No...but my 89 has some dark spots on the corners of the displays. I figure that's old age on the panels....??

If you made leveling links, you might consider raising the front forks in the triple tree as well. About 1 inch makes a decent difference. It's easy, just time consuming. Good write-ups and pics in forum. This will lower the front end, changing the steering a bit...making it lighter and more responsive. Last, many of us have gone with a 130 front tire instead of the monster 150. Helps lighten the steering up a bit as well. Take pics, search the older posts and joinup! Best 12 bux you will spend! Good luck![/color]

Looks like I'm around for another year. At least, I'd better be! Only problem is this past year went by way to fast. BOSSMAN, can we slow the time down so my $12 lasts longer?? That way I get to enjoy my time here in "VR Land" longer....! Happy Holidays and looking forward to another year of fun, frolics, insane videos and great company! Thanks to all for the past year's adventure! david

GM in-car distraction systems, whether you want it or not.
videoarizona replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Watering Hole
I'm still good on GM. 1: They paid back the gov loan to the penny. 2: They make the only truck that has put up with me...towing sailboat thousands of miles without effort. Approaching 197K with all original except batteries, tires, oil and gas. Still getting 18 to 20 mpg's at 75mph. 12 to 14mpgs towing 2.5 ton boat, 3: I've had Fords, Dodges, Chryslers and none have come close to the dependability, quiet cabin, engineering as my 2004 Yukon XL SLT. I may be lucky, but I'm all for another Yukon. -

Well....I think I found the problem. The starter switch. The other day I went to start the scoot... Nothing. Hmmm. I know battery is good... So I rocked the kill switch...nada. OK. That leaves the starter switch. I rocked it back and forth, turned on key. Works! Turned off with kill switch. Tried again.... Had to rock starter switch then Vroom. I got this. Grab last can of Radio Shack contact cleaner and squirt around switch while rocking. Works good now! Dirty switch. On my next maintenance taking apart the switch and it's little pieces is now added to my list. Need to remember the baggie trick so I don't lose anything! That was interesting..... Guess I need to remind self this scoot was made in 89! It's ok for a switch to get dirty! -
Time for another ride from the SW! Took a breakfast ride yesterday to Wickenburg. Tried a new to us, place...Spurs Cafe. Tiny but friendly and good! Of course, we came out and a cowboy and his horse were walking by and stopped to say hi. I outnumbered him...98 horsepower to his 1, but he didn't mind one bit! Lots of horses and riders in town yesterday! Naturally, I forgot to get a pic of all of us together, but did finally remember at Cheryls house. Cheryl and Mark on his Ultra, Pat and I on the RSV with "V4" watching the rear. Beautiful day.... Low 70's, little wind.... Good food and good friends! Hope this helps...

CJ, Interesting thoughts: Check with AmQuack (daughter used to call them that), See if they still have the auto train from NE to Florida. Used to be you would take your car with you. Don't know if that is still running or how they handle cycles. Riding across the south. Good weather for the most part. Just remember that in the late afternoons it starts to get chilly in the southwest as deserts cool down naturally! IE, shorter riding days. During day expect 60's throughout the southwest. 40's to 50's at night except in low deserts and mountains...then down around freezing. In SE, watch for rain. The weather from Pacific Northwest comes down to the south and sweeps across country. Low fronts bring wind and rain. If they go north, they bring snow. Or...you could fly out west, rent a car or scoot and tour that way too! But remember the cool weather. We do get around freezing during the day at times in January!! So check long range forecasts... My bet would be Amtrak... -
What do you guys think of this?
videoarizona replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I never tried that....it should work. I have used the mp3 player plugged in that way and that worked fine. Regarding the tape deck eating the wire....yea... had that happen too, that's why I mentioned finding one with the cable on top or near the top. I got mine out. It was easy to take apart the deck. Very rugged unit, well built! -

videoarizona replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bought one for my 89 VR about 3 years ago. It works great. The only issue I had at first, was after I connected both ends of the cable, I had to find a position around the tape deck where the unit would sit and allow me to push the audio system back into place. The unit would get in the way as I pushed down. Solved by taping the unit to the tape deck on the left side... Also, remember that as long as you supply a signal on the wire....you will not have a tape deck or radio. This unit senses a signal from an external source and shuts off the radio allowing the external source play through just like a deck. Turning off your external audio source will allow the radio to work. BTW, the unit gets it power from the Yamaha system so no external power needed. Now for the bad news. You can try and contact them...but I think they were selling the last batch about a year ago. If you get the "no" response, you can search the older posts here as someone on this forum found a schematic of the audio pin out between the tape deck and the radio...and was able to figure out how to switch an external audio source into the system. Another approach: Edsets make a universal adapter that plugs in to the end of the headset cable and operates as a passthrough device if you wish to continue to use your helmet speakers or mic. It also has a 3.5 mm headset jack so you can plug in your favorite ear buds OR...use it as an aux input! It costs $65 but bought one to see how well it works...and it works great. You would want the 5pin to 5pin adapter. https://www.edsets.com/universal_adapter.php Last thought....the cheapest way to go is buy one of those cassette audio adapters. Get one with the external audio input on the top...then you can push the adapter cassette into the deck, plug your mp3 player or phone into the wire and listen. Good luck... -
Sorry to hear! Hope she got herself a nice car! Prayers Up...that she heals quickly!

