  1. I like the 303... Especially the northern part. I'm leaving the 89 VR here in phx for a while so we have time to get together. Going to try for a ride with a buddy on his HD Ultra on Monday or Tuesday depending upon weather.
  2. I was four years active and three years inactive..... I think my 214 shows "Hon" as to type of discharge... abreviation.
  3. Second gen on US 60, Superstition freeway near eastern end. 3 bikes got off Ironwood exit (think), and as I passed them, saw one was a second gen. I honked and waved. Got a double take from owner. I was on the Blue Beastie....1st gen. Coming back up from Green Valley after to down yesterday on VStar. Wonder if it's of us?
  4. Everclear? Oh my! Haven't seen that since I left Arizona in 1970 to go overseas. Love those Hairy Buffalo parties we used to have! Everclear was primary ingredient.... Good memories!
  5. What does your DD214 say on it? That should tell you.....active time served, total time served and type of discharge. Mine does...I served from 69-73.
  6. I have no idea if this will help since most of the discussion is about the 2nd gens. But since they are the same engines, I thought maybe you might get some ideas... There are some links you might be able to follow to help guide you in your tach installation. If they are broken, you can ask to see if Don can re-connect them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?85267-Barons-Tach-Install-Wiring&highlight=tachs
  7. How do we prove? Good question, Bob. Especially after the fire many moons ago at the storage place where some of our records were lost. I would "assume", they should at least have a microfische (sp?) of our DD214's. But from what I've read and from my friends who still use the facilities....Costco is a better choice for stereo's and TV's and such. In other words, most of my retired friends don't use the facilities near them for much anymore. BUT, it still good to see this finally come to pass. Congress has taken so much away from us vets, especially health care, it's about time we got a little bit back. I'm waiting....
  8. Senor Owl, From Sunny Arizona...Pat and I wish you a speedy recovery! Prayers Up!! david
  9. From Phoenix to Green Valley, VIA the Pinal Pioneer Parkway. The backway for us locals. Rt 79. Past the Superstition Mountains and RV parks, wondering if Rodney @rbig1 and his truck and RSV are anywhere near by. Stopped at Tom Mix's monument and also to grab a quick pic of the snow on Mt Lemon. I do like this road...much nicer ride than the interstate, for sure. VStar 950 Tourer. Snow from rt 79....near Oracle Junction. Cool breeze, warm sun. 51 mpg at 65mph! I do like this ride!
  10. Rodney, I'm in Phoenix this week. Have to take VStar 950 Tourer back to Green Valley on Tuesday. Then riding 89 Venture back up to midtown Phoenix on Thursday. Trying to meet with @VanRiver who is here this week as well. Probably a lunch ride Friday or Saturday. So let's get together...! My contact info is on site here. David P.S. will probably take rt 60 to Tucson Tuesday around noon time. Plan on leaving phx around 11am.. Heading out to rt 60.. East past Superstitions..... May come back same way... On 89 Venture.
  11. Prayers Up, Snaggie!
  12. Greg,Sorry I'm late to your party! I found a tip on this site somewhere and it worked very well for me. Simply rotate joint until it's orientated vertically. IE, the splined hole for the shaft is sitting in the center of the shaft tunnel and pointing slightly down in tunnel. Then insert shaft, keeping the front tip of shaft resting on tunnel and in center. The shaft tip will slip right in... Lifting up the ujoint end as it goes. My drive shaft was broken when I got the 89.... And I didn't know it. So this to was a godsend for me, as I was in and out a few times trying to figure out what was wrong! I also cleaned the tunnel first as best as I could reach. Thanks for video! PS. I still love the color of your scoot!!
  13. Let us know how it works for you. I'm curious! My Sony is long in the tooth...
  14. Yea, me too! I still have non-powered sub in my house! Jay, I like the Yamaha. It's connections are good for my legacy gear, it's sound field technology is impressive for it's cost and it's future forward tech, like the bluetooth and casting is well thought out. Of course....it's a Yamaha! That does mean something to me.....as a company...they do good work in everything they get in to.
  15. Excellent choice. Having spent the past 40 plus years in film, video and still production...that would be the way I would go, as well. The popular competitor can't offer anything close to the feature set unless you get their $4K model. Enjoy!
  16. Businesses have to make tough decisions sometimes....that wasn't a good one. There are other avenues available....depending upon the state. Well....I'm glad to hear your bro is cancer free!
  17. I'm inclined to agree. A dead cell or weak cell in the battery fits your problem pretty closely...
  18. Prayers & Condolences to Rick and family. Prayers UP!
  19. Totally agree with Bob. You need to break down what you want to keep and what you don't want to keep. Put it in groups, like "Safety", Lights, Engine, Charging, etc. If you don't care about safety, then disable the safeguards on starting engine with kickstand, clutch switch, etc.. If you don't care for the suspension, lose the CLASS system and all it's stuff. Same with cruise control...lots of stuff there to drop off. Point being, once you've done that, the rest becomes easy. IE, once you've broken down what systems you want to keep, then you can safely do away with most of the rest you don't want. I say "most", because some things are inter-related. Some share same circuit...so you will need to only trim off the part of the circuit that connects directly to that which you are taking off. Once all the above has been done....and the bike is stripped down electrically, then you can test for everything else working. If good, now you can start trimming down the excess wires you left on for the "just in case" scenarios. Suggest first; you make your own wish list...then when you think that's pretty well sorted, make a circuit diagram. Nothing special here, just point to what you want and how you feel it should go together to minimize what you don't want. Do remember to keep a few things available, like extra wire lengths (even an inch helps) if you decide to change your mind later on. Take your wiring diagram and compare with Yamaha's....see where you need to cut and so forth. Then...grab your cable cutters and go have fun! I'm not as familiar as others here, but if you keep us up to date with your progress, I'll chip in where I feel I can help.
  20. If you haven't done anything on your pillow seat yet, I would recommend you contact Rick Butler and tell him your problem. I would bet he would be willing to rebuild your seat to help you sit in the pocket better...
  21. Very unusual winter down South as well. Might hit high 70's low 80's end of week. Normally in 60's. Went for a ride today and was sweating...wrong jacket. Not trying to , but I do prefer somewhat cooler weather for winter riding.....
  22. Be vewy, vewy careful using this kit. I used one of the "philips" bits and with very little force, it sheered off. Thankfully, I bought the kit for use with the 1st Gen carbs.....once I'm done tinkering with them, I'll put in some hex bolts/screws or whatever ya call those critters.
  23. Stunning! I'm following along like a puppy following my master. Rt 175 is amazing! Thank you....
