  1. I went with the Shinko 230 Tourmasters...front and rear. I know the rear will wear out faster than a Dunlop...but I like the handling and ride. Add the price differential and knowing when the rear tire goes, I can lube and check out the rear end and brakes...I'm OK with Shinko!
  2. Me three. Rick modified my VStar 950T seat and it's a huge difference! I'm just waiting for the youngest to stop spending my $$.... "hey honey..it's my turn!"
  3. Looks sweet to me too! Nice..... P.S. (PO probably got some ribbing from HD friends-so he sold)
  4. Lenny, Short answer: The separate antennas are because each antenna is optimize for the particular frequencies they are meant to use. AM/FM radio freq's are way different than CB frequencies. The Venture Royale gets away with one antenna by using a match box that matches the different frequency signals to their respective transmiters/receivers and combines them to one antenna. It's a compromise that works fairly well if the antenna, wire and coil is in good shape.
  5. It's like the new chat room, I think. Or something else like it.....
  6. Done: Registered Thanks for info...
  7. Puc, I'm lovin the read! I do hope you will make this into a little book. Nice to follow your adventures in real time when you and Tip are on the road, but it's really nice to re-make the adventure with you later on! Thank you for your efforts and the memories you are sharing with us. I'm waiting for the next installment! david
  8. Watch that BP! Prayers UP!
  9. Prayers UP!
  10. Test Ride results for today: Bike ran great. Smooth with little buffeting. Loose muffler must have been the culprit....which I find hard to believe...but ran good for over 50 miles. Rear disc got hot to touch.....but that was it. After long 75mph run, I pulled into a friend's house, we threw bike up on center stand...and I could still spin rear wheel with fingers. So...yea I still have brake dragging but I'm not going to worry about it. Will clean up the rear brake system at some point soon. MPG's are down...probably brake drag. two bars left on gauge with 100 miles on clock. Usually got more. Put some more miles on new tires and brakes and see where the mpg's are at that point. Good run today...sorry no pictures. No one to take pics of me zooming by!
  11. I've been running 20/50 on my VStar 950T since day 1. When I got the 89 VR, I changed oil to that as well. Here in Arizona we do have heat...so I felt a little extra viscosity insurance wouldn't hurt. I like the way both bikes shift and run. I run dino oil...Yamalube 20w50 in both scoots.
  12. Update: Research on old posts found note about the packing on the exhaust comes loose on right side and get's lost during R&R. Sure enough...nothing there on right side muffler so clamp doesn't have enough "material" to clamp the muffler tight to exhaust pipe. Bought some silver repair tape, cut and wrapped. Muffler back on a tight. So now everything is tight. "Sashaying" could have been muffler moving around during buffeting. Maybe....Doesn't matter, found muffler issue and fixed it. Still concerned about possible brake drag on rear...(after new pads)...but will test ride again today. If still getting rear rotor hot, I'll go ahead and drain & clean the rear system as pinhole relief might be plugged. Need to do anyway at some point, as it's about the one system left I haven't gone over since I bought bike. Can't hurt. I'm enjoying working on "The Scoot". Fun to get greased again...!
  13. Ordered my two....thanks, Don
  14. Richard, neither does mine....
  15. I never have since I got the bike last Spring. I am concerned that the warning light didn't come on until the cells were exposed. guess that's Yamaha's way....And me being an idiot trusting the warning light! david
  16. Funny thing...the battery warning light came on yesterday. Took out the little yellow cell plugs and the cells were dry. Filled with a pipet and distilled water. Back on battery Tender for a nice slow charge...
  17. Thanks for email contact. Email sent!!
  18. Thank you Kic for honoring a Vet! I wish I could be with you.....not sure how the Honor Guard thing works...let's talk more about this when we meet. Thank you for bringing Harrys situation to our attention and please send my Blessings and Wishes to his wife and family! david
  19. Any mummy type bag that is made for backpackers/hiking. These are usually very light and easily packed into a small round bundle. Mine is good to around 40degrees...was under $50....and weighs about 2 pounds. Hiking equipment ...like stoves, etc., are very small and light compared to normal camping stuff. I carry my hiking bag in the sailboat and it works year around. Hope to soon start camping on bike...so will carry tiny stove, sleeping bag, small pillow, ground roll on bike. I even have a tent for hikers that is quiet small and light, but big enough for two, that I may carry as well. But we shall see when the time comes! I recommend going to REI or similar hiking equipment place and talk to a sales person about this stuff. Lots of good technology out now. Agree about mummy bags....my feet get to darn hot. BUT, they are light and small....
  20. Yikes! Glad you are OK!
  21. Thanks for the picture Kev......Mine looks the same. Dick...my pinch bolt is almost closed....so maybe yours is fine.
  22. Whew...that's where it is. Thanks for confirmation. Not shown is where the bracket is in relation to the washer and swing arm.
  23. Test ride 2: Both tire pressures at Max...42 pounds. Suspension back to "Low" on auto. Slight sashay at 70mph on up. BUT...only with turbulance! Took a back road and cranked it up with no traffic around...stable. Fairings are tight, fenders tight, saddlebags tight.....Only thing I've found is right muffler wiggles a little. The nut at the joint isn't tight enough I guess....so when she cools down, I'll make sure I have the clamp in the right spot and tighten down again. Axles torque'd, etc.. Do have the rear brake rotor getting hot...so there is drag there and the front left is warm. So I'll bleed more fluid out and check again. I put the rear axle washer between the caliper spacer and the frame...right? Not between the caliper spacer and the axle...? Can't find that in manual.....
  24. Me for two (2). I need to be symetrical. david
  25. I hear ya...but...why would that change? I didn't touch the steering...
