  1. Hmmm... Not my problem then. I think mine is due to having about 70k on the tires. They still show very good tread... But I'm going for new again this Fall.
  2. Congrats! What was the Tahoe weave problem/ solution. I have a Yukon xl and same issue.....
  3. Glad to hear "Genesis" is running sweetly! I went out today in Phoenix to see why I lost my clutch on 89 last week. It's is hot out there. Clutch was working again.. So mystery is upon me.
  4. CMCOFFEY is certifiably nuts to be out in this weather but then, so is VanRiver. He left Calgary earlier in the week and is currently screaming down I-15 getting closer to Las Vegas....hoping to be at his Phoenix home by later this evening. He's riding "Old Walt", a Venture Royale. Says Walt is doing well...holding a nice smooth 80 mph on cruise! Very interesting story about Old Walt.... God Bless you both for zipping around in this heat! I certainly can't handle it anymore! :biker: Ride safe!
  5. You are certifiably nuts, Sir CMCOFFEY! This week will go down on record books across the southwest for record heat and you want to ride in it? YIKES! Grins! Well..if you are zinging through the Tucson area of Arizona...give me a shout. I can try to meet you somewhere....but not on a scoot unless it's early am! david PS. Congrats on getting the 84 back on the road!
  6. Our prayers from my family to yours! God Bless!

  8. First, I wouldn't think of pulling coils yet. Just look at the wires for corrosion. Pull plug wires one at a time and check ends for green corrosion. Swapping 2&4 wires is good idea. Take apart parts bike TCI and look over the circuit board and connectors. Research tci's here on forum and look at pics of bad boards... Familiarize yourself with bad parts so when you pull yours you can know if it's good. You could also make any repairs on parts tci so you know you have a good spare. Do only one thing at a time then test. You will figure this out. Just need patience and persistence.
  9. Suggestion: Pull your TCI out. Various threads show how to get it out and move it to top of air cleaner. Take it apart and check the diodes that are connected to the output for each cylinder. Also check the connectors for corrosion. Lots of pics and info on this... On the site. Spark issues can only be bad wires, coils, plugs or TCI issues... That includes corrosion on wires to coils and TCI. Simple to trace down... And a visual inspection of each stage is usually all that's necessary to find the problem. Corrosion kills ignitions.
  10. Here is another view! No Harley here... Here it is next to an HD Ultra Classic Picture taken up on the Mogollon Rim about 100 miles NE of Phoenix....
  11. Not only are you doing 100kph on a nice road, but you are playing tunes on the cassette! Cool! I put the fairing back together this morning after letting JB Weld cure a speaker problem on the RSV. Then patted her nose and went inside to clean house. Company coming for daddy's day.
  12. My VStar 950 Tourer weighs in at 650lbs and is easy peesy to roll around town. Plus it cruises all day at 75-80. Gets buzzy up there but it's a high rpm V Twin...that goes like heck. The only downside is it's easy to scrape the floorboards on the twisties. But...since I cruise with it, doesn't bother me at all. Plus, Yamaha put replaceable inserts on the bottom that throw off nice sparks at night! I recommend it. If you are looking for a bike that is excellent around town as well as cruising light distances (I go 150-200 miles between Tucson/Phoenix/Payson at a stretch)...I don't think there's a better scoot out there...I've never met an easier bike to handle. I've been exploring the idea of selling mine as I have 3 scoots...but really do enjoy riding it! Regarding a new bike. Sigh. I love riding the 1st Gen. It's fast, comfortable and handles like a dream. I thoroughly enjoy riding the 2nd Gen. It's quiet, very comfortable and loves eating up the miles. And the 950T...it's my go-to bike for daily zinging around southern Arizona. Need milk, hop on the 950. Want to go visit the mountains nearby...hop on the 950. At 50mpg, I can do whatever I want and it costs me zip. So I have a conundrum here. Do I sell 2 out of 3 and get the new Yamaha? If so, which one do I keep? Until I have the answer to that question...I guess no new bike for me.