Hi Tom, I re-directed the address of the sync board from Phx to my Green Valley home as I came down here unexpectedly. My sync board came in today. I want to thank you for the great job you did on making the sync board for me! Looks like a "PRO" did the work! I would say you are very good at building electronic stuff! Again, my thanks for your efforts! And if anyone wants an electronic digital sync board for their Ventures, I highly recommend Tom and his board! david

Jeff, Nothing at all...no starter, no click...dead. That's why I'm leaning to the kickstand. But I do agree the kill switch or turn over switch could do the same thing... BTW, still running well since then. No issues. -

Update: Still no clue. I'm going to go with the kickstand switch was stuck. Even though I moved the kickstand in and out a few times and nothing happened she still wouldn't start. Only after I walked her back into the garage and put the kickstand back down did she kick over and run. Hasn't missed a beat since. Guess tomorrow I should go out and spray some cleaner around the switch and clean up the area. Can't hurt, for sure... Think I'll stick with "G2" for the moose name. I like Puc's suggestion, but my HD buddy might not smile!! And we do ride together as often as we can... Hope everyone had a good turkey day! I'm now gearing up for Santa....scouting cards and such! -
This is interesting. I've been editing audio and video files for over 20 years on my own PC systems I built myself. I've ever had any issues like I've seen others have. I'm far faster than a $5000 MAC tower and my last edit puter cost a tad over $1200. I also run Vegas Pro and have since version 3...many years ago. Faster than Premier or any of the "others" out there, including Final Cut. I do so not out of allegiance to Windows but because it's faster, more stable and can do anything...up to and including 4K for movies. But that is in my past...I'm retired and happy to be! I will give my opinion on why MAC people "seem" to have less problems than PC people. Because Apple is a closed system. If you want to write a program or build a piece of gear, you have to do it the Apple Way. PC's are open...Microsoft/Windows... sets the parameters and lets you figure out how to get there. That will produce programs that don't work quite right or gear that doesn't play with others well. So it's really up to Dell (who currently has the best performing 6K editing systems), HP and even yours truly...to choose the best pieces that will work for them. I've been lucky...my systems still work after years of heavy duty editing. My current "office computer" is 10 years old and still running fine...I'm typing on it now. It is a former edit system with 3 hard drives, etc.. But to me the bottom line is not what you use but how you use it that makes the grade. Apples, PC's, Linux...it all works....whatever makes you work better is best for you. Now back to the Beatles on PBS....

As promised, went for a ride today. Instead of breakfast, decided I wanted some bbq for lunch. So off to my favorite little diner in Rio Rico....Nickels. Had some brisket, slaw and fries... Then took the 2 Lane home.... Was a nice break for the day. 73 degrees, sun was warm, air was cool. Perfect! Happy Thanksgiving!! D

Guess us guys and gals in the Southlands had better get to riding and taking pics! Maybe a breakfast ride tomorrow...?

Took 89 VR out for a run this morning. Been awhile. She started up and I backed out of garage. Was sitting with stand down, letting her warm up and she died. Radio was playing. Would not start. Cycled ignition, stop switch, kickstand. Nothing... Not even a click. Radio, lights, horn all worked. Walked her back in garage and put kickstand down. Sat there thinking " what the...."? Turned key and stop switch...vrooom. what? Took off on an hour run. Not one issue. 2 questions: What else besides above would stop engine deader than a door nail? Oil pressure switch, turn over switch? Anything else? 2nd question: I got a Christmas Elf for the RSV..."V4". Trying to come up for a name for my Holiday Moose... On the VR. "G1" maybe? Suggestions? -
Yep...or the Chili Cookoff there. I think it's in March. Plus, if you haven't been there, nickels Diner in Rio Rico, exit 17 has decent breakfasts or lunches... My contact info is in profile..

Looks like Yamaha will be introducing a 3 wheeler late 2018. 2 front wheels that lean independently. 3 cylinder in line motor. Not a scooter. That's about all i know...

Poll: For those of you who have made the conversion. Did you really get better gas mileage? Yes or no.
