  1. Puc, I can't understand how Michigan can get away with locking the state down.... Makes no sense either, IMHO. Casey, As far as 2 Lanes that go to nice places, that's what Arizona is really all about. Find Tucson on map. Go south to I-19. Follow that to just south of Green Valley. Zoom in. Look for Elephant Head Rd... It heads east from the East side access Rd. Just south of the rest area on the freeway. Go over the river, take next right. Mt. Hopkins rd. Follow that to the Smithsonian, Fred Whipple observatory guest area. From there the road goes mostly dirt.. All the way to top of mountain. We had our "picnic" about 3/4 of the way up the My Hopkins rd. This pic looks back down the observatory road... At the parking area for amateur astronomers. They have little places where you can set up your telescope. Picture coming next.. I really enjoy riding around Southern Arizona. Every 2 lane is an adventure....Chasing The Front Wheel!
  2. The Admiral wanted to go on a picnic today. So I went down to pick up the trailer and off we went. Up Elephant Head Rd. Stopped where we could turn around and ate lunch. Cooler and peaceful. Much better than being stuck in house! it
  3. Nope. Didn't make it to 105 which I believe is my limit as well.
  4. Darn it....I'm hungry now.....thanks guys!
  5. For the past month, I've been hunkered down in Green Valley and not doing my usual 300 mile round trip back and forth to Phoenix. I've put 24K miles since March of last year, doing just that. So last week, the youngest kidlet decides to move to East Coast...hmmm. We move her out of Tucson and up to Phoenix. Come home back to Green Valley. On way, I decide to put the 420 horses to work to get around an idiot (California plates) hogging the left lane with a "Lemming line" behind him. He would slow down passing a semi, then speed back up afterwards. No one can pass him. Really??! So I wait.....and then it happens. A nice big break in Semi's. I let all 420 horses have their fun.....go zooming past the line and the leader at 100mph. Dam, this is a quick truck. Get back down to normal speed limit and notice the check engine light is on. Uh oh? Get home, call up On Star....do a diagnostics please? Sure. Find nothing of consequence? Get an email from them listing the codes. I call dealer and get in. They check it out and tell me it's a cold start misfire code. But without the additional code for which fuel injector caused the initial code they can't do anything. They clear everything out and home I go. If it happens again with a injector code, they will replace the whole bank the injector is on. That's not good as my research shows that #1 goes then #7 . Then the rest. It's an easy fix but time consuming. A few days pass....Check engine light comes back on. Sigh..... Wifey says we need to take stuff up to the kidlet in Phoenix....OK. I grab a bottle of Techron and off we go in a loaded truck. About 1/3rd of the way up I stop and put that bottle in the tank. Drive on up. Unload truck, spend 2 days with the kid... then head back home. About half way home, I get a clear stretch and decide to give those injectors a rinse job and floor it. Zoom! I come back down to reality a few minutes later and cruise on into Tucson....then notice my check engine light is off. Nice! Light still off and it's been 2 days. Bottom line: Less than 200 miles on a bottle of Techron and my injectors are clean! I'm impressed. Here's my thinking about the injectors. My truck did a lot of miles to Mexico with it's first owner. Pemex gas is not very good stuff in the rurals of Mexico. My 6.2 motor "suggests" premium gas for best performance and economy. Well...I do use premium when I tow or am loaded. Other than that, she runs fine on regular. So I think the P.O. ran a lot of Pemex through the truck and the injectors didn't like it. When I bought the truck last March, it ran rough....and after using Costco Top Tier gas since then, it's run better and better until the check engine light came on. Now it's smooth as silk. I'm going to put another bottle of Techron in at the next fill up as a maintenance thing. Let's see if I can forgo this fuel injector issue for a while..... Anyway, the stuff does work. Stay safe....
  6. FF, Sorry to hear about the job....not good. BUT...Boy do I remember that fish tank! Beautiful! and @cowpuc, yep sure do remember that ride.....and the kids laughing and waving at us as we rode by in their horse drawn cart. Be careful everyone....stay Safe!
  7. Mama, We are doing fine here in Southern Arizona. I put the RSV up at a friend's house in Phoenix so I could ride the mountains once the snow goes away. And am now getting ready to tear into the 89 VR and clean her up a bit and do some annual maintenance. Then I'll ride her around Southern Arizona until she sells. 2 bikes, no waiting! Stay safe, everyone. Life is good...let's keep it that way!
  8. I used a High "E" guitar string to clean my outboard carbs. Both of my carbs got gunked up due to our crap gas and my inattention (I thought I'd drained them both). The E string is a steel string and very small. Worked well on both the 2.5 hp and the 6 hp. Because the string is so small, I don't worry about hurting the brass jet. And I push from the outside of the jet up to dislodge the junk. About $2 at any music store. BTW, I also used regular carb cleaner...it seems to dissolve hard case junk better than Berryman's or Seafoam.
  9. Good Grief! I go off to camp in Death Valley and come home to find this virus thing has taken over and Freebird sick with Double P! Maybe I should stay home.....Not! Don, hopefully, by now, you've kicked that "peenuemonia" stuff and are up and cranking away! If not, Prayers UP! BTW, I really did go tent camping in Death Valley...
