Bob, somewhere I read that the coils on the 2nd gens are directly connected to the plug wires...IE...one piece. I've been kind of sweating that as the wires do age and I didn't want to replace the whole coil/wire/plug cap just for a bad wire or cap! Truth or fiction?

You might enquire as to the trike kit manufacturer. I didn't see a name on the eBay site. If it's a Voyager, they do need adjusting to get the ride right, but then seem to ride good from what I've read. It's not a "real" trike kit with only 3 wheels...it does look like a Voyager type kit. http://www.mtcvoyager.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-ebSBRC8ARIsAGuxJIp_Lrtd3p-wyd9w6LhGvrsoX6mRsVEHHq_LGguHQoZ9_f45Xywln1kaAha3EALw_wcB

https://www.ebay.com/i/401382760825?chn=ps Just a thought. Parts are still available worldwide, as Puc mentioned, and eBay may be the ticket for engine stuff...

Don't think so if your local area is served by Roku. Check the link I sent earlier and see if Roku serves local channels to your area. If not local, you can still get both free and paid subscription channels on Roku anywhere. If you have a chimney, you can buy a strap kit that wraps around the Chimney and holds the pole and antenna. Some mount the pole on the side of the house and go up above roof line then put antenna. Whatever works. There are ways to get free TV....just gotta explore the options available in your area. I love my Roku, but this area I'm in isn't served with local channels so it gives me YouTube, Netflix, etc., which is fine by me as my antenna gets me the local stuff. So I'm using both antenna and Roku to cut the cable cord.

Carl, I do believe I covered both of your points: directional with a rotator and the link for stations based on zip code. Totally agree with you. In addition, in looking at his location, he's well within Cleveland's coverage with one large antenna....

Update... Well...the cleaning I did on the start switch worked for a while. But now the start switch has a "bump" in the travel, making it harder to push in than normal. My first guess is it's gotta something broken in there or something is not where it should be as something is getting in the way of the movement in both directions. Right at the beginning of the switch's travel too. I downloaded Gary's @dingy PDF breakdown of the assembly (Thanks Gary for great writeup and pics) and guess I'll be tackling this in the near future. Beans...I wanted to ride to Rio Rice for eats this week. Maybe I can take a chance and go! Fat chance??!!

Shinko 230 Tourmasters on front and rear of the 89. Love them. I believe @cowpuc liked them as well...he wore out 2 sets!! -
I do love the looks of Winter. Enjoy snow too. Almost nothing better than walking out on a crisp morning after a snow.... But I think I'm done with living in it. No more shoveling, mowing, raking for this kid. Had enough!

We took another ride this past Sunday. 10am to 3 pm. Did manage to drop by Saguaro Lake again and stopped at same rest area beyond the Marina to relax.... https://www.google.com/search?q=&tbm=isch&tbs=rimg:CdHKysxqcuE_1IjhRaWZD51aw4bWpaOEW7kX21qiWiWkagmsg6nGUsPi1pJIrI_1N4hS5QR18zC2FN9Zbgaez53T3AYSoSCVFpZkPnVrDhEeaEdER7joW6KhIJtalo4RbuRfYRUv-tV2Wm8XIqEgnWqJaJaRqCaxGmuHgExba8cSoSCSDqcZSw-LWkEUpdX8x_1aIxgKhIJkisj83iFLlARcPskrNcQszMqEglHXzMLYU31lhHl4ovyPmeEUyoSCeBp7PndPcBhEcXwihF1irEC&tbo=u&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjr6tnUodDYAhVHVWMKHZGrCKoQ9C96BAgAEB4&biw=1511&bih=721&dpr=0.9 Will try and take some better pictures...but we don't stop to often. Like the wind in our face! 72 degrees and beautiful day....

YIKES! Dropped by this place in South Phoenix this past weekend. They have one section that is almost all Yamaha. Saw 6 early 1st gens and 1 later model 1st Gen. Sad to see the bodies, engines and pieces just sitting there. No plastic at all...darn it! If you Google map the place...the Yamaha section is the entire Northwest quadrant of the yard. http://www.bobusedmotorcycleparts.com/index.html Here are my pics I shot. I did see some choke levers I didn't know existed.....! Looking NW... NE... Behind me Pat is looking for V4's! A rear shock with schraeder valve Sigh.... Oh...saw this 1600. Totalled by insurance. They want $2300 for her. She looked pretty good...just road rash on right side. Someone has already put a claim on her....

