  1. I'm with you, Don. I started riding when dinos ruled the Earth...took a breather for the military, career and family. The first thing I did when the decision was made to get back in the saddle was follow a friend's advice and take the course. I learned many new things, like, how NOT to lay the bike down in an emergency!! Did I feel like an idiot being one of two people who had ridden before? Nope. Felt good knowing if I made a mistake, my bike wouldn't be hurt!! Felt good learning. Felt real good knowing I didn't have to take the state test with some yahoo judging me so I could get my MC endorsement! Good course...I recommend it for everyone...every few years. That plus the advance course is on my radar.
  2. Well, I'm getting cupping on my Rear Metz. Was running 42 pounds pressure in tire. Guess I'd better kick it up to 50lbs and watch it carefully. Thanks Puc and everyone else for the write ups on the Metz tires!
  3. Real good find! Need snaps for the sailboat too!! Thanks.
  4. Is that the specific model battery for our 1st generation scoots? If so, that's expensive but probably worth it. Wonder how it would handle the Arizona heat??
  5. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Prayers up!
  6. I too have thoroughly enjoyed your posts! Touring means different things to different people. By following your posts, I have been able to live vicariously through your meanderings of this great country of ours!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Safe trip home!
  7. Yep...got one as well....good to know that this works..
  8. Hmmm, I have an 89 and don't ride in 108! But do ride close to 100 degrees. My temps stay in the middle of the gauge. As far as I know, the fan hasn't come on yet...even when running up one of those hills on the way back from Payson a week ago. I would make sure the connection for the temp gauge is clean...since you stated everything else is good. On right side, lower front..under chrome piece. Regarding a higher CFM fan. Maybe. But the amp draw will be higher as well, since the motor is working harder to turn the fan blade. Have you ever gone into the red zone? If not...and your temp is stable even in Phoenix traffic...your cooling is probably working well. david
  9. Russell, Done...thanks for email address. david
  10. Sounds simple enough. Thanks! Ordered both as per Kevin's suggestion. Guess now I get to get the seat off and figure out the antenna run. Want to keep it as clean as possible. Thanks, again, gentlemen.
  11. Glad you came through that OK, Don! But I would like to have an answer to his question. Where do I send the $5 to? Since I dropped my VR in Pine trying to walk it out of a driveway ditch...sigh. Embarrassed but I learned never to do that again! david
  12. Thinking out loud here... Sent an email to two antenna companies asking their advice regarding which antenna would be best for my VR. Been two weeks. Not a peep from either one. Both Firestik and Francis haven't responded. Amazes me how customer service with some companies has gone by the wayside. I have the original and was thinking of replacing the antenna "system". Cable and stick. Currently no resistance noted between antenna post and ground. Oh and the stainless inside top piece is broken off as well. So can't tune it. The teeny set screw is stripped so nothing I can do short of drilling it out and using a larger set screw. Little things I'm finding in this new to me, VR. Sigh! So...time to check it out.
  13. Yep! I saw Easyriders post on another thread. So thanks to him for starting this! Enjoy!
  14. Wonderfully funny thread! Thanks, Puc for another smile!!
  15. The new ACE hardware store near me had a gazillion metric O Rings and a few of those pesky Rubbers I need for my side panel. But none that fit. So off to Tucson dealer today and ordered 4. About $3 each. Be here in a week. Thanks everyone. Thanks to you guys, I found a close supply of O Rings!!
  16. While sailing around the San Juan Islands, I rented one of these for the day. Kind of like a Vespa - Can Am Style.
  17. Thanks, guys! I'm off to hardware store first, then Mother Yamaha. Didn't think they would still be available...but guess they are used by lots of bikes since they are... david
  18. Love that "Pull Before Flight". That is cool! Great idea!
  19. Working on VR today....turned on power and noticed an E1 and E6 blinking back at me. Took connector apart to Class module, cleaned and good to go. Guess I had to much dielectric grease in there!!! Manual says if you ever get two error readings at same time, one of them is wrong. I went for the loose/dirty connection theory. Lucked out, I guess! yay! (whew)
  20. Yep...sorry about that. In looking over the bike yesterday in prep for a weekend or early riding...I couldn't find any pads left in right front! YIKES! I heard no noise or scrapping. So...in kind of a hurry to get a set and put them on. BTW, found out the hard way that brake fluid really is detrimental to plastic. Remembered everything about changing pads except to keep the master cylinder covered during bleeding. Crap. I really don't like this aging "thing". Forgeting something I used to be able to do blindfolded! Yes...between you in Tucson...me in GV..and Star in Benson...we should get together. A friend on his HD from Phoenix and I want to ride up along the NM border....Rt 191, 180 then 260 from Safford to Payson... would be a nice two day trip when it's cooler. Plus, I've seen two other VR's (1st gens) around GV but haven't been able to stop them and chat. Puc, Maybe the next time through you can plan it so it's cooler and come to the southern part of AZ. We do have some great rides...nice two lanes...especially between Payson and either north or east! I've been here since 1969....and rode or driven on most of the roads. ++++ P.S. may run to Rio Rico for breakfast on Saturday...diner opens at 7am exit 17? or 9am on Sunday?? 602-418-5814 david
