Electrical issue
videoarizona replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Where is the common point to those things you mentioned? The ignition switch for one. The 1st gen does some interesting things with the starting circuit. If memory serves, besides the normal ones like the neutral, kickstand, turn over and emergency switch (which I don't think is your problem-but I've been wrong before)...the high/low beam/start button switches are the next area to check. Squirt some contact cleaner in there and move the start switch in/out. Make sure it's coming ALL THE WAY OUT! I know that if the start switch doesn't come all the way out, the headlight will not turn on. OH...check to see if your emergency flashers work with ignition off. They should. If yes, then the power to the lights is good. If no, then the problem is common to turn signal circuit power as well as the emergency light power...which is part of the turn signal relay circuit. Again, go over all the switches that can kill the start...and clean them or wiggle them as you try and start her. Lastly, very strange problems have occurred when the primary ground off the batter is corroded or loose. Just trying to think outside the box a little as well as giving you ideas to try. Electrical intermittents are a bear to deal with unless you write down everything that could cause the problem, then like a checklist, go through each item....one at a time. -
Cruise control modification?
videoarizona replied to SilveradoCA's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It would be easy to make the change if you could find the schematic for the system. You just need to spoof the system into thinking it's in 4th or 5th. That could be a problem. Maybe adding an external switch to throw that would allow CC might be a better and easier idea. Since I don't know if you can find enough detailed info to make the changes, I too recommend the throttle lock. -
Front tire size change
videoarizona replied to labill's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm glad you found the videos! I'm running stick size tires front and rear. Run 40lbs in rear and 38lbs in front. I too believe in putting some pressure in those tires! Thanks Puc, for finding the videos... Love ya, Bro! Hi to Tippy! -
Electrical issue
videoarizona replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The battery, despite being new, is the #1 suspect. Either dead cell or loose cable. Followed by corrosion of the main fuse, the ignition or start switch, emergency stop switch, etc.. -
please help, what would you do?
videoarizona replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not quite true. You still should still "balance" the carbs after they are installed and running. You need to balance the airflow...and that can only be done when running with air cleaner on at the proper idle. Although there are some engine masters here on site that do the carb balance at a higher RPM. Your call on this as I have no experience with high idle balancing...other than watching it get done at MD this past summer. -
Patricia and I were wondering what kind of bike this was? The picture was taken in Ohio just before WW2....of her mom's brothers. The bike is probably older than that though... Here ya go: Thanks in advance...

The Sierra Denali is a very nice truck...but I miss my Yukon XL a lot! Lots of miles and smiles were had in that vehicle. Comfortable and could carry a ton of stuff! Just didn't have the trannie for the trailer. Might I suggest a 2016 Sierra 1500 crew cab SLT with a 6.2 and the 8 speed? Find one under 60K miles and you'll be impressed. That's what I was originally looking for but 6.2's are very rare around here. Everyone who has one is keeping it. https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/3GTU2PEJ8HG481497 P.S. don't be turned off at the dash display. That's one of 3 displays you can choose to use. I think it's to futuristic...not truck-like! P.P.S. You will get better mileage with different tires. I went with 20inch rims and good old Michelin LT's. Get 24 mpg's average going to Phoenix at 75mph!

Camping....we are packing for a week long trip to a campground near Greer, AZ. 300 miles away. Going to be chilly!!! Whee! The RV trailer is getting a bit loaded up. The more we camp out with it, the more "stuff" we seem to need! Just like the little sailboat. I've got to stop this nonsense before the truck starts to complain! Either that or lose weight on a personal level! Ugh...

Uh...this is a motorcycle forum....right? Grins! -
Seriously, I've never seen these kind of trike style assemblies before. The rider was quite pretty though.....sigh. (too old to be thinking those thoughts, David)

Southern Arizona cools off long before Phoenix area does...both at night and during the summer doldrums. Dry Heat, right? This morning was a nice 70 degrees so the RSV said "Let's ride...". I agreed and jumped into my riding gear and heading towards the border for some grub. Rio Rico...as usual... Green desert from the monsoon rains... Stopped at Chili store....where I got @Freebird's MD house gift. (Hope you both are enjoying it!) Another nice ride.....3 hours worth.

"Navigation system not ready" message

I don't have the 3rd gen...but can't for the life of me understand why it would take more than 1 minute to update a route? I have a 12 year old Garmin that's faster than that! So...what's going on 3rd gen owners????? -
Sorry I'm late for this post. For the 1st Gen scoot...no...you can't get the radio to work if you unplug the cassette deck. There is a simple bypass you can do, and maybe that's what Kevin posted for you. The radio is "listening" for the deck...so if you unplug the deck...the radio sits there doing nothing. For the 2nd gen...you can unplug.

Like Steve, I'm with Edward Jones. My portfolio isn't as conservative as Steve's so when the market fluctuates, as it has this year, I lose or gain more. The downside is I lose if the market dumps. The upside is I make more return on the money overall. I'm at 14% for past 2 years. I'm living off the interest and dividends as my goal is to die and leave the kids the money. So I'm cash poor! If you want the average returns for the current year to date, or past returns...look that up on Internet. Bloomberg is one I use. My portfolio is a mix of equities (stocks), equity funds and bond funds. Most of my heavy hitters return high dividends. Valero is one I like. It's dividend is around 4.8%. I bought it 4 years ago. It's like a yoyo now but still giving the dividends. MFC is another. A Canadian company dealing in insurance and more. Nice dividend. BTW, I re-invest all dividends and interest. Meaning, I buy more stock in the company using the dividend/interest money. That's on automatic. That's how I've been able to grow the portfolio. And stay long...don't panic when the poop hits the fan. it will come back! In fact, when the fan gets clogged with brown stuff, that's when you should buy more! I like Edward Jones. The company will not churn your account. They are conservative as heck. If there is an office near you, just go in and yak with someone. Tell them what your goals are then ask their recommendations. Won't cost you anything...and no..I don't get anything for making the suggestion.

Handlebar adjustments...
videoarizona replied to ChuckYourself's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I hear ya, my friend. Cash in hand would work...but that isn't going to happen at this point in my life. It's not a problem, it's a cash flow problem. After being debt free for years, I've taken on two loans, the truck and the RV trailer. One more payment isn't in the cards. Sigh. LOL! -

2001 RSV speakers started cutting out
videoarizona replied to rrs0725's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That sounds like the amp is getting hot and shutting down. Comes back on when it's cooled off. I didn't mention it before because the amp units are usually trouble free. But then it should also continue to run when the bike is started....unless there is an over voltage going to the amp. Do me a favor. Put a voltmeter on the battery when in aux mode. read the voltage. Then start the bike and check voltage again at the battery. If your stator/regulator is overcharging a touch...it might be to much for the amp. The CB squelch will cut out all speakers, but it would do so intermittently as a CB signal hits the radio. But you haven't mentioned if you turned the CB off. Should be by default....unless it's been on all this time. Motor running shouldn't change that though. Is the display on the radio remote working good? No display problems or hanging up on one source? Don't know what else to mention.....Anyone else??? -
