  1. And that is why I haven't given up on a new Venture from Yamaha. It's not due for another year. From what I remember about the Japanese, a small team worked on specific items. They took their time researching market, testing, etc.. i worked with Hitachi on their broadcast cameras for a year. A very small team, one young man with my small company and a small group in LA, were responsible for the United States version of their best camera. We tested, made changes, got a new version, tested, etc. Changes were sent to Japan, a new version was sent back for testing. It was an interesting way to make a product. Because they listened to us guys in the field using their cameras!! I was under an NDA for a year... But got to use the very latest $40k camera. So is Yamaha works the same, they have a small team working on the Venture, with an even smaller team testing in the US. So I don't expect anything for a while yet. But who knows? If the spy pics showing two bikes taken a while back are the new Ventures, and they sure look like Yamaha parts on them, the new scoot may come out this year. But that would be early in my thinking. The other side of all this is... If the company changes their mind before they gear up to run the manufacturing line, very little $$ is lost in the process. So a shut down could come at any time... And I would be ok with a VTwin version as long as it's liquid cooled and shaft driven. The V4 is fantastic, but expensive to build. A VTwin has more appeal, more torque and far easier to build and repair. Just sayin....

  3. Hi John, Welcome to our zoo! I don't have a trike yet....operative word..."yet". but do plan on it in future when I don't think I can handle the bikes on 2 wheels anymore. As Craig mentioned, we have trike members, so sing out with all questions you have. There's no such thing as a silly question. Also, know that you can search our various forums for all kinds of info. And again.... Welcome!!

  5. Oopsies. You are right. I was confusing the second gen clutch and front brakes systems. Bad boy!!!
  6. I think Puc may be on to something. By quickly changing dampening, that could be why we have a high failure rate on the shock. Thinking through Puc's answer.... By rotating the dampening ring too quickly enough time, damage is done to the metering system.... And if it's the gas end... Then that extra pressure could damage the oil seals prematurely. Bottom line... Leaks. Well..? Is fun to think about, for sure.
  7. Hi Jeff. I believe he did find the teeny hole as he mentions using a high E guitar string to clean/clear the hole. That is what I use. I'll mention there is an easy way to see if hole is open. With top of MC off, gently, gently squeeze lever.... You should see a ripple of fluid on the surface of the fluid. Indicating the hole is open. Squeeze to hard and a jet of fluid will fountain up in air and all over bike and you. Easy test..... I like your thinking about tracking down the problem. I'm wondering... Could the spring on the pedal be weak enough to let the pedal put continuous pressure on system? I wouldn't think it could do that but.....
  8. I have two Stebel horns...one on my 05 RSV and the other on my 89 VR. One is 1 years old, the other is 3 years old. Ran a relay to them with 12 volts to battery. Works great. Loud and no issues!

  10. Don't forget to lower the front end (move fork tubes up in the trees) if you still have her apart. About 1 inch works well.... Handles better and doesn't sacrifice ride or cornering.

  12. I've been lurking on this thread. Thanks for the info. I'm still leaning toward a Class C MH. Like Class A's better, but not willing to spend the xtra bux. A simple Class C on a Ford 350 chassis with V10....around 24'.....would fit our needs. And still allow us to tow our sailboat or a trailer for the bike. BUT....still in thinking stage. Need to re-roof my house, etc., before we take off and play! Thanks for the conversation...I'm here with ears wide open...

  15. OK...you got me wondering. Why so much work? You planning on other works besides forks? When I rebuilt my forks, I simply dropped them out...leaving most of the front end intact...including the inner fairing. Curious....? david

The docs told me it's happens to young men, thin and active....especially if they live at high altitudes, (I did at time and was thin and very active). No reason given but thankfully mine came back on it's own... Never happened again, but I moved out of Denver not to long afterwards. david
  18. Regarding cheap led lights.... I've found the non-indexed type may not work due to polarity issues. Just pop them out and reverse them and that usually solves the problem.

  23. Hi Rodney, Thought I would jump in here as you are maybe a month away from departure. New Mexico has some beautiful roads to ride in, so does Arizona, but both are desert states which require some careful planning in the winter. February NM temps hover around freezing at night, as does AZ. Deserts do get cold at night, even in spring! Even during the day, the deserts of NM can be down right chilly to ride. March is better, but no cigar. Not trying to rain on your parade, just being honest. Its the elevation of the NM deserts that gives the more extreme temps. Similar to the Indian Lands in nothern AZ. That said, come on down as south as you can before riding. You might wanrt to drive van to Phoenix area before you park it. Ride to Sun City, AJ and around AZ first...then load up...drive to NM and unload and ride that state near the end of your trip when NM will be a tad warmer. In fact, if you can wait until March to start your drive down...you can then ride both states in their entirety , except for some mountain areas, and have great weather! Call me when you get closer and I can help you with itinerary. I don't have a place for you to store truck while you ride, otherwise I would offer that. My HOA is finicky about that stuff! Text me before you call so I can be ready to answer questions. OH..buy a propane Buddy heater...the midddle size. About $90. Works great on low to knock the chill off and the small bottles can be found in WaMart cheap. I use one on my sailboat for winter sails and it does a good job. Only need it at night and morning for a few minutes. Any sporting goods store should have them. And bring a small spray bottle with soapy water to test for leaks on stove and or heater. Later, david
  24. Update: Sorry Carl.....89 VR Mk2 The switch comes out easy...if you pay attention to detail. Which I didn't. A special tool probably would help but basically, depress two solid tabs...or better yet...squeeze the alternative sides of the plastic and it pulls apart. I went slow so when the spring popped out, I caught it before it took off to parts unknown. While apart, I cleaned the switch...dirty! The master Cylinder needed to come apart. I pushed it apart from clutch end as I simply couldn't get my clip tool in to undo the clip holding everything together. Dirty mess inside! Cleaned everything with brake cleaner, then took out my gun cleaning kit and used the 2nd to largest swab and tools to clean the bore. Going back together...used the parts diagram and only made one mistake. The tiny shaft that is between the clutch handle and the piston was reversed. A quick look at the diagram and pulled handle off and swapped the little push rod ends. Back together. Has a slight leak from handle side but it stopped after I got some pressure in the system. I must assume the seal didn't want to work until the air got out. BTW, here the vacuum pump worked wonders to get the air out. But pumping the handle and bleeding the old fashioned way was darn fast once we got some firmness to the handle. Clutch works again. Another lesson learned about these bikes. They really aren't hard to work on, once you figure out the engineers' humor. Much like British sports cars.....except the British have a slightly off-center way of designing cars! The Japanese are logical in their own way... Yay! Sorry about no pictures, but I'm not touching my phone or my SLR camera with brake fluid on my fingers!
