  1. Yea..agreed. But other than the fender like Jeff mentioned, or the cables as you said...what else could cause that?
  2. For second Gen's...I've gone here... https://www.batterymart.com/POWERSPORTS.html?make=Yamaha&model=XVZ13+Royal+Star%2FVenture+%28All%29&year=2005&engine=1300cc&q=YTX20L-BS At one point, all of my scoots had the Big Crank batts. Price was right, shipping was fast and they have lasted 3 plus years. They only go on the tender if I've left the bike alone for more than 3 weeks...which is rarely. And then only left on overnight. No long term tender usage for these batts. Any of my local stores, I have to order and wait anyway....and from my understanding they are made by East Penn manufacturing...makers of HD batteries and more.
  3. Uh.....ok....but..... How was the ride?
  4. Well spent more time under the scoot looking with the blacklight. Nothing in the normal areas. Another drop seen on the bottom of the rubber dust cover over the u-joint. Looking more carefully, it "could" be the oil seal just before the u-joint. Part #18 (93101-35085-00) on parts page D1 (37 or 112) Follow my thinking...if the oil drips out of that seal, it will run out the dust cover and drip onto the frame rail. It will flow back to the left exhaust pipe and onto the left saddlebag...which does get oil on it during a run. At rest, it will run down the left side rail to the lowest point...which is forward... under the area where the neutral switch/stator wires/shift shaft are. My only problem with this argument, is you would also think the oil would run out the back of the dust cover and to the rear... along the swing arm that encloses the drive shaft. But it's dry as a bone! So more confusion...I don't see how it could leak without blowing oil back along the swing arm/drive shaft side. The area of normal contention, neutral switch/stator wires is dry except for one engine bolt that faces into the block from left to right. It has a drop of oil on the bottom of the head. It's tight so I can't think of why that would leak. Don't want to crank down on it since I can't find it on the parts pdf... No cracks. No obvious issues other than the leak...which is slightly worse now than 2 weeks ago. 3 drops instead of 1 small one. Guess I'll just keep on riding and watch the oil level. Something is bound to show up at some point that makes sense....
  5. Never heard of such a thing. That being said, First thing I would look at is the bearings in the head. Dry or damaged bearings.
  6. The fuel pump only works when it needs to. Once the bowls are full, it won't work. When it does run, it runs for only a few seconds then shuts off. This is a safety thing as well. If our bikes are left sitting for a long time...then we turn the bike on...let the pump run. when it turns off, we turn off the ignition. Then turn it back on and let the pump do it's thing. Usually 2 times will completely fill the bowls. I use the stop switch to do that, some use the key. If you haven't had a chance, head on over to the tech section for your bike and look for the link to download the manuals. Owners, service and parts manuals are available. Owners manual really answers many of your questions until you get to know the bike. If you don't find the answers, do feel free to jump in and ask. Lots of information also available in searching this forum. Also, make sure you check out the links at the bottom of your search pages...these are additional links that may be related to your search. BTW, suggest you think seriously about spending $12 to become a member. That's only $12 a year. You won't find a more knowledgeable group of friends anywhere.
  7. When you take off and go on a long distance trip, what is the average miles you put on in a day? 1: 200 miles 2: 300 miles 3: 400 miles 4: 500 plus miles
  8. Saturday Update: Went for my morning breakfast ride to Rio Rico. I do like that little diner. On the way back, stopped in some familiar places... on a 2 lane outside of Tubac... 2 views...behind and in front of me... The Presidio at Tubac... And then home.....this is after about 30 minutes after motor shut off.... So you can see the size of the drips and the location. 3 drops on the rear most sheet of paper. The front sheet is a stain from previous fun... I did a preliminary search again near the front of the motor...and along both sides. Nothing. Tomorrow I'll take her apart again...and with lights out...search for the elusive oil leak...
  9. Agree with Bob. It sure sounds like your fuel gauge problem is in the rheostat. Either warped or dirty. Next time you are low on gas, take out sending unit. Use pencil eraser to clean wiper. Gently blow dry. Then move float up and down slowly, watching the wiper. Make sure it's making contact all the way up and down. Bend gently if not. Reassemble, cleaning the wires that attach to top of unit. Couldn't hurt...
  10. Jeff, it's not leaking that much...just a few drops after a ride. I cleaned the floor last month after I did an oil change on both Ventures....so any oil on there is new stuff from the leak. It's back together....will try to get some riding in this weekend. Maybe a couple of hundred more miles will help me find the leak! Yay...Ride!
  11. The dye definitely got into all the oil. It drained out a bit when I took off the cover. Look at the green tint from the UV light reflecting off the dye. Can even see it on the cover that I haven't cleaned yet...in the upper left corner of the cover there is still oil there.... I have a feeling I'm going to have to live with it for a while, though I do get tired of the drops on the floor. She marks her spot now, every time I shut her off after a ride. Grrrr...
