  1. I agree, Dion, can't be good. I had the outer fairing apart a few weeks ago in prep to lowering the front end, but my buddy couldn't make it down to help so I put her back together. As far as I know, everything is kosher inside regarding the mounting of the fairing. I think maybe tomorrow I'll take her apart again and loosen up the inner fairing...see if there is a way to snug her up and get more room. Thanks...
  2. I do like that idea! Clock and temp! What brand did you get, if you don't mind me asking? I like the night color and size!
  3. Agreed, Mike. I like the whitewalls...
  4. Thanks for the pic, Mike. Looks like you have more room than I do??!! I just measured. I have a tad more than a 1/2 inch between the bars and the inner fairing.... Hmm...I haven't done anything to inner fairing so guess this must be from previous owners as well.... Interesting. Anyone else have Baron riser's and have the dampers installed like Mike does?
  5. The rubber cushion will never fit in there without putting a lot of stress on the inner fairing. And no they aren't there anymore. When PO put the risers on, the rubber pieces were loose and one fell. I only have one left. The inexpensive one! But can't use it anyway. I was thinking of cutting it down and trying to slip it in between the bars and the inner fairing with some double sided tape to hold it. But that would be a huge cut. Looking for another alternative if anyone has ideas....I seem to be fresh out of creativity! Thanks, Dion....I wasn't aware someone else had made a gadget to help solve this...
  6. Seems that way:stirthepot:...but I did hear him...and agreed. I also like the looks of the fairing without the plastic there... david
  7. Don't know since the reason my eyebrows came off was to get the fairing re-painted right after I bought the scoot. But if yes, you could cover with a pin stripe tape. david
  8. Found it....for a custom backrest you can buy. But I like the way they did the install...Hope this gives you some ideas... http://www.utpr.com/ventureinstallation.html david
  9. True. But I did see a post somewhere that showed how to cut into the 1st Gen's seat...and mount a backrest on the underside of the seat...with the backrest bar coming up out of seat. It was nicely done. Can't find it now... Looked like a simple slit in seat from top to underneath...then rim the slit on top with leather/vinyl. If I can find it, I'll forward it to you.
  10. Ever since I realized I had Baron's riser extensions on my handlebars, I've been trying to come up with a way to replace the dampers that normally rest between the bars and the fairing. Very little room in there now. I don't feel or hear the bars striking the fairing but that doesn't mean it isn't. Suggestions as to what I could use for material? Thanks! david
  11. Don, try taking off the "eyebrows", the chrome strips on the front fairing. Mine are off and what little rain I've been in, runs up and off to the sides of my Clearview. david
  12. Yep. Put highway pads up front on my 89 for same reason...nice to lay back and cruise. Got to strengthen 2nd gen crash bars then add pegs to that bike as well. Do need the stretch! Wife finds the 1st gen more comfortable than 2nd gen. She loves the adjustable backrest. She says it is like a snug cocoon back there. She has fallen asleep on the last two long outings we've taken! With backrest on either bike, I now get on from high side...just lift "old fart left leg" up and over then slide onto seat. Even without passenger, I can't swing leg high enough to clear backrests. I'm 5'10 and shrinking! GW, you will like the comfort level a backrest provides, even for short day trips... david
  13. Safe travels, have fun and enjoy all the life that you, Tip and Tweeks find on your journey! Waiting for pics and stories! david
  14. Good to hear she wanted to ride! Seriously, Jeff. I simply can't see how a little smile on your face would be detrimental to your health! I'm glad the scoot took off and glad you hung in there! I'm at the story! david
  15. Oh my! Well..hopefully that means "Lots O Bux" in your pocket...since you won't have much to spend it on while there...maybe! Grins! I enjoyed going overseas....but then, I was single and stupid! Wishing you a safe trip and an enjoyable tour! david
  16. Nice ride this morning. Crystal clear after all the rain yesterday. 75 degrees. Whoo Hoo! Picture: There are times when I still feel a little bit like an outlaw....what rules?
  17. Looking at the parts guide found in the reference section...it looks like the TCI is located under the battery near the 2 rear coils above the front of the rear fender. Somewhere tucked in there. May be able to see it from left side taking off the plastic panel there...
  18. Mine is Xtra large, wider with vent. I like it. That makes three Clearviews I've owned.
  19. 1: Looks like tropical mold. Cheapest and safest chemical to kill mold is hydrogen peroxide. Bleach works well too, but is a bit caustic when spraying/applying on the sides. Let the chemical sit for a while then use a power washer, avoiding heavy spraying near windows and seams until you are sure they don't leak. Don't want to get the insulation inside the walls wet in Florida...they will never dry! 2: After power washing, any stains left over can be dealt with any scrubbing cleanser and elbow grease. The tarp bothers me too, but since most RV/Toyhauler roofs are leak prone anyway...that could have been a simple precaution by the owner. I do that too with my boat even though it doesn't leak. Why temp fate? Tarps are cheap. Regardless, plan on new rubberized roof sealing. Do it now then you don't have to worry about rain ruining your new flooring. The carpet and tile needing replacement is great, in my opinion. You can rip out old stuff, check and seal floor, maybe spray a closed foam barrier http://www.sprayfoamkit.com/ , throw a good pad down and decent carpet and have a new toy home! Same with linoleum...throw it out...get new tiles and change the look of interior completely! Looks like a good deal if everything else checks out....good luck!
  20. I have the Star accessory backrest borrowed from KIC on my 1st Gen and a Grasshopper on my 2nd Gen. Agree with Pam's assessment. Helps a lot keeping your back straighter...eliminates most of the shoulder issues and gives you a place to rest, so to speak. The Grasshopper is the least expensive and easiest to install on most bikes. The metal mount on top does bend which gives me some "room" to push on. I consider that a plus as I can easily customize the bend for my back. I highly recommend backrests. You will like it...(as long as you can deal with the look of the bike after install).
  21. Regardless...understand your frustration. However, now is the time to be very methodical with your troubleshooting. Follow Condor's advice and get yourself a simple meter and read the voltages. Present the info here and you will get help. You don't need to be an electrical engineer to troubleshoot a motorcycle....just a few tools and some help. We'll provide the help... See ya after work tomorrow.... david
  22. 10% off if you mention this Forum... This was the deal they had going a few months ago when I bought mine.
  23. Funny! Do like those whitewalls. Wish I had seen a picture of them on the 2nd gen before I bought new tires. And no. I'm not going to paint my tires! Thanks for the update, Larry...looking forward to more pics and news! david
