  1. Prayers Up! For Skid and Yammer! (and for you too!)
  2. Let's hope that twitchyness will go away as the system breaks in. If not then you may have to go to dealer and have them tweak the computer...if that is doable. Could be a firmware update for that as well down the line...
  3. I'm thinking of buying one "just in case" on upcoming trip.... https://www.rmstator.com/en_ww/products/generator-stator-for-yamaha-xvz-royal-star-midnight-venture-tour-deluxe-s-1300-1999-2013-rms010-100030
  4. Oh lord.... Prayers Up....
  5. I didn't realize you had such experience on scoots! Yes the commutator. Does need cleaning and that and brushes are a cheap fix. Can't answer about how the brushes are connected. I haven't had a starter issue yet. My experience comes from early bikes and British sports cars. Rebuilding generators and starters was a normal experience there. Hope I didn't offend you... If so, I apologise. david
  6. Take the starter out and take it apart. It's easy. Check the brushes and clean up the "shiny part". Clean the grooves on the shiny part. I bet you can get this puppy working again for no cash. Except maybe a pair of brushes. I bet there is even a video on you tube on how to clean up a starter.... Principle is probably the same on all of them...
  7. I put 11k miles on my VStar with belt drive. Much of it through mountains and two up. When I sold it, belt showed no wear.. Those belts are tough....I would expect 100k out of them before replacement. Like the serpentine drive belt in your car....
  8. Well... That first link got hijacked by viglink... Whoever they are. Never mind it. In fact I'll go delete it. Everything you need to know about the gps is on the other link
  9. GPSCITY just got in refurbished 590LM motorcycle units. Comes with 1 year factory warranty, motorcycle cradle and mount, car mount, power stuff, etc. Refurbished by Garmin. Free lifetime maps. Ipx waterproof and built for motorcycle. For info. $799 new...$499 refurb. See deal here. http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-zumo-590lm-newly-overhauled I like it because it has Bluetooth AND audio out, audio in and is 2 way Bluetooth compatible. So it will plug into the aux input of the RSV and will sync to your phone to play music as well as call out on phone. It has a micro sd card slot for more maps or your mp3 tunes. Or can play tunes from your phone to it and bluetooth to scoot or vice versa. Versatile unit. GPSCITY has videos on the 590 explaining just about everything it does. Well done too! Yea...I bought one. Lots of coin but only one I've found that had all the features I want and had the audio out capability. Downside... It's 2 generations down. So the latest bells and whistles aren't there or are not as well implemented. If you are interested, suggest you search youtube for the 590LM videos by GPSCITY. They will show you all the capabilities of the unit.

  11. Also, what turns me off is there is no provision for blocking off the low beam....so the LED is relying on the lens to do that and that probably won't work. If you look at quality LED bulbs for auto use, the low bean LEDs have a piece of metal blocking off the light so it throws a flat pattern out to the horizon. The Broviews a number of us bought has that as well as the recent post that showed a picture of the bulb cutoff. I've included a picture of the cut off plate. DO NOT BUY these as they are not for us.... Hope this helps
  12. I no longer have the tools to make any kind of a mount. The shop is no more... As to mounting down by the calipers....how did you guys do it? Mount off of one of the caliper bolts? Those bolt heads are to big for the little u-shaped adapter that came with the light. I have LED lights instead of reflectors mounted in the reflector areas. About the only way I'll be able to mount down by the engine guards under the pegs, is to drill a hole into the guard and bolt the little mount through the hole. Not sure that's a good idea as weak as these guards are. Don't need to weaken them any more. But maybe a little hole won't hurt?! Pictures would help if you have any.... TIA, david
  13. Asking for ideas on where to mount the small LED bullet lights I have. I already have highway pegs on the engine guards as well as the Yamaha lower wind deflectors mounted there. I don't think they will mount on the front fender mounting bolt as the fork covers may hit the lights during a hard pothole hit at full compression. Thought about the wind guards in front of the forks but same issue. I guess I could mount on the top edge of the lowers. However, the wind there may flex the lower plastic enough to induce cracking ...although I could mitigate that by bracing on the underside with abs and epoxy. What has worked for you all?
