  1. Not in my lifetime or my children's lifetime or their children's lifetime will fossil fuels go away. They can't. The current infrastructure is not designed for anything else. To eliminate fossil fuels, you must first have an infrastructure in place for whatever will be the replacement. To do that, you must commit billions of dollars in research and design. Generation/Refinement/Transportation/Distribution/Marketing/Sales/Repair/ and the list goes on...all must be developed for THE fossil fuel replacement. Only one small problem: No one can agree on what that replacement will be?? Did I mention "Not in my lifetime"? (now where's that darn coffee cup...)
  2. (The plug wires on a 2nd gen are permanently attached to the coils.) Oh...didn't know that. Thanks for correction!! I was using the first gen as my example of issues. My bad...
  3. 1: I would look a the ends of the plug wires where they come out of the coils. Mine were corroded. I cut off about 1/2 inch of the wire and stuck it back in. Worked for me...I put dialetric grease on the outside of the wire where it went into coil to keep moisture out. 2: Then look at the wires going to each coil and make sure they are still connected! 3: Pull plugs, clean and gap...or put in 4 new plugs. Fronts are fun to get to...but I was successful by taking off the braces on both sides then using the tool kit spark plug tool to remove. If all this doesn't help...I'd start looking at the fuel lines/rails feeding the back carbs or the carbs themselves. But easy stuff first.,.. Keep us posted... david
  4. (Flip throttle she spits and sputters. Ease into it, seems to run fine as you up the RPMs.) That almost sounds like the carb diaphrams are not responding fast enough for throttle blips....stumbling on quick acceleration. That could be vacuum leak or small holes in diaphrams among other things....
  5. Well...almost. The tank decal was not on bike when I bought and the fairing needed some touch up. So I had a local custom paint shop here match the factory paint on the tank for the fairing. I took off the silver plastic little dodads on the fairing thinking they may be interfering with the rain and didn't like the looks anyway. So far, the rain does a good job staying away from me so I think those little chrome strips do more harm then good when it comes to wind flow. So yes...as far as I know the tank and other pieces are factory but the fairing I re-painted. They did a great job matching paint. I do have to take better pics...the above are from my phone before I replaced the plastic cover over the camera lens. Pics are better now...but I do have some pro photog gear from old work days I should use to get some good shots. Thanks for the kind words!
  6. Well CJ..I looked and couldn't find the post either. So here are some pics I've taken since...
  7. That's cool. I bought this teeny little guy 6 months ago. It sits on the cassette shelf of the 2nd gen and plugs into the aux port. I can use any Bluetooth enabled phone or mp3 player to listen to tunes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0059M4G9K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 Wish I was younger cause I thing technology will pass me by at some point and there is some really cool stuff coming down the pike. david
  8. Spring 2015. Wanted one of each to enjoy and try out. Both are nice scoots!!
  9. Well James...did try your suggestions: No dice. My Scorpion won't fit in any direction in the trunk. Not even close. Guess my head is to big, sigh! XL size. Thanks for the suggestions. Thankfully, Yamaha put those little helmet holders under the trunk.
  10. My daughter's 03 Taurus has been a pain in butt for past five years. Less than 65,000 miles and lots has gone wrong. Latest, fuel pump in tank... Top cracks and fuel vapors escape stinking up car. Makes one think the thing is going to blow up. Took it to two different dealers and they couldn't find anything wrong. Finally took it back to original dealer and told service manager if car blows up and kills my kid... I was going to own them. They found the top plastic cap of fuel pump that sits in gas tank was cracked. Replaced pump assembly for $900 bux. Two weeks later... Car died. Dealer picked up car with tow truck and took daughter to work. Pump had died... The new one. Three other issues.. Each costing just under a grand to repair before that. Now... One valve cover leaks oil... Going to cost almost another grand as so much stuff has to come off to get to gasket. I'm not too keen on that car... Needless to say. Glad to hear others don't have issues....
  11. ((but I've been thinking there must be a better design for the crash bar that will provide enough clearance to also protect the upper corner of the fairing that always gets damaged in a tip over. The part of the guard that was scraped flat would not be necessary, just the part that bolts to the frame and supports the chin fairing mounts.)) Clive...I'm with you on this. Would like a better crash bar design as well.... david
  12. To refresh memories: I had very little space between the fairing and the handlebars compared to others who had same handlebar setup with Baron's extensions. So I decided to do something about that. Tried putting spacers of various sorts between bars and fairing and that didn't work as they would disappear on rough roads. So took fairing apart again this morning....and put a lock washer and spacer on the two frame bolts that the inner fairing goes over...giving me about a 1/4 inch spacing off the frame at the bolt. Put everything back together and now have this... Nice improvement and solid. Gained more space than I expected and no issues putting everything back together. Then decided to install my Christmas present to myself. They are small for the price paid. But if they work as advertised, My legs will be happy next summer in the desert heat! Now I need to figure out why I can't get a Scorpion helmet in my travel trunk while others can...same year bike and helmet. Weird. But this is what makes riding and owning a scoot fun....figuring out the why's and whynots... Happy New Year to all and please.....BE SAFE!!! david
  13. Lots of good memories, there!!! Thanks...
  14. Thank you, Larry, for your words and thoughts. We do tend to get carried away in life and forget the most important things!! Wishing you a healthy and safe New Year!!
  15. Thanks for the great write up! I have two cams...GoPro and JVC. Mounting issues with both. Agreed... The Ram mounts are good but vibration isn't. Thanks for info on windshield vibration... That was going to be next for me. Helmet mounting is next.... Don't like GoPro look on head either.... But want mic input as well. Waiting to hear/see your results! Oh.....B&H is a good group of people. Bought most of my broadcast video stuff from them over past twenty years... Never a complaint.
  16. Just found this thread! A little slow down here in the desert... Well done... Enjoyed the pics!
  17. James, Great find! We have to ride when I'm up in Phoenix! David

  22. I have same bulb... No issues so far
  23. I don't know how the reflector is mounted but I would think if something is broken, a dab of epoxy should fix it. The connector worries me......why did it melt??? david