  13. I was just looking at the parts fische. Looks like a 4 piston unit. If so Cowboy, I would recommend you look into a single piston from a Road Star (?) or a 2 piston from another bike...R1 or R6 ??? Others know more than I. I'm looking into replacing my rear caliper on my RSV as I think Mom Yamaha put way to much caliper on the rear...having experienced a rear lock up that almost put me away. So if anyone has done this both Cowboy and myself could use some help here...
  14. Jeff, If you do want to offer this kit to the masses (us)...then you need to take into account the 2nd gen gas tank partially covers the diaphrams on the carbs....IE... need a right angle injector or plenum for each carb. Wonder if this might be a good time to mention two injectors on a throttle body deep in the "V" where the carbs now sit, feeding 2 carbs each, may be a lot easier...or whatever it takes for our V4's. But thinking vertical here... Here is a pic of my finger stuck in the small space between the carb cover and the bottom edge of the gas tank.
  15. Final report, hopefully. She runs. Have no clue what I did yesterday in my taping up everything I could find that might cause a problem. But I must have caught the culprit. Ran 20 miles this morning. On the access roads that are really bumpy to the freeway at 75 with cruise. No hiccups. So, apologies...I can't say what was causing the problem. Nothing really stood out for shorts, crimped or broken insulation at any wires. There were some questionable but if I didn't have the problem, I wouldn't have taped them to begin with. Crossing fingers this problem is history.... Now off to store to buy some fast curing JB Weld. Seems I broke a speaker lead off the speaker in the left front while I was pushing, shoving and yanking on wires yesterday. Little phenolic board broke right off speaker frame. Makes me wonder what else I did? Grins! Guess I WILL find out!
  16. Maybe not.... Back in the 60's and early 70's Harley was the king of racing at Daytona and over venues. They and Honda had every category sewed up. Along comes this relatively new manufacturer, Yamaha, with its 2 cycle 250's and started to actually finish the races. Within a few years, they had out engineered Harley, Honda and the rest who laughed at 2 cycles and said there is no way you can achieve horsepower without sacrificing longevity. Back in those days, anyone running a 2 cycle would have to rebuild engine after each race...if they made it through the race to begin with. Yamaha did as well. BUT...they learned....and like I said...within a few years they not only had solved the heat problem but the scavaging problem and the spark problems with the high latency issues. The rest is history. Yamaha took the 250 and 350 classes against all 4 cycle comers and whupped them bad. They led the way for 2 cycles to come into mainstream USA as well...with well thought out manufacturing processes that enabled them to sell their bikes at a lower price point than Honda or Harley, putting them in the back seat for sales. Honda woke up first, but still stuck with 4 cycles. I remember running rings around Hondas and their ilk with my YDS6C Yamaha. Our beloved V4 is another case in point. Look at the engineering in that engine. Has been able to run forever and still crank out almost 200 hp! Granted it has slightly different innards, but the point remains...it's well engineered. My money is on Yamaha. I'm betting they have figured out a way to keep our legs cooler with air flow (they say they have) just as they have figured out a way to keep the motor cool by using the oil more efficiently. I haven't heard that Yamaha has a "Parade Mode" on the new Venture....so....
  17. Waiting for more....
  18. I believe it's all stock....like my 89. Radio, tape, cb, intercom, auto volume, CLASS system with compressor for suspension, 4 way emergency flashers, and so forth. Really well equipt scoots for their days...
  19. Gary, I thought I did. I'll go back out and look around again! Thanks. Update: Went out and looked over the neck area again. Nothing stands out as looking like it's rubbing. Did another walk through everything from front to back. Found one little wire from LED right side rear...marker light conversion...that "might" have been crimped by the right side panel covering the relays. I put some tape around it...taped it again along it's length then put some epoxy/tape on edge of panel. Since this is the lower end that I can't see, I'm ok with that as it's a tight fit between the edge of the panel and the wires. And the edge of the panel isn't dull by any means. It is now for about an inch! I also taped the wires hanging down from where I bypassed the right side horn to trigger the relay for the Stebel. The bunch were to close to the exhaust cover...and that's metal and hot. So they are tie tied up and taped. Bottom line: She's back together. As soon as sun goes down...I'll take a ride around neighborhood. We shall see....at least I got a chance to clean the insides better and check on nuts and bolts. Always a good reason to poke around on a scoot. OH...found my long lost seat bolt. It just fell out while I was taping the horn wires. Funny how far away that bolt was from the seat and never fell out in hundreds of miles of roads!! Maybe putting a lanyard on those bolts is a good idea afterall!!
