Lewis, First, thank you for doing this. Second...come on people. I know the economy is not the best right now, and we all have problems we are dealing with, but surely you can spare $20 bux or so for the kids. That's not much, really! And more is so much better. So try and come up with some spare bux! And I wish I could be there. We are about to enter our prime riding season here in Arizona....and I'm itching for a long ride.... But I'm off to Portland to visit my sister for the last week in September. Again, thanks for doing this. Don't give up.....let's keep this going.

My rear has almost 10K on it and is about dead. Took the 05 RSV out this morning with gps...and the SpeedoDrd was dead on accurate from 30mph to 80mph. I wish I could remember my correction,. but think it was like a -7.3%. So that might fit in with the others coming in at -6.7%. I bet with new tires my speedo will be off a tiny bit. More rubber, larger diameter tire. I'll do the test again after I put on the Shinko 777HD's this Fall.

Agreed. Yamaha manned up to a problem instead of forcing it on us! The adult way to do business, in my opinion!

When I rode without a shield, the flip down clear helmet shield kept the rain out of eyes and the wind kept the rain from doing anything other than run right off the face shield. With the windshield, I do what puc does, hide. Even though I wear ATGATT, I still don't like riding in the rain. Visibility sucks, for sure. Glad I live out West...not many rain days around....

Freebird, I tucked mine up under the seat, under the rubber battery tie-down. (I pulled it out to show). The cable run also has plastic ties along frame. They gave me enough cable to do so. That way it is out of the weather. They still come with enough cable to do this? Plus note where my fuel filter is. Previous owner did that, and boy am I thankful for his forward thinking!

Agreed. Tires would be a factor. As well as mileage on the tires. I'm running stock size Pirelli Routes. I was hoping we can get a reasonable consensus on error. Be interesting what others say. I may check mine this week and see where I'm at on my 05 RSV.

And if you would, Don, please let us know what your correction ended up being, rear tire size, etc... It might be good to keep track of this to see if the speedo's are accurate (in their own way)!

Good. One of the pieces of advice I got was to overspray the clear coat nicely. It did work that way. I couldn't find my older post thread...but you can try and search using colorrite...maybe you'll have better luck. Lots of good advice on that thread.... The problem with Colorite is california has banned the type of paint that our older bikes were painted with. And their factory is in California...so guess what? The color you order is correct, but due to the different makeup of the chemicals to make the paint, the color is wrong. I went through this last year with colorite. Seriously! Your best bet is to go to a local shop and hand them the fairing. They can match. Then get their advice and do it yourself. I bought a tiny air gun from harbor freight, and the result came out quite good.... Though it took a couple of tries and lots of painting advice from this forum. Or let them do it. I had my 2nd gen fairing done by same guys that matched my 1st gens paint for me. $200 and a lifetime guarantee! Btw, the color pen from Colorite for my 2nd gen was a good match. Good enough for small rock chips. But I wouldn't want to try and match a fairing. The 1st gen was way off on both colors

No I don't, Dennis. Best thing for you is to find a unit that fits your needs and check to see if it takes "enc"type charts. That is the most common type that I've used. I know most of the downloadable software uses enc charts. But it may be a not point if you find a unit you really like and their own charts are reasonably priced. That would be the best way to go.

That's what I'm going to do when I get back to my bike. Up a touch so high beam reaches out better then right a touch to keep from blinding people coming my way. I initially had mine to high...the road wasn't that bright on low beam. Thanks for the pictures....Helps me see what these LEDs can do. I have the Broview.

You know, guys and gals...I've been doing a lot of thinking on this new Venture thing. Despite the lack of brain cells, I did stumble upon a conclusion last night. I think Yamaha did listen to us....here's my thinking: The 1st gen...everything was done right. Had the handling, all the doodads and was a nice comfortable tourer that would blow away any competition. They really thought the bike over when they designed her and built her. The 2nd gen came about because they realized they really needed a scoot that looked like the HD's that were selling like hotcakes. So they grabbed the best motor they had and built around that. They did leave out many doodads that the 1st gen had, but they were going for the HD crowd. Understandable that. But...it didn't work. It sure was comfortable though! Back to the drawing boards they went. They then looked at all the complaints for the 2nd gen, then looked at all the praises for the 1st gen. All of our desires/wants and wishes. Then, they looked at what was selling in the marketplace, from Indian, Victory and HD. And went to work to incorporate all the above. The result is what they built today. The Star Venture. A touring bike that has the heart of the V-Twin (and not just any V-Twin, but a Yamaha designed pushrod baby). It has the low end grunt better than the competition. It has the sound of the V-Twin. It has the appeal of the V-Twin with the durability only Yamaha is known for. Has the handling of the 1st gen, the fixed fairing of the 1st gen, all the doodads like the 1st Gen with the comfort of the 2nd gen. Done... My conclusion is...they named it right. It is a Venture. It has the best of both generations before it. With the marketability of the latest sales trends. That makes perfect sense to my feeble synapses. They nailed it. So in my book...a welcome for the 3rd Gen! The Star Venture.

I'm with Don on this. Get a dedicated chart plotter. They usually all can be used with depth sounder on a signal buss or even built-in. Get one that uses the free charts from NOAA in addition to their own. That way, they are easily downloaded and you can update when the charts are updated...for free. That's the optimum. At the very least, download a nav program for your phone that uses the same type charts. Don't use anything land based. it just doesn't cut it for sandbars and water traffic stuff... www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov Plus always download the latest notice to mariners for your area...as the situations change rapidly in the south...especially around the ICW and the river/ocean inlets where currents change markers/buoys and put sandbars in the weirdest places...just to catch the unwary! I was behind the wheel of a friend's 33 foot Hunter Cherobini sailboat...on the ICW... heading out from Clearwater Beach. Following the chart nicely when I saw one of the buoys was in a weird place. Thankfully, I asked my buddy if this was correct...he almost had a fit. Guess it was the 3rd time in the past 2 weeks the buoy had moved. If I had moved over, we would have run aground! The last thing I would recommend is download a printable explanation of the buoy system in the ICW. If you aren't used to it, it can get confusing as you transition from ocean to ICW rules. (Colregs demarcation) Otherwise, it's fun. Just watch out for the idiots on their $200K yachts going max speed in a slowdown zone....serious stupidity abounds at times!!
