1. Dan...yep...glad to hear you are OK. I guess what "might" happen, with deer and humans is what scares me the most. Agreed on wearing the gear. I do all the time and it gets hot down here in Arizona! Wish I could ride with a shirt during those slightly warm days in the summer...but I've seen (and filmed) to many burn cases...and that's what road rash is...a 3rd degree burn. I know I don't want to deal with that! Heal quick and keep your "patience jar" full and handy! You'll be back to riding soon! david
2. Oh...hadn't thought of that, Gary. Amazing how little things that we know disappear as we age. Thanks!
3. Thanks, Seaking.... I appreciate you addressing all the points I brought up. The PO had the tire pressures even lower...at 32F/36R ! But I agree...I think I'll kick the front up a few more pounds. I also like the idea of some air in the front shock. I'll go for 5lbs and see how that works. Makes sense to me to have some extra capacity with such a heavy bike. The shrouds....well..after crawling around with flashlight and just laying there looking...looks like the bike was down on left side at some point. Found the left lower attachment point for the shroud is a chrome bar welded to the chromed bottom crash bar. Seems to be pushed to the left. So the left shrowd is off to the left by 2 inches. Either I find a new one or bend the bar back to right. It "should" bend easily if I can figure out how to get the leverage. Leveling links....I was reading about them. Slight change in geometry seems to make everyone happy. Looks simple enough. I ordered some stuff from member vendors yesterday....when they come in, I'll get to work on bike. Need the lift adapter first so I can get her up and level and start working. Thanks for thoughts! david
4. No..I put in a bid near the end but then got caught up cleaning up the cassette deck of my RSV. Missed the end! The only issue I have with aftermarket...if it's Chinese, the chrome is probably crap and the unit would may rust around the welds. I'm real hesitant to do that. Going to keep eyes open for another one... david
5. Got her home, printed out a temp registration so I could get some gas and go for first ride. Thoughts: Totally different beastie from 1st Gen!! 1: Steering feels weird. Going into a turn..the opposite bar wants to pull on me...ie...it feels like if I let go in a turn, the handle bars would snap into the turn hard leaving me flying through the air. Slight exaggeration...but you get the idea. Both directions. Not neutral steering at all. Slow speed handling not as bad as I had heard once I put 42 pounds in rear and 36 pounds in front. Pirrelli's...relatively new. Front shocks at 0 lbs air and rear at 20 pounds. 2: Brakes are far better than 1st gen! 3: Not as much carrying capacity. No pouches, wasted space above feet on both sides where HD has cubbies. 4: I need to find one of these dampers: There are two...prices are totally different. I have one, the other is lost in neverland.

[h=1]4XY-2317J-00-00 DAMPER 2. (under steering) Why different pricing? Look the same to me![/h] 5: The bottom of my two front cowls do not come together...looks like they should simply overlap then get pinned together. ??? 6: Need to find a tool kit for it or build my own.... Overall...an interesting ride for sure. Not as sure footed (yet) as my 1st gen....but much easier for me to deal with being so much lower despite additional weight. and yea, the gearing is a poor choice. MamaYamaha made a mistake there. They should have left the 1st gen's gears in. The RSV cruises nicely at 80mph....but does feel like it needs me to pay attention to the shift points at anything under 50mph. Gotta keep the revs up or she doesn't haul out like the 1st Gen does. Ownership: one day. Things will improve, I'm sure! david

6. One to many scoots....I now have a stable full!
7. Well...ready for the road....to pick up scoot. Measured the inside of the UHaul 5X9 utility trailer with ramp. I got 108 inches. So..in theory, I have 3 inches to spare. BUT, since the trailer has that "indentation" they call a chock...that's another 3 inches. I should be OK with a 2nd Gen going straight in. But I'm prepared if not! Guess I now need to start thinking of selling one or both of my other bikes. Rats... David
8. I'm watching it now. Hope I remember about it when I come back from road trip! Thanks!
9. Oh for clutch info...try here.... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?101137-quick-question-about-Skydoc-s-clutch-upgrade&highlight=clutch+replace%3F and here... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?99519-Clutch-Upgrade-using-Skydoc_17-Kit david
10. Sure sounds like an air leak somewhere....I like the exhaust idea as well.... YICS?
11. Hi Bert, Albuquerque to Green Valley...so a shorter run than you had. Bike does look to be a few inches longer than my 89 1st gen. Yep...may have to go in at an angle.... I plan on two straps on front guards, two straps on rear guards. Those will keep bike from going anywhere. Then two higher up on either frame or triple tree area to keep straight up. All based on my previous experiences with bikes. Your comments and help are great since the 2005 2nd Gen is totally new to me. Now I have a good idea on where to go with the straps. I have a Harbor Freight chock but two problems I for see...1: tire might be to big and 2: Using the chock pushes the bike back almost a foot from the front of the trailer. The trailer I chose has an indentation in the front they call a chock. Deep enough to maybe allow the bike to sit straight and still close the ramp. We shall see Friday night! Thanks again everyone. Love this site! david
12. Jay, that works for me. I have 6 rachet straps ready to go.... Thanks for the pictures! I may take the seat off...we shall see. Thanks for the help! david
13. Well..I did it. Going to pick up a 2005 2nd gen and bringing her home this Saturday. I'm renting a 5x9 utility trailer with ramp from uhaul. It even has a chock built in! I prefer to use 6 tie down straps...4 down low (front and rear) and two up top (on either side). So where do you'all recommend I strap down on the scoot? TIA, david
14. I'm running Shinko 230's on my 1st Gen.....did some mountain twisties this past weekend. Leaned way over, scrapping the highway pads, on a hard left turn with 3rd gear throttle on. Kind of a pucker factor for me...but the scoot tracked perfectly! Whew! Video coming of part of the trip to Payson soon. david
15. Oh...I ride with a Scorpion modular...wifemate has a Bilt full face.
16. I have never felt any appreciable breeze coming from the vents near the windshield on my 1st gen. Do feel a teeny bit coming from the steering head area...but not enough to cool me. If I keep the 1st gen, I will get a shorter/wider/vented with recurve Clearview for her. I need the air flow here in the desert.
17. Are you happy with it? YES Does it have the recurve edge at the top? YES Do you have the vent in it and is it worth the extra expense? ABSOLUTELY Is there anything you don't like about it? NOPE If you could change would you and if so what would you switch too? N/A Where is the best place to buy it from? I BOUGHT FROM CLEARVIEW I had one on my VStar 650 Classic...liked it so much I put one on my VStar 950 Tourer. I'm saving pennies to put one on "HiHo Silver"....2nd gen.
18. Very pretty ride. Like the color a lot.
19. Do a search...I put a picture up showing the difference between my two pipes and some aluminum foil. Never mind...found it...
20. I don't like the color reproduction. I think the color palette sucks. I prefer the JVC. It has a nice little screen and much better exposure control too!
21. I would purchase a second battery that matches the first. This will give you the best of both worlds, I would think. No mismatch in charging, usage, etc..
22. You should drop in to Engleheart on your Valk beastie. hehe...
23. 1: Did....silver color 2005 2: Good to know. Is it as wide as the Yamaha truck rack? 3: Thanks!
24. Excellent advice, gentlemen! Thanks!! Guess I'll be biting the bullet and paying dealer type price. But that's OK...cause I agree...I prefer OEM accessories and have always felt they are way better made. david
