Yikes! Glad you are ok!!! Prayers Up that you heal quickly and get back on another scoot!!
-
Finally got a scoot up to Phoenix. Now we can ride around Central Arizona during the winter. Sunday was our first for the season breakfast ride to Wickenburg. The Horseshoe Cafe. It's about a 100 mile round trip. I had the customary chicken fried steak and eggs. Beware of the pancakes. They use a special plate due to size! We always take a roundabout way to get there or back and this was no exception. Wickenburg to New River Rd from Lake Pleasant around past Carefree into Phoenix. I finally remembered to take a picture almost back into town. Pat, "V4" and I at a Coke stop. "V4" is this year's Elf companion. He has a cousin that will be riding the 89VR in southern Arizona over the Holidays. I'll leave the 05 RSV in Phoenix. I will try to be more dilligent when it comes to taking pictures since your riding season is ending and you like to see riding pictures while the flurries fly.

Ever wonder why motorcycle insurance costs so much?
videoarizona replied to baylensman's topic in Watering Hole
OK...I put the video into the edit system computer and did a frame by frame analysis. If the video had been better quality, I could have blown it up then posted the frame by frame results. But as it is, it's to grainy to really see anything at that blown up point. I do believe @cowpuc is right. The 2nd rider "appears" to not be looking back but rather looking forward and to the right. Looks like he was looking for a place to pull over and deliberately moved off the road at an acute angle. At that point, the mystery remains. Why did he turn off at such a sharp angle? Did he not see the drop off from the pavement to the softer dirt? Did he think he could turn off then make a hard left and park parallel to the roadway? Was he thinking about hot dogs and not about his partner on the back? That my edit system can't tell me. Sigh. Once the scoot's weight was committed, the rest was history.... -

:sign yeah that: Totally agree. He was watching his buddy go down and he went right where he was looking...off the road. And with no shoulder to speak of, nothing to support his feet...down he went. -
Spaghetti and Meatballs with my good friend VideoArizona
videoarizona replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
Ah man....ya got me. As we left the table, I remarked that I didn't get any stains on my shirt... Well.. When I got home...I found one. Sigh. The stain is there, cowpuc, just can't see it! Ah.... but that was a good lunch....!! Next ride...Roundup in New River! I need to introduce VanRiver to all the little hideouts in Arizona! -

Ah, good pasta with a good friend! It was my pleasure @VanRiver! I do enjoy our get togethers. Can't wait until we can take a run up north to the mountains of Arizona! We do have some "green" in this state! Thanks for lunch, James. See you again soon! -
Yeppers, Saw Yamaha was marketing commuter type dual front wheel scooters in Phillipines a few years back. They do look and ride well from what I remember reading. For a while I was thinking of getting one of those front ends for the RSV...but...not sure I could take the ribbing from my riding buds...! https://www.tiltingmotorworks.com/

For me, the problem is more along the line of not wanting to go back into debt just to get a new bike. Nor a new truck...etc. I look at my life expectancy then look at the loan terms and shake my head. Don't want my estate (kids) dealing with that nonsense. If I was younger, I would jump on a New Venture and ride. But not now. I've worked hard to get rid of house payments, credit card crap and such. Yea, we do want a MH or travel trailer, but I'm trying to do this without going into hock for more than a year or two. If I can't, then guess we will either rent or give up the idea. I want to enjoy these last years without worries....at least the financial ones!! I know the other side of the coin...spend, spend, spend...who cares what happens after you are gone! Guess I do. Note: I'm the spender in the family...you should see my better half! Yikes!

I have always worn a product from these guys. They are passive, have different size tips, are easy to clean, work very well and sound very good. The price is right as well. I use the foam non-speaker types (cheap) and can still hear the helmet speakers, but prefer the ear buds. Caveat: I don't know this particular model. Both of my ear buds are an older generation....so I don't know how far they stick out once properly inserted. If at all. My old ones will both sit snug next to my ear, making putting on the helmet easy with comfort for long day use. There are times though, when I don't get them in just right and after a while, I'll get pressure that will begin to hurt after an hour or so....by then, I stop, refuel, rest and put them back in better. I can't say enough about this company and it's service. Just wish they made motorcycle specific ear buds. https://www.etymotic.com/consumer/earphones/mc5.html This other company I haven't tried but there product is cheaper and you self-mold them to your ears with their material. It looks like they can be made by each person in a way that they would fit well and not protrude. I'm going to try them soon since my Etymotics are now over 10 years old! http://earfuze.com/ They make them for sports so maybe these would be better. Don't know about durability though. Be worth a shot, for sure! Hope this helps... ADD: Mine are the Etymotic ER-6i. If you can find a pair..they are the best.. https://www.cultofmac.com/97595/etymotic-er-6i-earphones-deserve-their-mythic-status-review/ UPDATE: @leroy had a link in his post below that led me to these: http://www.aerostich.com/clothing/visibility-protection/earplugs/etymotic-er20xs-high-fidelity-motorsports-ear-plug.html Says they are for helmet use. I ordered a pair. See how they work....

