  1. I hear ya. I thoroughly enjoy riding the 89. But I'm getting to the point that having 2 scoots is more of a problem. Think I'm going to put the 89 up for sale after the New Year. I must say...I will miss it... but will have the memories of the handling, weather protection, comfort and sheer exhilaration of that right wrist twist!
  2. I have an 05 RSV. The quietest ride so far is with Yamalube 20-50 Dino. Synthetics and dino 10-40's are noisier. To be tested next is Quicksilver synthetic 20-50.
  3. Flyinfool has it correct. When I bought my VStar 950 Tourer, it had 800 miles on it. Most of those miles were demo rides and one "owner"...who had it for a very short time. It had been sitting essentially "new" for a few years. I had them change all fluids, check date code on tires and give me a 2 year "YES" bumper to bumper warrantee. They did a good job going over the bike for me prior to purchase. I was the second owner as the first guy never even titled it. He only had it a few days and turned it back in. Strange situation, but worked out well for me. Dealer was first owner on title. Loved that scoot.
  4. That's the same company I bought my spare stator from for my RSV. I carried it with me just in case on my summer cross country. Didn't need it. So have no real world experience. But the company and build seemed the best for the bux, so that's the way I went....
  5. Took both Ventures for a ride today with StaBil in in the tanks. Not much riding the past couple of months...and probably not any for another month...so gave them the exercise they deserved! No pictures, but use your imagination...I wasn't wearing long johns...it was 72 degrees out!
  6. No thoughts on this one, Puc... Crossing fingers it's a water pump impeller... Oh. @cowpuc, I'll be seeing James, @VanRiver , Friday for lunch. December 14th....if you and Tip will be in the area heading West...
  7. Just back from a week camping at the Lost Dutchman State Park. Nice place. It was a good week. Warm days and cool evenings! The rain threat was nothing more than sprinkles.... Some pictures to share.... My trailer at our site. The utilities were on the wrong side at this park. Was interesting trying to figure out where to park to get the best view and still have room to run the water and electricity! This is for @cowpuc and Tippy.... Turn up the volume for this clip. I call it "Dual in the Desert"....just before sunset...
  8. Bob, Sending Prayers Up! Grab that sucker by the reins and kick it's *ss out! P.S. Attitude is everything..... Go for it!
  9. Sounds like us...except we do HAVE to deal with Snowbirds. Lordy, they are coming out of the woodwork, gumming up the nice 2 lanes and driving 10mph under the speed limit. Sigh...
  10. Did you read this? scroll down to post #8 . He has same beginning numbers on his vin.... https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?89793-Seeking-1983-1993-VIN-for-a-comprehensive-database&highlight=numbers As I scroll down the thread, I saw a number of bikes with vins that start like yours. I'm beginning to think maybe the person you talked to didn't know what they were doing....or all these bikes are non-usa bikes...
  11. He may be out at his cabin enjoying the snow. When he checks in, he'll see my quote for his name and read the posts.... He'll have an answer for you quickly. In the meantime, search the older posts for "USA bike", "Not a US made bike", "title issues" or something similar...keep trying. You aren't the first with an unknown VIN/title issue if my memory serves! I'm sorry I can't help as that type of stuff is not something I have knowledge of...
  12. Suggest you do 2 things: 1: add your vin to this database...(may have to talk to Prairiehammer about this as well) https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?89793-Seeking-1983-1993-VIN-for-a-comprehensive-database&highlight=kevin+campbell 2: Contact @Prairiehammer he knows our bikes vins... Join up. $12/year. You can get that back with just one great answer from our group. Welcome to our Forum.
  13. Add my thanks for the guys and gals here! I've enjoyed every minute and learned a ton! Daughter is here....she wants to go for a ride tomorrow...so Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I get to ride with my youngest...whee!
  14. Greg, Go to the local music store or ring up a friend who plays guitar. You want to borrow or buy an high "E" string. It will be a fine metal wire. I use that on my carbs and works great....Cost should be really low. Your clutch parts look clean. If you are still having problems, I would replace all the crush washers at every junction and check out the line ends to make sure they don't have crud on them or are pitted. You must have an air leak in a junction or a line somewhere. The slave and the master both "look" pretty good.
  15. @VanRiver, Will do....it might be chilly though. According to the Almanac we are supposed to have a wet and cold winter....Not usual for us but does happen. As far as seeing you...just let me know when. We have some Holiday functions to go to in December and I'll be camping in the trailer at https://azstateparks.com/lost-dutchman from Dec 3 - 7. Space 18. Come visit...will make a nice ride for you. Text me...I'll have the phone. Other than that....lets have lunch or dinner somewhere. Your choice this time, I believe! Looking forward to seeing you...
  16. When I first towed my sailboat (4200 lbs), I had sway issues. Added 2 anchors/chain and rode up in the V-berth and good to go for the past 14 years. I'm also being careful with my TT. There is a towing difference between empty gray/black water tanks and full! Yessiree. Both of my tanks are in the rear, when full, she's a different beastie entirely!
