I had one as well...Classic. Put Vance and Hines mufflers to blow the neighbors away and impress my Harley friends. Loved it. Sold it for more than I paid for it two years later. A little buzzy on feet and hands at 75mph, but she would do it all day. Treat her like a Venture...lube the shaft drive splines and enjoy! No problems with mine at all. Suggest a Mustang seat or let Mr. Butler take a whack at the original. Stock seat isn't that good. David

Reflective lens on trunk
videoarizona replied to MrOflam's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You may be right about the glue stuff. Mine was double sided tape. Pain in butt. LED's sound good. I think you will be happy with them. My PO put in tiny light bulbs and didn't use wiring connectors. So one of these days, off comes the lenses and I'll change over to LED's and put in some connectors to make install/changes easier. Take some pics when done...be good to see... Thanks for update. -
Thank you for your service. Be safe! See you on the flip side...

Full Throllte Saloon Burns down to the ground - Breaking news
videoarizona replied to Eck's topic in Watering Hole
Yikes! Thanks for letting us know, Eck! -
What a timely post. The lady mentioned yesterday..."Have you thought of getting a motorhome and then either towing the bikes or the sailboat?" Uh...yes I have.... Get a toyhauler, put bike(s) inside and tow the boat. Uh oh....

2nd gear 70mph, 5th gear 75mph?
videoarizona replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I scare myself when I go over 90 in 3rd. She is pulling so strong, I don't want to shift! Great motor! -
Reflective lens on trunk

((here was some kind of black goop mystery adhesive in the crevices on the backside. Did not look like RTV either, as it was not rubbery.)) Hmm...sounds like the PO had the thing apart. But that's OK...cause it came right off! Yay! -
Carb sync confirmation

Interesting thought, Kelly. The sad thing about owning both 1st and 2nd gens...is I inadvertently compare the two. They really are night and day. The 05 will never have the acceleration the 89 does. At least mine doesn't....not even close. I may have to take a trip to @V7Goose's and have him show me what's right and wrong! -

I believe the reason for turning the fuel off when not using an RSV is because the tank is higher than the carbs. If one of the floats sticks open, the fuel will drain down into the motor. Could cause some serious grief.

Baking Clutch Fluid - Exhaust Heat Shield
videoarizona replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Interesting conversation. I had my clutch fluid replaced at beginning of summer. Not that many miles since then but been riding in hot weather...this is Arizona! My fluid is darker than the front brake fluid changed at same time. So either I have a leaky gasket or the heat is getting to the slave cylinder. Shifting seems fine though....but going to keep an eye on things. -
Since my Yukon XL has over 150K miles on iridiums, I put same in the RSV. Be curious to see what they look like after a few thousand miles. I'm going to keep them in until they show wear or breakdown for some reason. Will check them though once in a while. But I don't have a factory warrantee to worry about either...

Fuel Tank Arithmetic (I HATE math with a passion!)
videoarizona replied to Semi-retired's topic in Watering Hole
186 miles this past weekend when it started sputtering and I switched on reserve. Had 2 bars left on gauge. No light yet. Took 4.4 gallons, and I didn't top off. Stop filling when it gurgles near filler neck top. No vent holes...stock setup. 42mpg. That's 2 up, mostly 4th gear 55 to 65 mph in slight hills. Fun 2 lane ride. Previously, I get around 36mpg solo. So me thinks my wrist is being bad when I'm alone. -
Carb sync confirmation
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I went to HF today...didn't have that particular 24" screwdriver in stock. I did find a slightly shorter one...thin....it should reach all the way. We shall see. I've had to delay working on beastie cause I needed to buy some restrictors for the vacuum gauges, vacuum port caps and a longer screwdriver. BTW, someone here mentioned they had purchased JIS screwdrivers from HF. The manager of the Tucson store said he has never heard of them and carries all the stock. The vacuum caps are because I don't have the original set up. The PO took all the stuff off and tied the two vacuum ports on each side together. Maybe tomorrow I'll check the carbs. Although, today finally went to gas station. 186 miles this past weekend with daughter on back. Mostly 2 lanes and 4th gear hills and stuff. 4.4 gallons. 42mpg. Past two tanks by myself were 36 mpg! Guess my right wrist is being bad when I'm alone.....cause the 05 surely can get decent mileage when the kidlet is on the back! Starts better and seems to run nicely. Guess I got the carbs right... -
Metzler ME880s. Mine were cupped like mad at rear when I got bike. Found out I needed to run max cold air pressure in them..ie..whatever it says on the sidewalls. It was to late for me as right after the cupping started, I developed a crack then a chunk came out of rear. The previous owner obviously ran Yamaha recommended pressures...hence the problems I had. I liked the handling on the 880's. Don't know about Michelin other than Dunlop and Michelin both seem to be highly rated among riders here. I'm now running my 89 (Shinko) and 05(Pirelli) bikes's tires at 2lbs below max..riding solo. I take them to max when 2 up or lots of long, high speed runs. The Shinkos stick like glue but will wear faster being a softer tire. That's good for the 89 as I do enjoy the twisties on that scoot! The Pirelli's on the 05 seem to ride nice...but not many miles yet. I would say you can't go wrong with either brand.

Out of curiousity...why are you changing the plugs on a 2012? Are they burnt, broken, gas mileage down the tubes?
-
Tom, there are two threads going on with same question....see the 2nd gen tech area... I answered your question there... david

Carb sync confirmation
videoarizona replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thank you Sir, for the confirmation. That's the article that first explained the manual error. Okie dokie...now to find those screws and do some work! david -
Confirming the repair manual's notes for syncing the carbs is backwards? instead of screws #1,#2,#3...it's #3, then #2 then #1? This should sync carbs 1&2, 3&4, then right side to left side.. Thx david
