  1. Thank You, Scott. I watched the whole thing....
  2. If you can get a vin, one of our members Prariehammer can look up and get you the year of scoot. You may have same issues with frame and trannie. Good find on the frame
  3. Hard to tell by photo, but my only concern would be heat from exhaust. Other than that, McGiver strikes again!!
  4. Didn't even think about it. With the helmet and tunes, I rarely hear the whine anymore...
  5. Rematch: Still won't be fair. The 2nd gens gears are just not made for acceleration. It's a touring bike, not a sport touring scoot. I don't even think a mk1 vs mk2 match would be fair... As the mk 1 is lighter. But I enjoyed the run down the roads were you @cowpuc!!! I'll buy the ribs, you buy the I've cream!
  6. There are some videos on line from some guys who like to try and debunk myths and ideas regarding engines. One of the videos ....they talk about dents in headers. Discussion started when guys would cram an engine is an area where it shouldn't fit, so they would dent the headers to get the motor in. People were saying you are losing power bashing headers. So....They threw a motor in a dyno and got the hp and torque. Then bashed one header. No change. Bashed another. No change. Did all 8 ... No change. So much for that.... At least according to them. Interesting food for thought.
  7. Yesterday, decided to renew the clutch in my RSV. Big shout out thank you to Freebird! Don took my call and helped me through the confusion in my pee brain. Earl's instructions were clear. But I was having troubles with the thought of throwing away 4 things, replacing with only one. But the clutch is done. Didn't get to ride today as my helmet is 150 miles away. But in playing with clutch in driveway, it felt good and no leaks! Thanks again, Don. Btw, it was easy....

  9. I'm still mad at myself for selling the VStar 950. What a great scoot for zooming around the two lane roads in Arizona...
  10. My original toolkit was in the right saddlebag under the foam insert. The bottom of the saddlebag case has an indentation and a strap arrangement to hold kit in place. Now I have a1st gen, Mk2... An 89.... So yours might be different. One thing though.... The original kits were very complete. So if you buy one, look up the manual and see what was included... Then buy a kit that is as complete as you can find.
  11. From what I remember in older threads.... The narrow front tire does seem to make it easier for low speed handling but at the expense of more sensitive steering at higher speeds, especially with winds gusts. That said, @cowpuc took my RSV out for a spin while I was napping. His first ride on a second gen.... He did a video of slow riding in a small parking lot at the beach with Tippy on the back. I can't find the video but his comments blow the poor handling idea out of the water.... I'll let him chime in with video link. I'm out of town so not able to access site as easily as at home. Plus I can personally attest to the stability of the 2nd gen with that fat tire up front. It handles gusts and severe winds nicely. I wasn't shoulder or arm sore after a day on the road battling winds and trucks.
  12. Very common problem. I learned it years ago on my VStar 650 Classic. My magnet did find the screw. I look at them every time I take off the gas cap to fuel. Thanks for the reminder.....
  13. Jeff, Will be sending prayers up your way next week. Awaiting word on your return.
  14. Yikes! The older I get, the more my fingers can't spell...or type. Thanks, Jeff...good catch!
  15. To take the thread off topic (again)...I just traded in my 04 Yukon XL yesterday. She was running fine...getting 18mpg's all day long and only had 218K miles. But the trade in was there only because of the 4 speed trannie. Just not enough gears to pull a 3 ton trailer around Arizona, Colorado, etc.. I found that out towing the trailer home to Tucson from Knoxville. Going west in Oklahoma is uphill all the way and always a stiff headwind...poor trannie sat in 3rd gear at 62mph (3800rpm) for the entire day. So getting a new to me, used 2105 Sierra Denali with the 6.2ltr and an 8 speed trannie. I couldn't afford the diesel...so this is the next best thing. I'm going to seriously miss the Yukon. Still had everything original on it except front wheel bearings that were changed at 206K miles. Brake discs, pads, alternator, water pump, AC, etc., all original. Not to shabby for a truck that has been towing a 4200 pound boat all over the country multiple times for 15 years! The dealer can't even retail her...to many miles, so off to auction she will go. Sad to see...such a great truck. Ah well...life goes on. Back on topic a bit.....still know we are heading to MD, but don't know how we are going to get there. I have to decide soon so I can get a hotel room if we fly into Cleveland. We are still thinking the trailer but that will depend upon Pat's mom being around. If she is, then Pat can't leave for more than a week. And we fly in. As far as scoots...give me a Yamaha any day. My priority is technical superiority. That gives me a great scoot that will last almost forever.