  10. Geesh! Looks like I missed another great party! Ah well...Happy Birthday, Boss....
  11. I've got the Shinko 230 Tourmasters on my 89 VR and they are still looking good. The sidewalls will show cracking before I run out of tread. I would go back to the 230's in a heartbeat on that bike. They ride and handle so well... The 05 RSV had Metzlers but they developed issues and were replaced with the Shinko 777HD's. Love that tire as well. But a nail got the rear in Chicago and was replaced with a 230 (all the store had). It's showing wear now after around 4K and I expect I'll replace it this year with another 777HD. The HD version keeps the handling but adds more wear. I like the way the RSV rode on the Shinkos on my cross country. No complaints front or rear. I don't mind the tire changing. I take them off and pay a shop $25 each to mount and balance them. While the tire is off, I do preventive maintenance on front and rear end. I don't want a hard tire that lasts forever. Then my rear end wouldn't get cleaned and greased enough! LOL! Remember, Shinko tires are made from the molds/technology of the Yokohama brand when they were around. One of the best brands for cycle racing.
  12. Count me in as a crew. I'm a long time sailor....since 14 years old. Have settled down to owning our little Aquarius 23...about the easiest boat to rig/launch/retrieve and tow. Seriously easy. That's why I can still sail today at 72 years young. At Roosevelt Lake..by myself...sailing with friends on a light air day.
  13. @cowuc, I forgot how much fun we had that day! Thank you for the reminder... Love ya, Bro! Hugs to Tip! Oh...regarding sucking up a very rear end heavy scoot....yep...a lift with outriggers position as far back as frame allows.... Or a full stand lift. And yes, I would also find a way to strap that scoot down to the jack!
  14. Boss, You "stunned" the nerve bundles in the spine. This shock, will paralyze you for a few minutes, then pain, then things get better....good to go with slight aches. I would recommend an xray and a talk with the doc just to make sure you didn't crack anything and find yourself in worse trouble later one. You don't want to have some lacerations of the spinal cord either... and not know about it... Go see a doc....get a check up. We want you around for a while yet!
  15. The petcock being open won't drain any gas into the carbs as the tank is lower than the carbs....and the Stabil should have worked regardless. I was thinking battery. I just don't like leaving a bike on a trickle charger at all. Maybe a good battery maintainer but not a trickle charger. That seems to destroy batteries after a while. Low voltage or a nearly dead (low cell) battery makes our scoots hard to start and then they don't so good until you've got some charge on. Although the stator should solve that problem one started. Never mind...I'm going back to my 1 st cup of Joe. Not awake yet!
  16. Later in June would be better for me as well....(hint)
  17. Ran the 89 this morning for about 30 minutes. She started right up and ran well. Still for sale on this site, but no where else yet. Will run the RSV tomorrow. Maybe a run on Sunday.
  18. I'm with Marcarl on this. Small was good. And did enjoy meeting each and everyone who braved the rain!! I enjoyed that last one. My First!! We flew in and rented a car to drive there. Pat even asked when the next MD is and did I want to go? Am I lucky or what?? It's just a matter of $$.
  19. Like SpencerPJ, I had a 2004 Yukon XL SLT that got to 219K before I traded her in...the 4 speed trannie didn't have enough gears to pull the trailer (6500lbs) up our loooonnnggg 7% hills... The 5.3 was running very well, didn't burn oil, still getting over 22mpg on highway at 75mph and simply wouldn't quit! Only thing I did was put in new front bearing assemblies at 200K. And it was an easy job as they were a one piece unit. 3 bolts. Took longer to jack up truck and take the wheel and brake assemble off. Not sure about that kind of mileage though. That's pushing it in my book. If you are OK with an engine swap, then even a used 5.3 should be a piece of cake to put in. and should run for another 200K !
  20. Thank God you were there! Prayers Up, Bro!
  21. This is way beyond me but are there holes in the driven shaft that forces oil out to the pinon gear? The final output gear has an oil seal so it needs an oil channel to get out to it. Or does it? Can you determine whether the final drive gear is dry or the pinon gear dry? Then you could check whether you have a clogged oil passage for final drive or a clogged oil passage for the pinion.... Interesting discussion. I'm keeping up trying to learn.
  22. Please tell me more about your hybrid mask. I'm currently using the Quattro. It works well and has proven to be durable and eat to clean. But it is large....
  23. The Mini is louder. Both in motor/vibration noise as well as the air/breathing with the little mask. I put the Mini on a pad and that reduces the vibration type noise... But nothing will help with the mask... Which is dedicated. I bought the mini for use on motorcycle trips, sailing weekends, etc.. So it's in use when I'm alone... And the noise doesn't bother me at all. But yes... It will bother your wife as it does mine. But, I tell my better half it's better than my snoring!!
  24. I'm very pleased with my Resmed S9. It's an autoset unit, adjusts pressurr automatically as I change positions. Had it for 6 years now. No issues at all. The new version is this.. https://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/products/devices/airsense-10-autoset.html I have the humidifier as well which is great for those dry, cold days. Keeps my sinuses moist. I use a full face mask. It was hard to get used to, took about a week. But it forced me to learn to breathe through my nose, which help eliminate my snoring. After ear surgery last Fall...I went 3 months without being able to use CPAP... And I didn't snore at all! Whatever unit you choose, make sure when you go to pick up unit they give you what you asked for. I made sure my Primary Doc wrote a script for the unit. Otherwise, the CPAP distributer was going to give me one that the sleep doc wanted me to have. He gets a kickback for each unit he recommends. It wasn't as portable as what I wanted and didn't have humidifier and heated hose!! Medicare did cover the Resmed S9... And it's small enough to take on airplanes. Regarding really portable, ...Medicare doesn't cover tiny portable type cpaps So I bought my own. The Resmed Air Mini. Tiny thing that I take with me on bike rides! Bottom line, they work very well, are well built, easy to clean and maintain.