  14. Leo, My bad...it was the link you shared showing the turn signals/lights. I now see the video belongs to someone else. My apologies!
  15. @BuddyRich, Are you still able to supply the knee fairing deflectors? My 05 Silver RSV needs a pair... Grins...
  16. leo3wheel, Leo, I watched your video from last year and noticed you have a pair of lights mounted down low on each side of the fender. Did you use the fender mount area with a longer bolt? I must assume the light doesn't get hit by anything when you bottom out the front shock. Appreciate any info on how you mounted those little lights! BTW, I do like those front turn signal/driving lights! david
  17. By the way, the link that I found to order just the pump took me to a Canadian site that won't let me order from the states. I did find another older link but that page doesn't exist. If anyone has a link to a good set of points for the 2nd gen, I'd appreciate it. I do have 2 cheapie fuel pumps...#1 , the points are already bent so they won't last...but the other looks really good. So I'll keep #2 but want to carry points around just in case. TIA
  18. I had the Yamaha VStar 950 Tourer. Loved that Vtwin. Never had a problem and changing out the rear tire at 11K miles was a breeze with the belt drive. Seriously wish I had kept that bike...
  19. One thing that I didn't see mentioned about having a vent....besides adding air flow to your face or chest as desired, it also helps reduce the vacuum behind the windshield that is created by the air rushing past it. Adding air into that calm spot behind the windshield reduces buffeting to the front seater. I've had the Clearview with vents on 3 scoots in the past 6 years. Not one failure or problem. The only negative is cleaning the bugs that get caught in between the vents!
  20. :sign yeah that: I make that a habit and do so every time I shut down.
  21. First, welcome to our group! Second, go take a look at her. Probably worth far more than the $500! If you decide to buy it, know you should change the oil, drain all old gas from tank, carbs and lines, flush and replace the brake fluid front and rear as well as clutch. Brakes are linked (unless owner changed that) rear pedal works the left front and the rear. Hand brake works the right front. Brakes and clutch use DOT 3 fluid. I would also pull the plugs and clean/gap them or change them. I hope he has the tool kit that came with the bike...nice leather dual pouch kit. Know that the Venture uses JIS (not philips screws) so it will pay to invest in some JIS screw drivers - found on-line. Meanwhile put the battery on charge, clean the battery cables, etc.. Once that's done. Put new fuel in tank, turn on ignition and stop switch and listen for fuel pump to run. Watch for gas pouring out of 4 lines underneath bike in front of rear wheel. If everything looks good, start her up. Go from there.... The suspension issues may be nothing more than a computer error ( ie E4), that is easily fixed! The 89 is a solid bike. I have one and enjoy riding it year around. Download the owners manual and shop manual...links found in the 1st Gen tech section of this forum. Any issues can be searched on this forum...and do take a peak at the recommended links at the bottom of each search page. Usually these links are related to your search as well! If you like what you see in the bike and this forum, please drop $12 to join. Best money you will ever spend! Good luck...oh...and take pictures!
  22. From Jeff " From the wiring diagram it looks like there are actually 2 separate switches in the clutch switch, One is normally open and the other is normally closed. The starter cut out is the NC and the cruise is the NO. The switch is in the Normal position when the clutch lever is pulled." Does that help?
  23. The B/Y (black/yellow)wire goes straight to the starting cut off relay. The L/Y (blue/yellow) comes from the side stand switch as seen in the pdf I included. The switches do two things, 1: turn off the cruise control and 2: Stop the motor from starting. The B/W wires are NOT ground. They are part of the control circuits and tie them all together...through relays or switches. 86-89 clutch switchA.pdf Hope the close up of the schematic above helps....
