Yea....gotta find the right place though. It seems the bottom of the frame near the rear is at different levels from left and right. Guess to make room for something. So blocking up both sides evenly won't work. Gotta find a way to change that around.....I'm going to be cranking 110 foot pounds of torque on the axle nut off and on. Don't want scoot to tip over while I'm struggling with that. Thanks guys....

Shinko 777 Tires
videoarizona replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just ordered a 777HD for the VStar. Rear. If I can figure out a way to block the scoot so I can pick it up on the lift...I'll be able to get the tire changed. Then I can let you'all know if I like it. -
Yea it does.....check this part out...there is an outer vent control....has an electrical connector. Has something to do with the california crap.... http://www.countlessbargains.com/venture/1986_1987_XVZ13D_S_SC_T_TC.PDF #14 on the parts list. Wonder if it has something to do with controlling the venting/vacuum or however the system works. Last...I'm wondering if you can take that whole darn thing off! At least that way you can eliminate it from your list of suspects... Sure looks like a fuel pump though....! Wonder if that's the outer vent control??? Page B10... pg 22

Image 0690, right side pic......the brass thing looks like a fuel pump to me. One side is connected to something and the other spicket is wide open. Nothing connected to it. I say it "looks" like a fuel pump because our pumps are brass on the middle with a black end where the two hoses connect...one in from filter/tank the other out to the main fuel line that goes to all four carbs. There may even be a vent line to the side...don't remember. The top has a black plastic case with wires coming out of it. That is where the fuel pump points are located. So why is one side of the fuel pump (if it is that) not connected? And...why is the fuel pump there? isn't a first gen pump located down on the lower left part of the frame by the passenger foot rest??? An extra pump? Relocated? Am I nuts? (that is debateable but another story!!) @cowpuc you see what I see?

I have the 950 Tourer and need to put a new rear tire on her. I know some of you have had this bike before and may still...so I'm asking: Where do you position the lift underneath? I looked under there and have tried, but can't seem to get a good position for a simple lift!! So what am I doing wrong here?? TIA, david Must be me but I'm just not seeing where I can get both lift arms underneath...either bike is to wide??? or ??? Works fine on both Ventures...

I quit cold turkey in 1986...when my 4 year old complained to me about the smell....and I ran out of packs on the day before I should have. Was easy to do since I was mad enough! That's all it took for me. Go for it my friend. You will be much happier (and have more bux in pocket too) in the long run.

New brakes?
videoarizona replied to Homiachok's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Welcome to the nuthouse! In addition to above: Drain and put in new brake fluid in brakes and clutch masters and systems. All use Dot 3. Get vacuum bleeder from Harbor Freight. Easier to bleed. Note there is a bleeder just below steering stem, if memory serves. That bleeder is between rear brake and left front... which are linked. Right front is on right handlebar. Bleed rear first, then middle then left front. Note also rear master resevoir does not have a sight glass and the neck can break off if nut is frozen. Use WD to soak nut. Proper level is just below threads. Used rotors can be found on Ebay. Your bike is a 1st generation, Mk2. Most parts from 86-91 will fit. Pull plugs and throw. I would also get new spark plug wire set. They are resistor wire sets and can be found on E bay as well. 5k ohm sets. Clean all electrical connectors, put back together, then coat with dialectric grease to keep moisture out. On lower left by passenger pegs in frame area is a plug with three white wires. Take apart and look for burning. They are the charging wires from stator to regulator. If they get dirty, they get hot and can burn or melt. Keep clean and you are good to go. E4 error is a simple fix on the CLASS system. Take apart computer and resolder the larger solder joints and white connector goes into board. Pics and write ups in 1st gen tech section. Download a copy of shop manual from this site. Again, welcome! You have picked up one of the finest handling scoots around. Once you have gone over your bike and got it all sorted out, you will be pleasantly surprised at how fast it is and how comfortable for long rides! david -

'08 RSTD fuel warning
videoarizona replied to Dragonscout's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I used to use Sta-Bil on my outboards. But after this past year... where I had to rebuild both carbs on both motors.... No more. It's simply not good enough for long term use. The crap gas obviously does a better job of fouling my carbs than Sta-bil does in protecting them! -
Interesting! I'm right hand yet i find slow left turns easier than right!!

Shinko 777 Tires
videoarizona replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I love Tourmaster 230's on my 89 Venture. After two years they still look and ride great!. Don't know the miles, I just ride. Since the 230's have been so nice to me on VR, I'm going to put a 777 on the rear of the Vstar 950t. -
All the above. Slip clutch, throttle on, pressure on rear brake, turn head and look where you want to go. That's the technique. Rest is practice. Oh..keep feets on pegs!!

Sorry to hear about your brother! Helmets. I would read up on as many helmet tests as you can find. Go to cycle gear dot com and read up on the different brands... Especially the readers reviews and comments. If there is a Cycle Gear near you... Call and see if they have one that may interest you on the shelf. If so, go and wear it around for an hour. Bring a book... Sit and read. See how your head feels. Fit is primary on any helmet but more so, I feel, on a full face. You can get an idea about noise protection by the amount of store noise you can/ can't hear. As far as noise..... In theory the more $$ you spend on a helmet, the quieter. Not necessarily so. If you get a good fit, then cheap foam earplugs are your best bet, seriously. I now have tinnitus and severe hearing loss because I didn't wear ear protection. I wear plugs now! Good luck and let us know what you find. Many of us are still looking for a good helmet that is quiet too. My Sedici is better than my scorpion... But neither I would wear without ear plugs.

Rodney, did you ride or drive to Sedona?

AAFES (online) to be open to all honorably discharged vets
videoarizona replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Watering Hole
I've given up trying to get in. By the time I realized I really should sign up, it was real tight here in Phoenix. Even with an advocate, it seems there are too many vets more qualified than me. That's OK, though. They need and deserve it more than I. -
Conundrum...
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ah,man...I was happy with the previous thoughts. Regardless. I believe it's just older gaskets and O rings and not dangerous... Just an annoyance. Extreme temp differences within short periods of time, which we get in Arizona, will cause this problem with older parts. I'm going to consider it a positive.... My 89 is talking back to me!
