  1. Scott and Steve... Arizona does have some really nice 2 lane rides. 260 is one of them. But being Arizona, most of the rides need to be done in the Spring or Fall as the summer heat is a bit much for "most people" (Puc....sigh, what can I say. You do like heat)...even up north. March/April...October/November are prime riding months....although I did ride my little 250 DS6C around the northern part of AZ in the summer of 1970...summer of 100 days over 100 degrees in Phoenix! I got out of town a lot! Bill, Don't know if I can make the Saturday ride...but maybe Sunday at the church. But lets talk if you have time when you get settled... david
  2. (I host a root beer run there every year on the last Saturday in June.) Illinois. Sigh. Why cant all the good things be located closer to me! If I rode up to your part of town, I could visit Venture riders for 2 months and stay within 500 miles of you all. Guess I should start thinking of a road trip back East!
  3. That's going to be hard, Mike. The last soda fountain in Phoenix no longer serves the old style root bear and I haven't seen an A&W stand in a while. Dad's isn't on to many shelves either. There was a old time name that sold the best root beer in bottles, haven't seen that in so long I no longer remember the name. Maybe it's still back East... I love good old fashioned root beer!
  4. Me to.....wanted to try F4's since I'm a fan of the large, vented shields from Clearview. But October is a bad month for me with property taxes, vehicle registrations, etc., all due in one month. I hope Don does this again next Spring....(hint!) Thanks, Don for offering this sale to our members! david
  5. Browsing youtube today...saw this film. Cool ride. From NYC to San Francisco....the old Lincoln Highway still exists in most parts of the country. Basically, it was a marketing dream of a couple of guys to produce a series of roads into a legend making route across the country. Lots of cool places to visit, stay and eat. I need to look up the routes now available and see what it would take to do the trip. Like to do that ride some day.... If you get a chance...look it up on youtube and watch. 56 minutes or so... 6. UPDATE: Took off the 2 vacuum hoses and capped all 4 vacuum outlets on carbs. Went for a scoot test run. (that's how I justified it anyway). Ran so much better. Seriously. I remember I posted somewhere a while back that I was mystified as to why the 1st gen motor ran so smoothly up to rpm's and the 2nd gen (mine) didn't. Well...the Jason mod was the issue. Now it climbs rpm's nicely, quickly and smoothly. Now it does feel like the same engine as what's in my 1st gen! Done with that, thanks!
  7. Thanks, Robert....think I'll go pull the mod off my scoot as well. Never could get a definitive answer about splitting the vacuum that satisfied me...
  8. Yep. My rear chunked but front was great. Got rid of both though....no trust left. I think you are good to go with ME on front...
  9. ((I don't like that walking thing either. Pushing is a distinct fear.)) Yep!
  10. You guys are nuts! I try and gas up around 120-150 miles and don't like to ride over 75mph indicated. Usually lots of gas left. Fuel level drops rapidly on either scoot over 80 indicated! I let others pass me...I'm good with that. Guess I don't like to walk....
  11. It doesn't take much to add a little bit of buzz. Mine was running and starting good before and after...but do have less buzz on tank. Guess I must be close on the carbs!
  12. A buddy on his HD Ultra and I took off last week to spend a few days in Payson, AZ. Did some much needed work on the deck. Saturday we took off for a ride up on the Mogollon Rim. Pronounced "Mug-ee-own". It's a mile high escarpment that cuts across above Payson. When I first came to AZ in 1969, we used to camp all over the place up there to beat the heat in Phoenix. I brought up my VStar 950 Tourer on the trailer as I needed to use the truck to carry wood and tools for the work we needed to do to "pay the rent" so to speak. The two scoots on the rim road to Woods Canyon Lake. Didn't realize how long the 950T was. Me and my little scoot....Think I'll go back up in 2 weeks with a Venture. I left the tools up there so I could ride up the back way from Tucson. Hiway 260...looking west back toward Payson. Nice ride.
  13. Put your thumbnail on the tank at speed. If the tank is really "buzzing", your carbs are out of sync. If it's not objectionable then they are good. That's what I remember from a post.... david
  14. RainX now has a plastic version of their famous product. I'm going to try some as soon as I can find it in the store.. Used the glass version on my Slipstreamer and no issues. Love the way the rain just beads up and moves off....
  15. If memory serves, the Chrysler 200 is really an Italian product. A little Maserati or something like that. One of those brands owned by Fiat. Supposed to be a good car...but the little engine is buzzy...the bigger motor is better. And yes, I've heard they do have some problems...
  16. One of these days...I'll find a way to get back East...
  17. If you don't have a probe in the top of the battery, then the light will stay on until you do a mod to the circuit. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?489-Battery-Warning-Bypass david
  18. My el cheapo Harbor Freight has lasted 3 years, so far. (knock on wood)... Took it with me to New Hampshire...where it spent most of 8 months in a storage place sitting vertically against the wall. Still works just fine and lifts my scoots without issue. Only problem I had was getting used to how to lower. It seems if you press gently on pedal, it drops like a stone. If you smash the pedal down...it lowers with more control. I've heard the speed of lowering can be adjusted, but haven't got that far. I raise and lower by myself now.
  19. So went for a ride this morning to see if my right wrist was controllable. Answer: Yes. 41.4 mpg...mixture of 80mph in 5th gear and 55-65mph in 4th gear. Went to see Colossal cave near Tucson...breakfast at Vail Steakhouse. Bad picture...lens must have been crudded up!
  20. Yep. I laid my scoot down walking it backwards into a driveway...left side. When I first got it. Dirt road. Big dip and no place to put left foot....went over to far for me to hold. Scratched that very area of the plastic. Some chrome there would be nice to cover that up!!
  21. I was thinking of running them all the time as well....with maybe an optional switch to turn them off if I ever have a charging issue. Well.... thanks.
  22. ((I have read you can possibly hook the two vacuum ports together on each side of the bike to get better low end performance. Has anyone done this? If so what were the results?)) The Previous Owner did that on my 2005. I've seen no problems with that. Just one tube between the two on each side. No performance issues, idle issue or mpg issues. Seems to be fine so I'm leaving it. Supposedly, it was done by him to reduce backfiring on decel. Not sure that helped as I still have some...but with HD mufflers on, I kind of like the rumble and noise!