Searching for LED head light
videoarizona replied to Geobob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
see if this thread helps....there are others as well.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?129385-1st-Gen-LED-Headlight&highlight=bulb My bulbs I put in both of my Ventures are Broview, but with the braid for a heat sink, not a fan. Might not have enough room for a fan type bulb. Check bulb length. Bulb was easy install, the forum gang helped me jumper the RLU and modify the computer for LED's. -
Lost my drive train!
videoarizona replied to 86er's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Since the ujoint and rear end junctions are splined, even when the bolt snaps (as mine did), the system continues to work...just whines on decel. So that's out...I would think. Otherwise it would make a ton of noise and maybe lock up the rear end. No clue, unless the clutch system went away and is permanently disengaged??? What is under the clutch plates that would keep the clutches away from the driven plate? Interesting... -
Jay, That's a very nice looking rig! Congrats! I used to rent Class A's and take many vacations a year. But now, we can't seem to justify the cost or the size of one. So I was looking at Class C's. Same thing...the best deals are not here in Arizona, and traveling around the country to look at motorhomes seems a bit much for us. So now we are looking at travel trailers. Down to a Jayco Jay Flight 245 RLSW seems to be the best bet for my elderly Yukon XL to tow! Trying to just get my head out and do the deal and take her home! Now if I can only get over the envy of not having a Class A! Hope to meet you on the road with our rigs and the scoots! Hmmm...maybe we can have some meetups for those who have rigs and scoots! Hot dogs for all! Of course everyone would be invited....that goes without saying...!

Non bike related tech help wanted, Re: "GoPro"
videoarizona replied to luvmy40's topic in Watering Hole
Hmmm, I'm surprised the raw video isn't mp4? Quicktime MOV files are a form of Mp4 but with a different header...which is slower than the latest mp4 codec. But yes, you need a decent video card/processor combo to play HD movies. The newer 6th generation and up Intels do very well. I recently purchased a Dell i-5 from Costco for ($499) which isn't a fast machine but plays HD files easily. The raw file should not need to be rendered to play back on a newer type machine. Check your settings on the camera. I prefer shooting at 720P 30 Frames per second. It is real HD just like 1080I but far easier to handle. I like how 720 progressive plays motion so much better than 1080. 720p should be one of the choices on your camera's recording format. I'll even take 720p60fps before I take 1080. Check out the camera and try 720. Also, see if there is a codec for a straight mp4. Let me know what you find out and I'll see if I can help. -
oil leak or so it seams
videoarizona replied to Wingzz's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hi Clive, From my experience, I was getting air in the system of my clutch from the piston o ring leaking air into system and losing operation after a few days. Rebuild kit solved problem. Similar symptoms on his brake. The O ring was shot. That's what I was talking about. I agree the banjo junctions are a leak point, but rarely see them leak. -

videoarizona replied to Wingzz's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Take the master cylinder apart and look it over carefully. My bet is the rubber inside is shot and air is leaking into the system and it's losing it's "prime"! It's a very basic system, easy to work on. Rebuild kits are cheap.... -
> Now that wobble is very interesting. The clue is when you changed your position on the bike and the scoot straightened right up. There are numerous videos on you tube about bike oscillation. Older British films showing that happening. But these newer bikes are not as [/color]susceptible as the older ones. By changing your riding position, you changed the suspension geometry enough to stop the wobble. By instinct, you did the right thing. Check the rear bushings on the swing arm. If these are dry or worn, you can have this issue. I would also now confirm both wheels bearings are greased and in good shape as well as the steering head bearings are not loose. I'm going to recommend you do these things anyway, just to establish a service baseline. There are numerous posts here that describe how to do these things, and for the most part you can use both 1st gen and 2nd gen posts as the bikes are basically the same in terms of how they are put together. There are differences, but I've learned things in 1st gen posts that I applied to my 2nd gen too! Since I have one of each, it's a good knowledge base for me to search through both. As far as when you put the air pressure back up to normal on the front and the issue got worse, that is indicative of the tire problem. Avon's are good tires. Most here have had good results with them. But since you are running two different tread patterns, all bets are off. Probably a new set of tires is another good idea for you to consider. Again, set a service baseline for yourself. You really will like these bikes once you get yours sorted out. Hang in there. Oh.....when you are searching and reading, make sure you look at the older posts "recommended" below at the bottom of the post page. Sometimes you can follow a series of posts right to where you want to go. The software this site runs on is pretty darn good!

