  1. On my VStar 950T - These are little 2inch halogens from WalMart. $20. Had to put tiny screws in the bezel as they simply snap on/off...and didn't want the lens to vibrate out...Actually work very well...I use them 24/7 and they light up the sides of the road nicely. They came with 50 watt bulbs, but I put in 20 watt which is what you see here...the 950T doesn't have the charging system of the VR. They aren't LED...but they work! It wouldn't surprise me if I'll be able to get LED bulbs for these little lights soon... I'm thinking of using similar units on VR under the cowling...maybe next to the side vents....
  2. Patti and Puc have some good ideas. I agree we need a single high end item for the GP. The rest can be donated and should be useful bike items, easily shipped without being taxed (VAT) to those countries overseas. I already have two GPS's, two laptops, 3 computers, ad nauseum. Trying to get rid of stuff like that....but they are great for "Door Prizes), etc.. Things for our 1st & 2nd gens would be always appreciated...like the MP3 box from Venture Audio Link, or a solar charger/maintainer, a Battery Tender.... Inexpensive but good stuff we can all use. Any of our member vendor stuff, like Butler's seat mod, Digital Carb Sync and....you get the idea...(flags & mounts, bells)... I also like the idea of a poll...generic in nature. Not sure I would ask for specific items in pole, rather catagories like: "cash", "little putput bike", etc.. My .03cents...(inflation, don't cha know) david
  3. Good job, Joe! So what's the next target???
  4. Good to hear, JR. But when you get back, I would recommend that you do take the circuit board out (pics and instructions on this site), touch a hot solder gun to the solder joints on the underside of the connector. It's only a matter of "when" those joints become intermittant. Our VR's are almost bullet proof...but it's important to get to learn your beastie...besides it's fun! Have a safe and wonderful trip!
  5. I would contact them and ask. Send them pics.... Maybe they will help you out...or give you a credit for a new version... Can't hurt.... Sorry to hear!
  6. Max.....here's one for ya... this is my favorite... http://objflicks.com/thoseoldwesterns.htm Get the popcorn out and enjoy! Oh...I know the video/slideshow is virus free...but I wouldn't try any other buttons on this page. The original website is no more...so...
  7. Well...took the VR out early this morning. My normal Saturday 2 hour run. Went down to the RR tracks nearest me...no trains! Usually, they keep a long string of empty cars with 2 to 6 engines on the siding every other week. Nothing this time. Wonder if the derailment last week screwed up all the schedules?? So no dice for me TODAY....I'll keep my eyes wondering!
  8. Take a "Memories Break": http://safeshare.tv/w/FEDEwZHZXu Enjoy, david
  9. It's all gone to the East of us. Nothing here south of Tucson.
  10. Unless my brain has taken a vacation today (entirely possible), memory says at 4,000rpm I'm at about 72mph. 4500rpm is around 80. I know my speedo is about +2mph off.
  11. Ah rats...wish I had read this. I'm about 7 miles south of him! Well...next time. Glad you had a great time!!
  12. Chrome here...no problems either...
  13. I was thinking a similar thing...except I'd have to take off the gloves. Most gloves today don't work on touch screens...
  14. hmmm.....
  15. Jeff, Interesting. When I laid mine down last month(paid$5), she went all the way...slowly but was resting on her side on engine guards and top of side fairing. Scratched fairing edge on the dirt. Probably due to the dirt road I was on was running downhill and she went down on the downhill side. I can lay the 950Tourer down on the guards and she's at a 50* angle or so. But the not 89 VR. I guess my question or thought is the 1ST Gen Vr "will or will not" lay only on the engine guards...or does she go all the way down 90 degrees. Assuming a flat surface... david P.S. Doug... Glad you both are OK!!
  16. Mike, Don't know...I'm just a user. I was just making a suggestion about this little computer... Tom is the person building his digital board. He has already played with some MAP sensors...see beginning of this post. But I think your idea has merit. To be able to easily access the status of the carbs but simply plugging a device in to a connector...or leaving the little chip onboard for easy access... BTW, Join up...you will find members here with Gullwing experiences as well as HD and, of course, Yamaha. Best $12 you've spent. Search and enjoy the info here! david
  17. How about using this little guy to run your program to sync the v4? http://tinyurl.com/k8e8aak
  18. I'm not riding in the sand on an 800 pound scoot just to get a picture of a sandy dry wash. Nope! I'm waiting for the next target....maybe I'll have better luck!
  19. That's what I get for following directions! Even said on package, compressed air not needed! Geesh!
  20. To me, the 1st Gen VR is the start of the touring bike classification. It and the BMW of the same era were very much touring bikes with an attitude. The 1st Gens have the comfort, storage and handling....with better seat positions!
  21. In my case about a month ago it was bad gas. I put some SeaFoam in and then new gas and ran it out...then a new tank of fresh gas...and all is fine.
  22. Yep...but much better quality. They are very well made! Superior to the cheap ones on the internet... I was fighting to get them on...using soap and water and a big screwdriver to separate one side so I could pull it up. Never even thought of tearing apart...they are that strong!
  23. The originals I ordered finally came in. Took about 30 minutes to "slip" them on. Yea right. Followed directions...not an easy chore...but they did finally go on. They are confortable and just enough bigger to make it easier on my hands!
  24. That reminds me...where do you all mount a camera on a 1st gen? We go so fast, I worry about where to mount mine....