This past weekend we were getting air and gas at the start of another ride and there in front of us was a 2009 RSV! We walked over and met Dave and Mary. They have been on the site for help but have never joined. I suggested that they drop by and look me up. We can exchange particulars and ride together. He said he would. Naturally, I had my phone in my pocket and forgot to take a picture! So Dave and Mary...do stop in here and say "HI"!

As far as I know, my Roku will not stream any local TV channels in many markets. It only has contracts for cable type channels like Food Channel, You Tube and many more. They do have "some" local channels in selected markets....read this... https://blog.roku.com/how-to-watch-local-channels-news-and-weather-on-your-roku-player-and-roku-tv If you want to watch local TV channels...all you need is a good old fashioned TV antenna. In most market areas, you can receive TV stations from up to 50 miles away with the proper antenna. I'm using an old fashioned VHF/UHF antenna on the roof. I'm getting Tucson stations from 46 miles away....You don't need a new "digital HD antenna"!!!!!!!! https://www.tablotv.com/tools/ You don't need anything fancy. But the bigger the better. You can also still find rotators that will turn the antenna if you live where stations are all over the place. This style is what I use.... https://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=HD8200XL&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&utm_term=hd8200xl&gclid=Cj0KCQiAs9zSBRC5ARIsAFMtUXHD4WR921ghwQkm6AZYZ20NF7P19IyhwdueHqn99Pjwfw6xNbJdo98aAoKXEALw_wcB Good luck!

84 Venture Royale CLASS problems
videoarizona replied to old's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
After you've cleaned up the rear of the CLASS system (good idea BTW), if you still have E4 code error...go to the front and take the CLASS computer off the bike. The white multipin connector puts lots of stress on the circuit board pins. Take the computer apart, resolder the pins for the connector. That usually takes care of the E4. It's an easy job.. Articles and pics on site here..... -
Just an update on my recovery from my accident in June.
videoarizona replied to Brake Pad's topic in Watering Hole
I'm having a lot of trouble with my schedule right now. It seems I'm always on the road between Phoenix and Tucson. But I'm about 7 hours from Kanab area. If I can get some time in the next couple of weeks, can I tow trailer with my Yukon XL? I have standard 2" ball. But I'm concerned with the height of the hitch which is set for my sailboat. I think I have a 4 inch drop I can put on unless I gave it away... thoughts? -
Hazzard a guess?
videoarizona replied to s.tyler58's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hmmm don't know if the 83 had the Reserve Lighting Unit. If it does, check the connector for that. It's located under the dash just below where the windshield would be. You do need to split the fairings at the front, which is easy. Take the dash out...or at least lift it up. The RLU is about 2"X3" and has a large multi-wire connector to it. It is sitting thee attached to a rubber mount and slips off. If you don't have a RLU, then go for the switch on the left handle bar. Make sure the start switch on the right handlebar is coming out all the way....not stopping almost out after being pushed in. Beyond this...I know nothing about an 83. I'm getting good on 89's and 05 RSV's! -
Ladies and Gents, First, Happy New Year! Second...reminder that I'm getting older (aren't we all?) and forgetting more...which leads to interesting diagnosing paths! The 89 Blue Beastie decided not to clutch last week. So I figured I would bleed the system. Well...as usual..some idiot (me) screwed one of the master screws on to tight and of course, I needed to make a new slot in the screw to get it off. After bleeding a few strokes...noticed nothing but fluid coming out...so went to look at the teeny hole in the MC...and it was plugged. "E" guitar string cleared that up and clutch was now good again. (reminder to me...change the fluid again soon.) Put everything back together and started her up. Headlight came on for a split second then nothing. Wha? Went for a quick ride and clutch now good but headlight and dash lights not on. Checked the fuses...good. So pulled out the schematics and traced the wires. What could be common with the headlight and dash lights?? Found 2 things....the RLU and the start switch. Start Switch? What the heck does that have to do with the dash lights? Decided to check out the RLU jumpers...thinking maybe all that banging on the bars to "make a new screw slot" might have jarred loose a jumper. Started taking the front end apart when something started nagging my feeble brain. Seriously. Like "why are you doing this dummy?" So...I stopped. Walked around and sat on the bike. Started it a few times...no light. Then it dawned on me. Memory finally started working and I remembered reading about the start switch not coming back out all the way will keep the headlight off. So I reached over and pulled back on the start switch....boom! Headlight and dashlights on! Contact cleaner to the rescue! Boy did I feel dumb!! So this post is a reminder to myself and the forum that the start switch does shut off the headlight and dash lights (at least on my 89!!) so check there first if they don't work but bike runs fine! Ugh...getting old sucks...but the alternative isn't an option! Did I say Happy New Year!!??

