Two things come to mind. 1: Check for broken wires inside the wiring loom by the clutch. IE...wiggle the wires and see if the radio plays or not. Maybe using the clutch is moving the radio wiring somewhere causing a short or a wire to be loose. 2: The clutch handle also turns off the cruise control. So there may be some circuit somewhere that interfaces with the cruise/radio power or the signal circuit between the radio and amp circuits??? They may have a common junction point in the wiring harness. Weird...right? Find that and you will find a short somewhere. Does your cruise work? Thinking out loud here...[/color]

Congrats, Bill! I'm a couple years behind you but feel the same way. Love my 89! Now all I need to find is a monkey.... Grins!

Nanci, I'm beginning to have similar issues with my thumb joint...so am following this thread with eager eyes. And like Jonas, I still haven't got around to picking my bib design...sigh!!

I was thinking that bike will be going by so fast, no one will see the three spoke wheels...! Not sure about the seating position for my bod, though.

Me too. Just re-read the reviews on the Coronado Trail (Devils Highway). Since I've now ridden it from north to south, I can say it is a challenging ride! This spring, think we have to do this again...but from south to north. Whee!

Yes.I have aYukon xl and the plate is above the bumper, with the hitch under the bumper. Wide enough angle to see everything I need to see. I simply tilted it down a touch.... Could also see the trailer wheels.... I have a six foot tongue so I have a good view of trailer at all times. Wired camera to backup lights for power. Monitor was plugged in to cig lighter... Signal was wireless. Worked good until last year. These winter in New Hampshire did it in.

People have used a type of glue... Don't remember what. Search old posts..diaphram repair....or diaphram sticking... I'm on road so my search is a pain... -
That's a good deal. I went with a waterproof camera due to sailboat launching. Lasted seven years. May get the new one from Costco ..... It mounts on license plate bracket...

Health, a nice New Year ahead and a rack for the second gen trunk.....among a very long list of other things!

Kic mentioned the PGR's will be helping this Saturday... As the semi trucks deliver wreaths to vets resting places around country. On way up to Phoenix today... passed semi loaded with wreaths. Sides were decorated with wreaths on graves. Cool. Gave driver thumbs up as I zoomed by on 2nd gen... Going to try and make it in North Phoenix this Saturday. Never knew about this... Thanks, Bill for letting me know. I don't get my email on road so it was news to me. david:usa:

Let's see: 1967.. Honda 160 twin...Going from college in Boston to New Hampshire in winter. Stopped at restaurant for coffee... My hands were frozen.. Had to slide throttle hand off of grip... Not smart in those days! 1969.. In Phoenix.. Riding the river beds on BSA 441 Victor. Jumping the little hills zipping down the riverbed when I zipped up one that has a sharp downhill on other side. Uh oh... Found out the hard way that 441's are front heavy! Obviously not much smarter. 1972 on DS6C 250 Yamaha ... Loaded for road trip across country. Trying to show off in front of sisters house... Did a nice wheelie slammed second and... Well.. Over she went on her back. Nothing hurt but pride and some bike scrapes. Obviously...still not much smarter.... And I'll stop here before I get to embarrassed!

No. Many times the bike will run fine at idle on three. Most common reasons for three are plugs and wires. On mine, I found one wire wasn't seated in coil and end was corroded. Cut off end and stuck wire in tight. Your mpgs tell me you are not missing at speed. Next time out, downshift to 4th and crank it....make sure you are turning throttle all the way!!! Bet you will be surprised at acceleration. -
I too have a good collection of music on tape. I also still have a home tape unit so i can make my own mixes. But just bought an XM receiver for the 2nd Gen....already have Xm built in to GMC, just so just need to add scoot to service. I use an mp3 player with 1st gen since I have that wired in too. But as Puc said...it's nice to listen to to road and the V4 as well!

Who really knows/understands the 1st Gen CLASS/shock system ??
videoarizona replied to KIC's topic in Watering Hole
Bill, We did have an E2 error after soldering the Class board using your 89 Class. So my first thought would be to follow the diagnostic schematic for the E2 error on your 89 Class mechanicals. Have to think the problem is somewhere in the air intake (if memory serves??) Could be the reed valve on intake. Thinking out loud here....I think we had two problems. One...the computer board wasn't working properly due to solder issues on connector. The class system wasn't pumping up properly...the numbers moved to fast...like you had a super pump on there! And the computer was telling the solenoid to dump the air when you turned the key off. The second problem is the E2 issue (which could be related to the fast pumping if the reed valve is bad). Last, we now know the 89 service manual is wrong regarding the linkages to the rear shock. That alone was "almost" worth the tear down/replace shock fun we had! Now we need to find out where to find the proper information on "how to" as well as torque values for the 89 rear shock service. As you suggested, maybe someone has a 90, 91 manual and it shows the proper rear end linkages. Anyone? Glad it's working...have a great ride on Saturday! david -

That was a fun two days, Bill. Learned a lot, digging into your bike. Let's hope we don't have to do mine for a while yet! Grins! Glad the ride went well.....!