You should get better than that. I get 38 to 42...depending upon winds around here. Of course, it's lower when I'm smiling and right wrist is twisted..... Keep working through the bike...you'll get there.... -
Bike weight trade?
videoarizona replied to cruiserlover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It didn't vibrate...it buzzed!! Around 75mph. Feel it in your feet. V-Twin.... But it was a high revving motor...so 75 mph was nothing for it....around 4300 rpm. Red line was 7500rpm if memory serves. -
Bike weight trade?

Ron, Wish I had known...I would have been happy to sell her to you! Great scoots for sure... I do miss that bike....but couldn't afford to keep 3 scoots on the road....trying now to get down to just one. Sigh. In retrospect, I probably should have sold the 89 VR and kept the 950! -
That slight wander/ falling off a lip motion is the front tire. That's my educated guess! Some tires do it more than others, but all at times, will have an issue with tar snakes that grab the tire and wiggle it a bit. It is usually caused by tire pressure or wear issues. Some times by design of tread. The Pirelli's on my 05 RSV, I thought were great when new, but now, after about 8K miles, the front end really grabs the tar snake. It's only for a second but it's there now! I take it that's what you are thinking of? Plus it now wanders in the lane grooves. That wandering around in the lane can be the same thing, except caused by the wear on the road surface. Since most states and cities are letting roads go longer, there are now running grooves or depressions in the lanes where most car tires run. If you happen to be on that road surface, getting up on the edge of the depression will cause most tires to either ride up or down the edge. This will cause a wandering effect. Suggest a bit more riding (yay!) to narrow this down. She should track straight as an arrow with a 150 or a 130 front tire. The original front end geometry says so. Only external forces should force the bike off the straight and narrow. I'm going with the 130 to ease off on the low speed handling. I really didn't like having to push the bars around to turn. And then once the turn was initiated, having to pull back to hold the turn. Almost like if I let go in a turn, she would snap into the turn fast and knock me off. But that's the nature of the fat front tire and front geometry. Designed to go straight. OH...lowering the front end about an inch will help with low speed handling and may be the cause of those dimples on the shock cases. Check to see if the top of the shocks are even with the triple tree. If yes, then the shocks need help. If no, then the front end is lowered and a big pot hole caused the shocks to hit. Less fork travel when lowered. Yea, it could be the steering bearings are a tad loose, or the rear swing arm bushings might be worn or dry...but my bet is going to be the tires, front and rear. Last thought would be check oil level on front shocks. My 89 VR has Shinko 230 Tourmasters and they ride straight with no issues. The tires before hand, Metzeler 880's, ran great until they got some miles on them. Then they too got squirly as well as the rear chunking off chunks.

Bike weight trade?
videoarizona replied to cruiserlover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you want a cruiser, the VStar 950 Tourer gets 50 mpg's, has a 4.5 gallon tank and weighs 650 pounds. I found it to be a great cruiser if you changed out the seat. Needs a lot more padding. I added a Mustang seat, but it pushed me to far forward....not comfortable. I added Vance and Hines pipes, but my better half thought it was to loud on the road, so they came off as well. Rick Butler did my original seat and did a great job. Though he didn't like what little the factory had in here. I sold her last month stock with the exception of added lights and an extra large Clearview with vent...and some lowers. Both helped cut the turbulence one gets from a cruiser. Brakes, acceleration and handling were fantastic! It's a good stock bike to buy and customize. The only issue is check thoroughly to make sure the belt tension is not to tight. When rear tires are replaced, most dealers put the belt on to tight causing main drive bearing failure. I did my own. Taking the wheel off was "easy peasy". I recommend that scoot. Any questions, feel free to PM me....