For the grommet...try Ace. They just may have something that will work. Look in the O ring/grommet area....drawers full of goodies. Antenna. If I read your post right, it's a single antenna with a splitter by the CB unit in the right fairing. Go with a 3rd party antenna. Better quality, reception and can bolt right on. I went with the Firestick...I called them first.

Carb/Starting Issue
videoarizona replied to grubsie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
> Boy...I don't know. Guess it won't hurt to continue on the carbs... but I think you found the problem with the choke/enrichment circuit not being in sync. If she pulls hard and gets great mpg's....the rest of the carbs should be in great shape! -
Same back at ya!

> Yamaha makes the Star 950 series. Low seat height for women riders. You can flat foot even if you are 5'2". Easy to handle...yep. Reliable cruiser! Not that big either. Yea it weighs 650 pounds, but it's so well balanced anyone can ride it. Slow speed handling is a breeze as well. The 650 Custom is there as well....nicely balanced bike for beginners... But yes, they aren't marketing those bikes to new riders or women.....shame.

Some interesting thoughts on the new Venture from others who CTFW...
videoarizona replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I think this comparison with HD is silly. I read it all over the web. Think about it. Up until a few years ago...HD had no quality control, no power, no good ride, no reliability not much of anything really when you think about it. Well I'll give them a great radio system...ok...I'll give them that on the Ultra. And no one has been able to overcome the "IMAGE". Yamaha and Honda are superior in build quality, durability...blah, blah, blah. BUT, they don't have the "IMAGE"....and no one else has been able to overcome it either. Thankfully, BMW has never bothered to try. And that gives me some hope for the Star Venture. I hope the buyers will look at that bike, not for it's image, rather, for it's engineering sophistication, durability, ride comfort, weather protection and handling. Those are the kind of buyers Yamaha wants. Those who adore the HD "IMAGE" will not even consider any other brand. That kind of brand loyalty was earned by HD, the hard way. And they are working their butts off to keep that loyalty in their back pocket. The one that holds the wallet... For me, if I was in the market for a nice shiny new scoot. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Star Venture. From everything I've read, it's comfortable, smooth, easy to handle and a true touring master. But I would be buying it not for it's image, rather for it's engineering. Yamaha has sold me over the years on it's build quality. That's what's important to me. Would have been nice to have that venerable V4 stuffed in there with water cooling. But that's history now. A solid V twin that is quiet and smooth and gives me good mpg's with proven reliability....now that's a modern day scoot! Where's my check book. Oh wait...I own 2 bikes already and they are just getting broken in! Ugh...guess no new scoots for me for a while! Grins! OH...while I've got your attention...2 things: 1: No riding around here for a few days.....rain for past 2 days and now a cold front coming through. 25 degrees forecast for Thursday/Friday morning...yikes! Who let the warm air out??? 2: Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all....wherever you may be in this world of ours! It's a pleasure yakking with you all! -
Spitting oil
videoarizona replied to Air Ready Auto's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Another thought: If you have a coolant leak at the water pump, the oily feel could very well be the antifreeze mixing with the water...and a touch of head gasket leak from not running and you can blow some oily feeling coolant out the exhaust as well....and if it's dark in color, that could be nothing more than crap(carbon) in exhaust pipe that got blown out with the water/coolant stuff... Leak would be at the water pump....water and oil are very close together there with not much keeping them apart. Regardless, the fuel thing is what gets to me. It has to be evaporating. It would leave a stain on the floor at the very least if it was leaking. To me, with the tank down low...either the tank is leaking or one of the fuel lines or fuel pump has sprung a leak....I'd check the tank. I would think the hoses or pump would leak even when running...but then I would think the tank would leak all the time! -
No Throttle Response Past 1/4 Throttle
videoarizona replied to mills's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just curious. Are you trying to run the motor without the air cleaner/assemblies on? It won't run well at all.... Do check all the air passages from carbs back towards the air cleaners....should be clear, clean and tightly assembled. Sounds like you've gone over most of the trouble areas. If the air system is good, then go back to the carb circuits. Pilot jets, etc.. The usual culprits for not getting engine to rev off of idle.... Good luck. Awaiting how this turns out....
