  1. Shinko TourMasters front and rear. Top pressure on tire for rated capacity is 42 pounds. High capacity tires.
  2. thought I would add: Nothing was done to wheel bearings..they were well greased,I left them alone. Bushings look good in rear. Rear shock dampening on #2. Both shocks set for medium ride on auto. Nothing done to steering...it tracked beautifully with no wobble even with hands off (did the test after I first got her). This isn't a wobble per se...more like a sashay....gentle and constant at 75mph....like the top of the bike is leaning left/right in a gentle cycle. Slow down to 60 ish and it's gone.
  3. UPDate: First test ride since pinion gear repair. Mucho quieter now during decelleration! So...guess that was the problem. Ran very nice. Two issues: 1: Battery warning now blinking - will check out later...but charging nicely so figure it's low on fluid... 2: The bike now has a slight wobble(?) like a sashay....at 75 mph. Sashay seems to be affecting the top of the bike...ie...I can feel it up top, not down below like a tire wobble. Checked both tires and rims....they look like they are tracking fine. Both tires are slightly out of round at one point...but that could be from sitting. Runout on both tires and rims is very low...I can't see it or feel it. Fairings, hard saddle bags and travel trunk are all tight. Running both tires at 40 pounds....out of a max 42. Nothing else was changed or disturbed. Ideas?

  5. LOL! Sure is pretty to look at that, though. I blamed a buddy who just moved in from New Hampshire for bringing the cold and snow. He agrees it's probably his fault. Warmer this morning in my hometown of Portsmouth, than here in Green Valley! I'm waiting for mid week...back to the 70's...then I can go test ride the scoot and see if I put everything back together in the right place. No spare parts left over...that's a good thing, right?
  6. I start with a flat sheet doubled over...it ends up in a crushed ball all by itself after lots of use!
  7. No skating rinks around here either......and the closest is in Tucson...indoors. Not going to get my bike in there....sigh.
  8. Guess it's my turn.... Wife and I in younger days, me shooting in desert moons ago, and current pic with youngest kidlet.
  9. Want to take a moment and thank all of you for being there throughout this past year...my first year with my 1st Gen VR! Your help has been very much appreciated! Wishing you Happy Holidays... and... Health, Wealth and Happiness for the coming New Year! david
  10. Two: 1989 VR and a 2009 Vstar 950Tourer.
  11. One of my clients said I was the "Poet Laureate" of Arizona video and nicknamed me "videoarizona". Been using it ever since.
  12. Thanks guys, but you aren't going to believe this..... After two days of wrestling, jacking, grunting and swearing.....a friend came over and said "So what seems to be the problem here?". I grabbed hold of the wheel and went to show him how the wheel would hangup on the various points...and....well....it went on!! That simple. No muscle, no serious effort....just went in the slot like it was greased. No clue....but yes, it did have to go in at an angle (as it came out)...but even then...it wouldn't budge..hanging up on the drive rim, the right side swing arm and the swing mount for the brake bracket. Needless to say, my friend just looked at me...that's it...just looked! Guess it was his presence that "convinced" the wheel to jump into the sprocket and line up perfectly! Thanks for the thoughts! david
  13. OK.. having lots of fun trying to get rear wheel back in. Don't want to let the air out of tire and don't want to loosen the rear drive bolts either since I have it nicely aligned. Even with a jack it's just not going in. Same size tire as old one, too... Other ideas or tips?? thanks! david
  14. Sorry....no...Version 2 of our Ventures. I gotta learn to be more specific...
  15. Brian, I have same jack...doubt I'll ever use it with the Venture. Just don't trust it with that backwards release......
  16. Since I have the rear end apart...decided to do some cleaning. 30 minutes later here is the result on one of my mufflers. Simple aluminum foil and muscle power...
  17. I went to WalMart and bought these craft touchup paints in craft area. $.50. So far I haven't matched color perfectly. Trying different mixes of colors. May just go with the black on right on both sides.....
  18. I had the same problem on a dirt road in Pine this summer, Richard. Walked her backwards to turn around and backed into a driveway...there was a dip...and when I put my feet down to stabilize the bike...nothing but air. Down she went on left side...all the way on the side. Took two of us...pushing with everything we had to get her back up. Granted that was a downhill fall...but still. I might have been able to get her up if she was 6 more inches up. Wider engine guards would have done that. My VStar 950T has wide bars and they don't get in the way of turns, but you can lay the bike over and she sits nice and pretty on the guard. Easy to pick up and she weighs over 650 pounds! Besides that, I wasn't pleased with the way the upper fairing was "sanded" down to the joint by the incident. I think I would willingly save my pennies for wider guards and a lifting bracket like Carbon One makes here for 2nd generation bikes... david
  19. That's how I'm working on my rear end. Got the idea right here and it works!!
  20. I haven't gone anywhere in a while. Working on rear end...
  21. Update: Yesterday and today. Got the boot off protecting the ujoint and found the intermediate shaft good and tight. Nothing broken there. Whew. So rather than try and take the swing arm off (not fun for me since I don't have a socket large enough for the top bolts!)...I decided to take apart the used swingarm/rear end/driveshaft that I bought. The rear end (differential) looked fine. I cleaned and greased it up, then a buddy came over and we finessed the shaft into the ujoint. I snugged up the 4 bolts with the axle in for alignment. Going to leave everything as is until the new fuel filter comes in. Also put new pads on the rear brake as they were getting low. Opened the observation hole on the MC so I could bleed out the excess fluid as I pushed the pistons in. After installing the new pads, I used the old trick of taking corners of a clean rag and twisting it so it would fit down the MC fill hole to soak up more fluid. Wanted to get the fluid level down to where it should be. Amazing how much fluid comes out with a little capillary action! So that's done. There isn't any play on swing arm and eveything looks good there. Would have been nice to grease the top bushings but I'm not going to go and look for another large socket. More to come
  22. I realize there is another posting about protable cameras like the GoPro...but this little guy takes the cake. It's not really HD or waterproof....but it does seem to work from what I've read from others... Pilot Automotive Dash Cam - Walmart.com david
  23. Oops, just saw that Mike posted this a week ago....sorry!

  25. Parts came in yesterday. 5 days early. Guess I'd better get crackin cleaning and such!