  17. My apologies, Don. I keep forgetting some people live in the cold!! Glad they winterized it for you. I hope they did the pressure test on both water systems before hand so they were confident they are no leaks....dealers have to out here...plus the gas has to be tested for leaks before the sale as well. So you should be good to go. The mention of using the power winch to raise the truck and trailer to hitch up the anti-sway bars is the best advice I got from the guy who set up my trailer. On my hitch, I have to go almost to the top(I marked the height with a red marker) before I can put on the bars easily without using the tool. That's why you see 2 4x6 wood blocks under my jack foot. To give me the travel needed. So that's what I do. Hitch up, raise the assembly up high enough then either put the bars on or take them off. Then let her back down. I have one of those battery disconnects on my battery. Installed right on the side of the case. One of those little red plastic "keys" is left in the battery box as a spare, the other is wired to the battery cable with safety wire and a zip tie. Enough slack to reach the switch, but when let go, it hides down beside the frame. On the picture of my hitch in an above post, you can see the switch. Basic switch idea below. Otherwise a good marine disconnect switch can be mounted on your frame rail... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003BQLZ36/ref=psdc_15719961_t3_B000MTB7XS The other recommendation is to add the Mor-Ryde system. I have it on mine. Instead of having everything shake apart inside, mine rides a bunch smoother. The extra travel on the suspension makes a big difference... http://www.morryde.com/products/90-cre3000-suspension-system?return=%2Fproduct-category%2F4-suspension. I'm researching 6 volt deep cycle batteries instead of my single 12 volt. I want true deep cycle capability and the typical car/marine deep cycle is a compromise. They won't last if you discharge them below 50% repeatedly...and they usually aren't more than 80 amp hrs of capacity. The golf cart types are usually around 200 amp hrs and have thicker plates so they can be discharged to the bottom and come right back up. That's what we will need for boondocking. We want to see the National parks and spaces are very limited and often booked a year or two in advance. There are overflow parking areas at most parks close by, but no services. That's good enough for us. Already decided on the Harbor Freight 100 watt solar panel system. 4 panels. $199.00. Use Super Coupon to get 20% off. Cheap plastic frames, but they work well and have good reviews. I will put hinges on each pair so they will fold onto each other...protecting the panels. I can use 2 to trickle charge and all 4 to charge up the batteries after a night of hard use. I may get a generator (Yamaha or Honda) but will also have to add the Easy Start system so I can run the AC off of the little 2kw generator. Also allows you to run the AC at home plugged into a standard outlet...20 amp...with a heavy duty extension cord. https://www.microair.net/collections/easystart-soft-starters/products/easystart-364-3-ton-single-phase-soft-starter-for-air-conditioners?variant=30176048267 Last items I'm installing (already purchased) as time permits: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Furrion-Vision-2-FOS48TAPK-BL-Digital-High-Speed-Wireless-RV-Observation-System-With-Backup-Camera-Monitor-and-Mounting-Bracket-381556/53998483 And these little guys to replace the cheap plastic latches on the drawers. I have 2 heavy duty drawers under each dinette seat.... http://www.leevalley.com/en/hardware/page.aspx?p=40618&cat=3,41399,41405 That's where I'm at. OH...yes...I have the roll out cover(aluminum shield) over the slide out and will put one over the awning to protect it (UV/weather) while it's rolled in. The one over the slide out was mandatory, IMHO, to protect the top of the slide out from debris, bird poop, dirt, etc. while the slide is out. No more cleaning before putting the slide in when camping under trees! See the slide out cover below.. Hope some of this helps....
  18. Scary. I've seen enough 3rd degree burns to last me a lifetime when I filmed for the Burn Center in Phoenix. That's what sliding down the road will get you without protection.
  19. Me too!
  20. Agreed on all points, Clive. Only thing is the current GDP is much better than Obama years due to the tax cuts that stimulated the economy...manufacturing added jobs, etc.. "The current U.S. GDP growth rate is 3.5 percent. ... Current U.S. gross domestic product is $20.659 trillion. That means all the people and companies in the United States produced at a rate of $20.659 trillion in the past 12 months." And predicted to grow if Congress will stop the crap throwing and get back to work representing us, the people. I'm sad too, and angry this has happened....but that's what we get for not imposing our will on Congress....they do work for us, supposedly.
  21. Got the RSV out today. 76 degrees. Went to visit a friend with a 1st Gen, then took off looking for lunch. Came back about 2 hours later.....I did find lunch...ugh. Here my 05 is resting after an 80 mph run down the freeway heading home. We are waiting for the mailman to finish loading up the boxes...
  22. My concern starts in January. One side has already publicly announced their agenda to go after the other side. And the other side has announced they will fight to the death. What that's going to do to the stock market for the coming year may not be pretty. Retirement pension plans, REITs, Mutuals, and retiree's investments could be hurt. And all so the politico's can yell at each other...I noticed that each time one party spoke their agenda these past few weeks, the market dropped around 200 points. That's not encouraging at all... Term limits, make PAC's illegal and do away with any form of lobbying...and get rid of fake news, sensationalism in the news and the feeding of values that do NOT shape our country at all. Lets get back to our core values....together.
  23. Time for some more "NO SNOW" pictures. Grins...but no bike pics...yet. First...Carefree AZ has a pumpkin festival each Fall. Very well done...artists gather to carve out the gourds and pumpkins for the enjoyment of all...we started at the Black Mountain Coffee House. Great little breakfast place in Carefree...it was closed for a while but is back. Then on to the carving... most of these are large... love these little mice! As you can tell by the people...it was a nice warm day. The following week we took off to the lake again... This time we went up the Agua Fria River arm of the lake as it's due to close shortly as it's an eagle habitat... The Admiral is on the far boat... The Admiral and Tom enjoying a relaxing sunset... Our friend Steve coming in to the anchorage. Tom is out to guide him in for anchor setting... Linda is toasting the sunset.... This past weekend we got a whole group together for a Surf & turf weekend. One of our friends found the Wendy's chili recipe on line and cooked up 5 gallons of it! Don't have pics of the party but there were 4 sailboats anchored off shore and 9 trailers/RVs! We may have to rename the Lake Pleasant Sailing Club! That's it for now. Next up is the RSV goes back on the road. Found a black widow sitting on her web on the rear tire. Tried to take a pic but she ran away up into the fender. Some spray took care of her. Guess that means I haven't been riding enough!! I'll try and get out today or tomorrow, then oil change.
  24. Excellent choice! The trunion style, in my opinion, is the best there is for sway control...