  20. Jeff, Here ya go: Same signal fuse. 15 amp. Both sides.
  21. Update: Nothing. Nada. No joy. Can't for the life of me repeat yesterdays tracing that blew the signal fuse and the main fuse. I bought 2 circuit breakers, 15amp and 30 amp to replace the fuses so I could continue to trace. They self set after a few seconds when short goes away. Kinda cool actually. Saves me the time and trouble to sit my butt down and replace fuses.... So starting at the front: Checked out everything around the headlight where I was fumbling around with my hands installing the LED bulb. Even checked the speedo area...nothing. Then... checked the adapters to make sure I didn't screw that up while playing around with the headlight. All looks good here. Then... Checked the wiring around the 12 volt accessory outlet where PO had done some stuff. That was good as well as my power supply for XM. So... Moved on under the tank. Pulled out the ignition switch bypass relay and wiring. Looks good there too. But went ahead and taped wherever the brown wire went. Next...moved down to the battery area where I connected up the LED reflector lights and set myself up for towing a trailer with extra connectors...maybe someday. I also checked the battery connections, cleaned and tightened them up while I was there. Pulled everything out....taped up anything that even looked strange....but nothing blew the breakers despite my wiggling. This is where I was beating up yesterday and blew both fuses. Maybe I fixed that problem. Who knows? So moved on to the rear end... Looked everywhere. Checked my LED wiring, the LED tail strip, the bulbs in the tail signals, the brake light, the HD bracket run/stop lights. Nothing would short out the signal system. During all these tests, I left the ignition on with the emergency blinkers on to load up the signal system so I would know when the fuse blew. So came back to the main fuse area.... You can see the light colored circuit breaker in the signal fuse slot and to the right, the green thingie is the main circuit breaker in the main fuse slot. Wiggled and moved everything, including PO's wiring underneath and my plug and play wiring for the speedo correction circuit board...nothing. Frustrated as the signal system seems to be intact with no shorts. I really don't want to put her back together and go for a ride, only to have the signal fuse blow again...meaning I haven't found anything. Right now she runs for a long time in the garage with no fuse issues....just like when I was on the road. It was only when I got back on the road did the fuse blow. BUT...I've wiggled, jiggled and yanked on anything and everything I can see...including the horns down below. The only thing I haven't done is take apart the switches on the handlebars. I really don't think that's the problem as I only read about one person, after all these years, having a factory wire pinched in the handlebars.... so that is such a long shot....I'm leaving that out for now... So I'm asking the collective great minds....what have I missed? TIA... david
  22. Not to hijack this thread, but was getting ready to leave Phoenix yesterday and went out to clean up the 89 VR as I'm leaving her up there for mountain runs this summer. Started her up and let her run...as she hasn't been running in a week. Hopped on board, hit the clutch and shifted to 1st....clunk. No clutch! She's been sitting with bars over in locked position for a week. No leaks underneath except for the normal coolant pee when she comes up to Phoenix!! So when I come back, need to figure out what happened. Just rebuilt master last month. So Bill, I'll be paying attention to your clutch repairs....I might be next! BTW, I'm fairly certain the clutch system on my 89 is original.....
  23. Update: The above didn't fix the blowing fuse issue but did fix the LED marker light not working properly! Back in town and will dig in some more. Last week, I did retrace lots of connections, finding nothing. So guess I'll take the fairing off and start all over. I'm getting to be an expert at removing the front fairing....guess that's a good thing. Maybe I should add some driving lights too while I'm in there! I'll follow up when I get this sorted out....
  24. Yikes!! Glad you made it home ok. I'll be back in town Wednesday.... Available until Sunday pm. If you want some help, we can take it apart and see what's going on. Besides, i need a new right side muffler, mine is rusted out. Grins! Let me know...I can come up after dinner we well...
  25. That was fun! Wish they would have streamed that.....but thanks to Tippy for filming it for us! Good sport, my friend!
