversed. A quick look at the diagram and pulled handle off and swapped the little push rod ends. Back together. Has a slight leak from handle side but it stopped after I got some pressure in the system. I must assume the seal didn't want to work until the air got out. BTW, here the vacuum pump worked wonders to get the air out. But pumping the handle and bleeding the old fashioned way was darn fast once we got some firmness to the handle. Clutch works again. Another lesson learned about these bikes. They really aren't hard to work on, once you figure out the engineers' humor. Much like British sports cars.....except the British have a slightly off-center way of designing cars! The Japanese are logical in their own way... Yay! Sorry about no pictures, but I'm not touching my phone or my SLR camera with brake fluid on my fingers!
  6. OH...BTW, how does one take the electrical connector off? The book says "remove electrical connector". Guess I'll keep playing around.....always something!
  7. Thanks to @KIC, I had no problems bleeding the clutch system. Adding new fluid and flushed out the old. Really easy....just takes time. I even cleaned out the master cylinder too! Then I really got smart....decided to check the teeny hole in the MC. Hmmm...plugged up. No squirts or anything coming up when handle squeezed. So took out my trusty high "E" string and pushed it through the hole....got it! Then I got really, really smart. With the wire still in the teeny hole...I reached up and grabbed the clutch handle and pulled. Sigh. Now E string is stuck in cylinder and cylinder will not release. Do not ask me why I did that.....cause this kid is clueless.... Guess now I have to take the MC apart....sigh. Word to the wise...don't do this at home.....it's dumb!
  8. KIC and I were yapping this afternoon. I was curious if anyone knows how the damper works on the rear shock? I'm thinking it's nothing more than changing an orifice internal to the shock that controls the amount of fluid flow..... via an external flexible cable to the 4 position knob on on lower left side. It's that correct? Anyone know how it works and why the manual says don't change settings quickly, rather supposed to go up one setting at a time?? Thanks!
  9. Getting back to the subject on hand... For national meets, I would say the center didn't matter. What matters is when Orlin and people like him volunteer to hold those meets. That said, the lower 48 should be considered... Putting Kansas or near there, the ideal place for the national USA meets. The International should be just that. We have enough members in Europe area that could hold a meet...... Or, do away with the word "International", and just have regional meets; USA, Europe, Asia...etc. Don, why the discussion? What's the reasoning behind bringing this up? Looking for opinions, thinking change????
  10. Come on down! There's plenty of room! I'll leave the light on for ya!
  11. ....you guys had it rough. I only had to walk 3 miles up hill both ways to school! I do love winter and snow, but had a very hard time in 2013 living on Newcastle Island in New Hampshire. It wasn't the cold, snow, or ice that got me, it was being cooped up for the winter! Guess after 40 years of Arizona, i was used to going out and playing 24/7/365. I couldn't go out and work on boat, it was under six feet of snow. The scoot was in a storage unit...I would visit it and sigh. Nope, didn't like that at all. So moved back. It's true, you can't go home again.... So.... Do enjoy your winter.... And I'll munch on hot dogs with rum ball chasers sitting on my back patio... Deciding which scoot to ride tomorrow...
  12. Next question: Will this fit an RSV headlight as well?
  13. Reminder to all us lop eared varmints: Cowpuc should be chasing Venture parts and tweaking nurses about this time... As per his post above. Thought maybe we should renew thoughts and Prayers for Cowpuc and Tippy..... Prayers Up, Scott!
  14. So.... How does it work??
  15. Probably!!! Thanks, James! Good to see you and spend time chatting and catching up. Looking forward to a Spring ride! And until then, Safe Travels!!! (Meanwhile, maybe put a turbo on my second gen, then a Vmax rear end.....hmmmm ) Grins....
  16. Well done! Wish I could do that. Really adds a nice look.
  17. I stopped cable five years ago after repeated conversations with them about upping my bill. They wouldn't stop so I left. Only have internet and OTA tv. Large antenna on roof gets free tv from 47 miles away. No home phone either.. Cut that out and went cell only. Just not worth it.....
  18. Wishing all a Happy and Healthy New Year!! Now get out and ride... Safely! david
  19. Ugh.Looks deliberate. Sorry to see that! Glad UPS took care of it in a timely manner.
  20. Walther pk380. Doesn't like white box winchesters, but everything else runs through nicely...
  21. Welcome,Dave. Lots of posts on lowering front end. Pictures as well. I've done it twice now, as I didn't go far enough first time. When I got a leaking shock, I went ahead and lowered front a tad more. Relatively easy.
  22. I wrote and produced a Christmas Radio Special in 1971 that was broadcast all over Europe on the American Forces Radio Network. I was stationed in Turkey at the time. Was about the customs and legends of Christmas. I learned quite a bit researching the show!! Now, I just barely get finished carving the Thanksgiving turkey, and I find I'm late on getting out my Christmas cards.....again!! Who put the clock on fast forward?? Do enjoy the Holidays, they just come and go way to quickly anymore. Yikes, gotta hit the sack. I think I just heard Santa.... Night all.. Merry Christmas...
