  1. Nice! Good idea actually! Be able to work underneath at a nice sitting postion rather than crawling on floor! Thanks for Doc's...I've seen them before but couldn't find. I downloaded this time so they are ready for printing!
  2. Me too. Had that happen outside of Mineola, Texas many moons ago. Fully loaded DS6C at freeway speed...wallowed back and forth....slowed down and coasted to a stop. Credit my past dirt bike riding in New Hampshire woods to keeping myself upright and "sashaying" to the side of the road!
  3. Metzler 880's. I don't know how old...they "look" new...but had serious cupping when I got bike from underinflation. Cupping is reduced now due to my increasing air pressure to just under max of tires. Enclosed two pics show tire wear (lack of) and separation in tire. Cold this morning so doesn't look like much...but after ten miles at 70mph on Friday afternoon, the bulge was pronounced and easily felt....
  4. No Amish around here. Did find a buggy though...but was riding VStar 950T. No snow either.....so youse guys and gals have fun finding this stuff...I'll until something comes up that I can get! Glad to see this thread is still alive!
  5. Well...this past weekend was set for a nice run for the VR and I And my buddy with his HD Ultra. From home port in Green Valley south of Tucson...north to Phoenix, then I-17 to Flagstaff, down 89A to Sedona, Cottonwood, Phoenix then back to GV. Two days with overnights in Phoenix. Roughly 600 mile weekend. Left GV after lunch on Friday and got about ten miles at 70mph when the bike started shaking gently. Few more miles and I knew something was wrong. Pulled over and found the rear tire had a large crack developing on one of the tread ridges. I turned around and came home on back roads at 35. Swapped my gear to VStar 950T and took off. The only thing I can figure out is that the P.O. must have kept the tires at Yamaha pressures, not Metz tire pressures. When I got the bike 8 months ago..the tire pressures were right at factory recommendations. So...I put the pressures up to 44 rear, 38 front and liked the ride and handling. I ride mostly single so didn't need max load pressure. But guess the damage was already done by the P.O with the lower pressures.. Tomorrow I'll try to get some pics and post them. So guess I need to find some time to start tearing down the rear end of my 89 VR so I can get the wheel off. Going to check the drive train while I'm there....may have the dreaded broken shaft/nut since I have noise on decel and a slight intermittent oil leak by kickstand. Geesh...hope I remember where everything goes when it's time to put it all back together...! Grins!
  6. LOL! I was riding the 950T 2 up last year and went through the speed trap on St Rt 89 between Congress and Prescott. (look it up on a map) They had two traps set....but since I was on the 950...I can't corner very fast as the footrests scrape easily and my wifemate would jab me in the side everytime. So I was only 10 over. Couple of crotch rocket guys got caught though.....(grins) . So Puc...when are you and Tippy moving down this way? Come ride from September to June...each year. Do Maintenance in summer!
  7. I agree with the "Like" and "Thanks" buttons. There is a difference between the two and I "LIKE" the option to show someone I "LIKE" their post as well as "Thank" them for posting! So "THANKS"! Boss...
  8. You can get to Sedona VIA: Phoenix, Wickenburg, Prescott, Jerome then Sedona. Nice twisties...but cops do patrol for bikers who speed....
  9. Geesh! Can't believe we missed everyone..... I was up in Sedona and 89A on Saturday....rode up the canyon to 6K feet elevation, then turned around and headed back to Sedona. Continued on 89A to Cottonwood then picked up I-17 and went back to Phoenix. Spent the weekend in Phoenix. Two pics from Sunset Point rest area on I-17 and one pic from Sedona. Buddy's HD Ultra and my 950T. Would have been on the Venture but had a tire separate and had to swap bikes!
  10. "Head Gasket"....I like that, TJ! Seriously, Scott. Here wishing you get through this without any problems and your healing is fast and easy! Remember, this too shall pass. ...and you'll be back on the road soon enough! God Bless and PRAYERS UP! david
  11. Appreciate the write up! Glad you found the problems. Nice to see someone go through their scoot in a logical sequence, then report back the results. Thankfully, most people here do that as well... Sorry to see you go. david
  12. I'm using Yamalube 20-50 and have a tiny leak periodically near kickstand. No clue yet where it's coming from.
  13. Whoa....glad your testing went well! Good to hear about the armour. Never heard of D30. Guess it's time for me to re-think my wearing gear and update to the new stuff. Thanks for the report and glad you are OK!
  14. Yikes! Glad you are OK! Take care of you for now...another RSV is waiting for you! david
  15. Fantastic news! Congrats!
  16. George, wishing you luck and a great ride! Be safe! (P.S. the 650 would do it, too! I loved mine)
  17. Here's a surefire way to "Stop the Blues!" I know we frown on trailers here, but ya know....putting your scoot on a trailer and coming south for a week or so is always an option for those who love snowblowers. U Haul rents... Just saying...
  18. I agree. Rick re-did my 950 VStar stock seat and I like it better than the Mustang I spent way to much money on. As soon as I get my sheckles saved, will send my 89 seat to Rick for his magic!
  19. I agree, Jeff. Sure would like a vented replacement for my 1st gen 89....hint, Don! For now I'm looking at Clearview to see what they will come up with. I have the tall Clearview with re-curve, tint and vent on the 950T and it is very nice.
  20. Guitar high "E" string is good for cleaning out passages and stuff. Very thin but strong enough to push through debris. And it won't make the holes larger... This probably won't help you at this point...but if you can use it...they are less than $2.
  21. Well...Happy Birthday to you all on this wonderful Veterans Day!!
  22. No one has mentioned plug wires and plugs. Pulled my plugs and wires today and replaced with new. The wires must have been original as they still had factory stickers showing what cyclinder number on both ends. Not many miles, 38K...but 1989 means 25 years. So I bet that will help my mpg! Saved two plugs for spares...threw front two away as they were corroded on outside. All old plugs were gapped differently from .031 to .035. All had 145ohms resistance as well.... Easy to do with info on site....only #1 wire gave me fits on threading through the loom.\ Suggest you check plugs. david
  23. Went for a long run to Phoenix two weeks ago. Next morning...about two tablespoons of coolant on ground. Rode back home and no leak. No leak since. Coolant bottle was right on mark, too. What is going on? Couldn't see any source of leak either. Ah well...another ride coming up from Tucson to Flagstaff then down to Sedona and back. We shall see.
