  1. No side bets. I'm still sitting back grinning at what you have done! Good Job!
  2. Eck...I love it. That sounds similar to my day as well. Up early...throw open the shades, make the coffee. If it's nice, I go sit outside and enjoy the view with my first cup. Read a little. Watch a few minutes of the local news to see the weather. Take an exercise walk around development. Make breakfast and another cup. Then open garage door, walk around both bikes...smile. Check my to do list and start my day with house/bike stuff. When done, take shower and go out and do outdoor stuff.,,ya know..shopping, etc.. And so on....ride when weather says "yes", do whatever, whenever. Volunteer for local groups. And in between all that, check emails, Venture site, talk to friends around country and eat! Not bored at all....always something to do.
  3. Regarding rear brake lock up and sliding out. If you can't keep yourself from feathering the rear brake to avoid the lockup...you can learn to keep your head up and looking straight ahead. Doing so will keep you going straight...instead of laying down. Try it on an empty parking lot some day. It does work. But best bet is to use both...feather the rear and keep head straight...
  4. djh3, You built a headset cable? I'm all ears. I have the J&M headset built into my helmet with the 5 pin connection to the stock 1st gen audio system. I'd appreciate any suggestions you have as to how I can use my earbuds instead of my speakers in the helmet. Want to retain all the capabilities I now have but need better wind isolation. thanks! david
  5. Not good news, Jeff. But it is good that you are still there. I guess I have to wonder about the ownership of the company...let's face it...when you lay off the workers but keep management...the company has nothing left to sell. No pretty widgets, no fancy services...zippo. Ah well...time to crank up the resume and vitae...time to do some closet marketing. You might also think in terms of an exit strategy. If they do decide to let you go at some point...maybe offer them the opportunity to still use your services as a consultant for hire. You pick the price. I suggested that to my wife a number of years ago...she poopoo'd the idea until one day her ex-boss called and asked if she would work for them that way. She took my advice for $$ and was amazed that they would pay her that much until she realized they didn't have to pay anything else...no health care, no taxes, etc.. So same thought to you. They may still need your services, just not full time. Worth a shot. They can only say no... Good luck and hang in there!
  6. I see there is a plug and play for 2nd gen offered for sale by a member, anyone make a similar unit for us 1st gen's? TIA, david
  7. I'm with you, Don. I started riding when dinos ruled the Earth...took a breather for the military, career and family. The first thing I did when the decision was made to get back in the saddle was follow a friend's advice and take the course. I learned many new things, like, how NOT to lay the bike down in an emergency!! Did I feel like an idiot being one of two people who had ridden before? Nope. Felt good knowing if I made a mistake, my bike wouldn't be hurt!! Felt good learning. Felt real good knowing I didn't have to take the state test with some yahoo judging me so I could get my MC endorsement! Good course...I recommend it for everyone...every few years. That plus the advance course is on my radar.
  8. Well, I'm getting cupping on my Rear Metz. Was running 42 pounds pressure in tire. Guess I'd better kick it up to 50lbs and watch it carefully. Thanks Puc and everyone else for the write ups on the Metz tires!
  9. Real good find! Need snaps for the sailboat too!! Thanks.
  10. Is that the specific model battery for our 1st generation scoots? If so, that's expensive but probably worth it. Wonder how it would handle the Arizona heat??
  11. Wishing you a speedy recovery! Prayers up!
  12. I too have thoroughly enjoyed your posts! Touring means different things to different people. By following your posts, I have been able to live vicariously through your meanderings of this great country of ours!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Safe trip home!
  13. Yep...got one as well....good to know that this works..
  14. Hmmm, I have an 89 and don't ride in 108! But do ride close to 100 degrees. My temps stay in the middle of the gauge. As far as I know, the fan hasn't come on yet...even when running up one of those hills on the way back from Payson a week ago. I would make sure the connection for the temp gauge is clean...since you stated everything else is good. On right side, lower front..under chrome piece. Regarding a higher CFM fan. Maybe. But the amp draw will be higher as well, since the motor is working harder to turn the fan blade. Have you ever gone into the red zone? If not...and your temp is stable even in Phoenix traffic...your cooling is probably working well. david
  15. Sounds simple enough. Thanks! Ordered both as per Kevin's suggestion. Guess now I get to get the seat off and figure out the antenna run. Want to keep it as clean as possible. Thanks, again, gentlemen.
  16. Thinking out loud here... Sent an email to two antenna companies asking their advice regarding which antenna would be best for my VR. Been two weeks. Not a peep from either one. Both Firestik and Francis haven't responded. Amazes me how customer service with some companies has gone by the wayside. I have the original and was thinking of replacing the antenna "system". Cable and stick. Currently no resistance noted between antenna post and ground. Oh and the stainless inside top piece is broken off as well. So can't tune it. The teeny set screw is stripped so nothing I can do short of drilling it out and using a larger set screw. Little things I'm finding in this new to me, VR. Sigh! So...time to check it out.
  17. Yep! I saw Easyriders post on another thread. So thanks to him for starting this! Enjoy!
  18. Wonderfully funny thread! Thanks, Puc for another smile!!
  19. The new ACE hardware store near me had a gazillion metric O Rings and a few of those pesky Rubbers I need for my side panel. But none that fit. So off to Tucson dealer today and ordered 4. About $3 each. Be here in a week. Thanks everyone. Thanks to you guys, I found a close supply of O Rings!!
  20. While sailing around the San Juan Islands, I rented one of these for the day. Kind of like a Vespa - Can Am Style.
  21. Thanks, guys! I'm off to hardware store first, then Mother Yamaha. Didn't think they would still be available...but guess they are used by lots of bikes since they are... david