  12. LOL! Nope didn't see any oil escaping from the starter area. Not overfull either...in fact I'm a tad low as I didn't finish the filling after the oil change a few weeks ago... Wish I was done with this leak...but I'll find it....or someone here will....Grins!
  13. UPDATE: OK..back home in GV. Went for a nice fast ride yesterday to stir up the dye in the oil... Took cover 2 off this morning to look for the pesky leak....nothing. No dye visible on the stator wires, the neutral switch assembly, the clutch slave assembly or the shift shaft. General view looking into the area....BTW, WalMart has the UV flashlight, $10 in the fishing department, it's a small Ray O Vac uses 3 AAA batts and is bright. It will go in my road tool kit for sure. Good for bugs and such as well. Shift shaft area is clean as well..... I turned off all the lights in the garage and looked all over the motor. From the valve covers down...including everything in between. The oil/water "twinkie" area between the cylinders is dry as well. One drop of oil was seen under the rubber cover that covers the U-Joint...but I think that came from oil running back. That area is to far back since my drip is right under the area where the slave/stator wires/neutral switch/shift shaft are. Even under the motor...the pan area...is clean. No green dye seen. So...where do I go looking now? I would appreciate any ideas....
  14. Well that complies with what I found on my RSV. I put my XM antenna inside the fairing directly under the windshield and got blocked only heading northbound. I've since moved the antenna to the handlebars and have perfect reception. If the XM antenna installation is stock from Serius/XM, then you can easily either remove the antenna and move it or replace with handlebar mount designed for scoots. That I don't know....
  15. This past Saturday, we took a trip up to Wickenburg for breakfast, then up Yarnell hill and on to Prescott via RT89. Lots of twisties! Stopped briefly at Watson Lake Park. Kinda cool rock formations around the lake. On the way back to Phoenix on I-17, we stopped at two places. First the rest area at Sunset Point. Then on to Rock Springs Cafe...lots of history there. Was a stage coach stop way back when. They also have the "Hogs in Heat" all you can eat days throughout the year. Great BBQ! One of these days I'll get a picture of Pat without her helmet on! Anyway, a good ride. Bike ran very well. 36 mpg's, 2 up, loaded with tools, water, warm clothes and such....from twisties at 20-40mph to interstate at 80mph. We were prepared in case it got chilly up in the hills!
  16. Search. It looks like the same mounting the Daymaker might use. For the RSV, that would require some changes to the original mount in addition to buying another inside mount to attach to our bucket. It is doable as others have mounted the Daymaker type LED. Found one link... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?120273-New-LED-passing-lamp-and-headlamp
  17. Put another 200 miles on these Shinkos. Anyone who has risen Az Rt 89 up Yarnell Hill then on to Prescott, knows the quality of those twisties...especially before Prescott. Transitioning back and forth is so much easier now. Good tires.
  18. Put the Boss on the back and hit the two lane twisties for a couple if hundred miles on the RSV. The Shinko 777HDs handled very well! Nap time!
  19. Yep.. Love that dual zone feature on the 3rd Gen! That will solve many an issue with the lady not having to listen to our"stuff"!!!
  20. Actually, Bluetooth in most iterations, is not dual channel capable. IE, having two or more channels on the bike would mean two or more transceivers... Capable of transmit and receive simultaneously. Wireless bandwidth is available but the equipment is not....yet. But good to hear that the wireless capability is still there! I had my Serius antenna in the front fairing of my RSV and it would cut out at certain direction....I moved it to handlebar and perfect reception! So if the 3rd Gen has a hidden xm antenna and gets great reception, then Yamaha engineering gets another "A"!!!
  21. The HP of the venture should be around 97. I don't know the power of the 1300 but doubt it's near there. Our ventures we very well designed for power and handling... Keep an eye on Pinwall and other motorcycle recyclers on ebay. The adjusting assembly does show up now and then. Other than that, maybe start a new post here asking if anyone has a replacement knob. Or know of a way to replace with something else. Enjoy the Venture and the 1300!!
  22. I do like Shinko tires. Put the 230 Tourmasters on my 89 and after 3 plus years they are still looking good. They stick. They are smooth riding too! I then put the 777HD on the rear of the VStar 950 Tourer... And loved how well it handled over the stock Bridgestones. I now have about 1200 miles on the 777HDs installed on the 05 RSV. They are superb. So smooth. Just finished another 150 Mike freeway run up to Phoenix on this very windy day.... And really am impressed with those tires. They also have the load rating to handle the heavier RSV. Only time will tell how well they wear, and how they will handle as they wear, but for now... I'm happy with them. They are cheap enough to try without breaking the bank too. I run them within 2lbs of max pressure, cold.