  16. We had a break in the weather....the cold front came through with highwinds. But Saturday was nice so I went and got the trailer to install new batteries in. What a fun time that was. Just barely enough room to put 2 6-volt golf cart batts on the rails. Had to do some fancy cutting on the battery boxes to fit them in side by side...and then did manage to find room for the shut off switch. See the VR watching me from the garage? While I was waiting for the paint on the rails to dry....I was standing in front of the garage and kept hearing this whispering. Something or someone was calling my name and saying "ride me...ride me..." I turned around and the 89 VR was beckoning to me with her tailpipes...she wanted to run free with the cool wind and warm sun... So.... We burned through a half a tank...ran into a guy on an RSTD...his license plate said so! He said two other people had come up to him and mentioned they recognized the motor and had a bike like that. But I failed to ask him about Ventureriders.org. Dumb! Nice day.....
  17. I came within an inch of buying the 73 Hornet Hatchback with the V8 and 4 speed....mainly due to it's looks and handling. ((As part of a significant product placement strategy, an AMC Matador coupe played a starring role in a The Man with the Golden Gun, released in 1974.[52] It featured the newly introduced Matador Brougham Coupe in the Oleg Cassini edition, along with Matador four-door police cars (in the black and white livery used by the Los Angeles Police Department) and a Hornet X hatchback)) Above from Wiki I bought the 1973 Opel Manta Rallye instead. I could outhandle a Porsche 914 and some 911's (bad drivers) on the curvy 2 lanes of Colorado. Not fast, but could corner like a son of a gun. in Colorado... The above is from the brochure that sold me!
  18. Now that is a very nice setup! Whoa!!
  19. What a simple but great idea! Geesh, thanks for that!
  20. In looking over the pictures, you might be surprised how little "restoration" she will need. I'm beginning to think a good clean up, carb clean up, pull the plug wires and plugs and redo, new fluids all around....and she might be good to go! Oh...new tires too....and clean the brake calipers, and..... Shoot...ok...restoration it is! Guess what I'm saying is don't be surprised if she doesn't take much work. She is a Yamaha Venture, after all....
  21. Good work! Shows me you will fit right in here with the rest of us varmints!
  22. Not us Honest! They are doing it to themselves. This cold stuff is coming down from their neck of the woods!
  23. Take a ride over to the Lost Dutchman State Park. It's just outside of Apache Junction. https://azstateparks.com/lost-dutchman/ We stayed there last fall for a week. Great place! Sad to say though, Doug...another cold front is on it's way and should go by you on Friday morning. Our 85 degrees today will drop to the 60's by Friday with a chance of rain. Weekend should be sunny but cool...then rain on Monday! Sorry!
  24. Okie Dokie...here we are again....another month has gone by. Where they go and how they manage to zip by so fast...is a question I'll never be able to answer in my lifetime. This past weekend, we took the boat out to the lake for a weekend sail and campout with friends. It was raining while we set up the boat and launched...but just as we cleared the breakwater, the rain stopped and the sun came out. We had a gorgeous day sailing..... Then we found a "secret" cove....you can only get to it when the water level at the lake is high enough. 3 boats...close friends....party time! We were celebrating Mardi Gras...hence the beads and such all over the boats... Jambalaya was for dinner...really good! In the morning after breakfast and some coffee....we rowed around the cove. Enjoyed the wild burros yakking at us and the quiet peaceful morning. About 65 degrees... I'm a pretty lucky guy. I have a used sailboat that has served well for 15 years now... Yamaha scoots...and this past year...a travel trailer. Bought them all used for very little bux and each one has given myself and my better half so much fun! Plus...living in Arizona. I can't say enough about this place. But to able to do whatever I want, 24-7, 365...is a blessing all by itself. There is something nice about hunkering down in front of a fireplace while 2 feet of snow is blowing in all around you. I get that...been there. But to do that on a boat sitting in a cove with a glass in hand...or around a campfire with a dozen friends surrounded by our RV's...or sitting at a rest area somewhere I've never been...that's all pretty nice too! Not to many more stories will be coming my way to youse guys and gals for your enjoyment. You are coming into Spring soon...and you will be out in the garage getting those scoots ready to fly...CTFW wherever it takes you! Then it will be my turn to sit and watch and read your tales of fun! We are planning on this year's MD. But whether we arrive with a trailer or a rental car...that's still up in the air. Later,
