  1. Interesting readings. Where are you connecting the SWR meter? So you swapped antennas and the readings changed. One antenna should be optimized for CB and one not. The CB antenna should have a loading coil on it and a way to adjust the length... Make sure that is the antenna you are using for the CB. david
  2. On my 1st gen, no. Sounds like feedback between speakers and mike....? david
  3. Perfect! Thank you, Kevin!
  4. Favor? Go to the last few pages of the shop manual and look at the electrical schematic for the bike. Are the wire color legends readable? On the scanned manual we can download, when I zoom in enough to wehre I could read the color legends, they are blurred! Please let me know how clear the printing is... thanks! david
  5. Thinking maybe one of those little digital volt meters.....miniscule draw, switched, hmmm.
  6. Makes sense, thx. I'll file that away for when I change the battery out so I can change the resistor. Nice to know a lot of my bike is original.
  7. Hmmm..will put that on the back burner and let is sizzle for a while... thx
  8. And I have the older style battery....with sensor.... Holding a charge well....guess I'll leave it in. Plus there is a resister in-line with the sensor lead. Interesting what P.O.'s have done.... david
  9. Yay...I guessed correctly. Hmm...now wondering if I could use it for something?? Hah! Thank you!
  10. Wonder if it's the air vent control valve for California models?
  11. Ok I'll bite.. Will you please tell me about that mysterious connector with the green color? And...I have two fuse boxes, the old one sitting on top of the battery and a newer fuse type sitting in front of the battery holder.
  12. LOL! Geesh....well everything works and bike runs fine...so...who knows??
  13. Followed advice here.... Took battery box out and checked the wires going into coils. 3 out of 4 were clean with no arcing issues. The 4th had a touch of corrosion on the end. Cleaned the coil tower insides and cut off the corroded end. Put back together. Only question I ahve...is on the left side next to the rear coil there is a green 2 wire plug. Can't see the colors of the wire....but it's not connected to anything. Could not see a mate anywhere nearby. Any idea on what it is?
  14. Sounds reasonable to me...
  15. Monty, drove past that area twice in the past year. Dam...wish I had known it was there...... Thanks for sharing...cool looking place! (note to self: gotta leave credit card at home)
  16. Hmm...I've been thinking of doing this... Did you write up anything about your modification? Did you add a resistance unit (or simialr) so the LED blinkers work properly? Did you simply replace the bulbs in the turn signals and tail/brake...or use a custom tail/brake kit that plugs into the standard bulb socket? Thanks, david
  17. +1 on the thanks. Love those guys! I love the oldies... david
  18. I enjoy reading about this stuff. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Randy. Hoping you are getting some pictures as well.... Always like to learn about the scoot I ride!
  19. Well done! Thank you for sharing...and love the song!
  20. Impressive, guys. Geesh...no wonder my heart beat hits redline when I go to pass someone on the freeway....these are fast bikes! Shift to 4th, look at speedo and see I'm so far past the 75mph speedlimit I'm already in jail without chance of parole!
  21. Ouch! Always sad to see when the weather does this, but that is the boating life. But glad to hear you are both OK...!! Well..been there and had fun with that. Dry her out, clean her up, add a new stereo and enjoy! Lots of summer left! djd
  22. That's what it looks like. Trouble with trickle chargers is they don't know when to quit charging. A battery tender type maintainer can be left on for days and will only charge if the battery needs it. Battery Tender is a brand name and they make little maintainer chargers. You can buy one for well under $50 and it comes with the pig tail connector that you attach to the battery. Similar to what you had there... david
  23. Have to say, I've ridden all over the country on my Yamaha and a little Austin Healey (43 HP). Colorado was the prettiest state....but you do lose a good chunk of power at altitude. Timing and fuel mixture are set for your normal riding altitude, any changes will reduce power. And it is noticable. Nothing to worry about, just plan your riding accordingly. IE, Don't pass going up a long hill at 8,000 feet altitude...you might not make it in the distance available. I never had a problem....just slowed down and enjoyed the scenery... djd
