((I'll be pulling that shortly to see if it looks like a rebuild kit will do the job.)) Luke, check the older posts on the master cylinder as well. It could be something simple. Seriously. Lots of things can be fixed on these scoots with elbow grease and a cleaning. Once cleaned, you may find an "O" ring needs replacing and leak fixed, or the cleaning found something else. Always check the archives....sometimes you have to be creative in choosing the right search words to find what you are looking for. Once in the general area, on the bottom of the posts you will find more related posts to follow. Tons of info here... Then, after you have exhausted the old posts and asked the questions... you can spend bux on new parts or rebuild kits. Unless it's easier for you to replace with new. There is something to be said for that as well. Not trying to change your way of doing things, just offering suggestions. david PS Is the reservoir for the rear master cylinder above the MC on an 83? If so, Maybe the leak is there? BTW, do not overfill the rear master....when the fluid gets hot, the brakes will expand and you will find yourself slowly coming to a stop. Bleed the rear brake and you'll be good to go. But on my 89, there isn't any way to tell if you overfill...so I only fill up to just below the filler neck on the reservoir. If anything, I'm shy below the neck opening. -
Great find! Dion, Did you sell the wired coms?

Hmmm...search for that one. Maybe the solenoid is repairable or cleanable. Don't know. But I did find the info on soldering the computer... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?493-CLASS-E4-Error-Repair From Prairiehammer: Before you disassemble the solenoid valves, check the reed valve at the inlet to the valve body. The reed valve acts as a check valve, air travels only in one direction through it. If debris is caught in the reed valve, it will not perform as a check valve. Most common cause of reed valve failure is a particle of desiccant caught in it. Insure that the solenoid valves are actually opening and closing fully. Make sure the intake (suction) air filter is clean and free flowing. Finally, the Teflon piston ring may be worn out. The compressor will seem to function when freely running, but the back pressure when installed in the bike causes blowby past the piston. Last edited by Prairiehammer; 08-10-2015 at 06:25 AM. -

Luke, Do a Search of our older posts in this forum. There should be a ton of posts regarding the error codes and how to repair. many were simple and easy. Lots of pics and info. Both E1 and E4 are error codes that are normally fixed with re-soldering the terminal solder points. They crack and make intermittent connection. Simply old age. I repaired mine in less than 30 minutes...and that included the time it took to take the computer out of the right side of the dash, take it apart, and solder the connections where the connector mates to the circuit board. I put it back together and no problems since. This was the first repair I did on my 89. Easy! -

@Prairiehammer, does that VIN help in determining year and model Venture? VIN# is posted under second picture. Question is about cruise control... Was it standard or an option on a VR? -
Never even thought to clean my covers.....

To help us identify bike: Take some pictures. Supply your VIN. There are guru's here that will tell you a lot by both above. Cruise controls should be on right handlebar...if equipped. Join the club....best $12 you will ever spend! -

Interesting. Since getting the Ventures, I now get on/off from right side. Find it easier to mount from the high side. I've shrunk to 5'10" and 30 inch inseam....so not tall. Can't seem to get leg over from left anymore.. -
I like the Scorpions... Except my forehead hurts from the seam inside. Leaves a nice horizontal line on my head as well. Got to cut that part out!

middle gear issues
videoarizona replied to meach's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Meach, There are a couple of areas that showed occasional problems with the 1st gens. I'll mention them anyway even though I haven't seen much info on 2nd gens having the problem. Probably not your problem, but while you are in there, might be good idea to look. Oh and grease the driveshaft forward splines. #1: is the middle gear shaft that transfers power from the engine through the ujoint. It tends to break at the end...where the nut is. The broken piece just sits inside the ujoint and the bike runs normally, except for additional whining noise during decel. #2: The rear end of the drive shaft where it goes into the rear end. That is where mine broke. Bike still ran fine just more noise. There are shims on the pinion gear that drives the middle gear...maybe something there let go or way to much play. Anyway, if you don't have them, download the Shop manual and the parts manual pdf's from this site. The parts manual is good for looking at exploded diagrams showing what parts are where and with part numbers too. Good luck...keep us posted what you find. These darn scoots are so reliable, when something happens, we all want to know about it! -
tires - what to get
videoarizona replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have Shinko 230's on my 89. I'm impressed. They ride very well. Grip like glue. Don't crab all over the place on ridges and ruts. Were not expensive. I really don't care if they don't last 10K miles. When the rear tire wears out, then it must be the time to clean and lube the rear end! That's my way of looking at it. I keep air pressure up to within a few pounds of maximum on tire sidewall. Good tires. david -
Congrats, David! Wishing you a healthy and happy retirement! Go ride!

Looks like I missed a fun ride. Thanks, KIC for the pictures too!

Better half is height challenged...advice please!

I'm with Kevin on this. My lady has been thinking about riding her own bike. So I took the VStar 950 Tourer off the market....as it would be the perfect bike for her...she's 5'4" and shrinking! You may want to approach her on that topic, Bert. See what kind of response you get. My lady is a control person anyway, so having her own scoot makes sense on multiple levels.. Course, I would end up doing maintenance to it anyway!! david -
Thought I'd throw this out there. (Medical stuff)

I'm with Yammer on this. Thankfully, techniques have improved tremendously in the years we've been around. Tricia, the most important information I've read so far this past year is for you to ask lots and lots of questions. Advocate for yourself! Question the doc, question the procedure, get second opinions on both the docs, the hospital and the procedure. Keep asking until you feel comfortable with the hospital, the docs and the procedure. Then and only then, make your decision whether to do it or not. Feel free to send your MRI scans to other docs around country and ask for their opinions as well. Between University teaching facilities to the Mayo type clinics there are a lot of choices. Some docs have tons of experience doing cases like yours, others not so many. That's what your questions need to weed out. Prayers for you added to my nightly list! david -

Yep...my 1960 Bugeye Sprite will attest to that... -
Man, not good to hear about this.... Been researching for over a year now. Thankfully, there are a number of options available: http://www.back.com/spine-back-surgery/back-surgery-options/decompression-pinched-nerve/ http://www.back.com/spine-back-surgery/back-surgery-options/ http://www.hsahealth.org/PublicHealth/pages/healthResources/healthwire/2002/07.html https://www.laserspineinstitute.com/back_problems/ My lady is in the same boat. After a successful jump by the three of us(05 RSV, myself and her) three weeks ago while crossing a sand filled wash...She was not able to walk a few days later. We didn't land hard, rather she tensed up and "spasmed" the muscles. No hard tissue problems beyond what she already had, rather muscle spams that kept her in bed unable to walk. ER people gave her a shot that numbed her back and butt area...reducing pain and told her to go home and not move for a while. She is getting better but still has twinges. She has issues in L4/l5 area with bulging discs...but so far no pinching of the major nerves there that send those horrific bolts of pain shooting down the leg. Suggest it's time for you to consider some alternatives. Pain therapy is a shot every two months and not a cure. But is a viable alternative. Surgery seems to be the only cure and the new minimally invasive techniques seem to make a lot more sense! Lots for you to think about, especially with a career at stake. Prayers UP! david
