Scenerio: Took off the vent hose from tank wanting to check to see if it was blocked. I seem to now have a fuel starvation issue at high rpms full throttle. Could be spark related but new plugs and timing and advance are not adjustable. Question: I tried to blow into the vent hose but felt a lot of back pressure...like it was blocked. Is this the result of the roll over valve in the vent line? Should I have sucked instead of blown to check if valve was plugged? (down guys!!) TIA, david

please compare RSV to 2013 Road Glide Ultra
videoarizona replied to friesman's topic in Watering Hole
A friend of mine owns a 2012 Ultra Classicand we ride together as much as we can around Arizona. He's had two issues since he bought the scoot: 1. An occasional oil leak we haven't been able to find source...from around the oil filter. Intermittent. 2: His shift shaft broke inside the motor somewhere resulting in a partial teardown to repair. Something about dissimilar metals??? Any of these ring a bell? (sorry for hijacking post but help appreciated) david -
Colorado trip sightseeing and riding suggestions
videoarizona replied to Mover's topic in Watering Hole
Yep! Spent 6 years in Colorado. Saw almost every 2 lane they had in my Austin Healey. Gunnison and the entire middle of the state is stunning. david:biker: -
Larry, so far I've haven't found a mounting position I really like on my 89 VR or my 05 RSV. It's either to high and vibrates like mad or to low and makes me sick to watch the road going by at what looks like a gazillion miles an hour. Not a good visualization of what I see. I ruled out the windshield based on other comments but am hesitating on the helmet as well. Don't want the aerodynamic drag, additional noise of wind flow and prefer a more stable environment as I'm always looking around. Chest mount is a possibility but not sure I would care to keep putting the harness on/off, on/off. Sigh...

(And I thought I remember someone insisting that they were immune to my toys.......................) Silly me...

Art, I would stick to 720P resolution. It is Real HD, even though many marketing people don't agree. They think 1080 is the only Real HD. Sorry to disappoint them but real hd specs are both. Besides, 720P is far better for moving video and much smaller file sizes as well. Easier to edit, transfer and upload as well. As far as the camera mount. Looks like a good solution for ya. I'm still not sure that's what I want to do...but do appreciate your pictures and explanations! Vimeo is excellent, but not needed unless you really want to preserve high end video quality. I used to use Vimeo for my film and video business (important to show clients great stuff), but have since taken most of my pro stuff off the account and only have a few things left there...don't know why I'm even saving them. Hmmm....I think after seeing your video, I think I'll take one of the curved sticky mounts for the GoPro and just put that camera on the helmet and walk away. Better than trying to fudge a mount for the scoots and I'm coming up on prime riding season down here. I prefer the JVC but maybe I can figure out a good place for it on one of the scoots. Thanks, Art. Stay safe and enjoy the camera. Oh, for inexpensive editing software that is truly fully functional...try Sony. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudio I have the Pro version and have been able to send edited projects to theaters, broadcast, extremely large screen presentations, the web and everywhere in between. It simply works. Unless you on a MAC. david

Got the word last night that wifemate wants to try MC camping as well....so... This is about the least expensive MC camper....about $3K plus a hitch and wiring for bike. There are bigger and heavier ones but the price goes up considerably. I like this one better...it's bigger but more $$. http://www.openroadoutfitters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=91_122&products_id=191 And another: http://www.trailmasterinc.com/sentry/sentryindex.html Don't think she would go @KIC's route...we already "camp out" in a 23 foot sailboat...so she knows that and is good with it. So...guess I need to start watching Craig's List and start studying about pulling 300 pounds behind the scoot! Sigh...

Opinions on the future of the Internal Conbustion Engine
videoarizona replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
Not in my lifetime or my children's lifetime or their children's lifetime will fossil fuels go away. They can't. The current infrastructure is not designed for anything else. To eliminate fossil fuels, you must first have an infrastructure in place for whatever will be the replacement. To do that, you must commit billions of dollars in research and design. Generation/Refinement/Transportation/Distribution/Marketing/Sales/Repair/ and the list goes on...all must be developed for THE fossil fuel replacement. Only one small problem: No one can agree on what that replacement will be?? Did I mention "Not in my lifetime"? (now where's that darn coffee cup...) -
bike is realy sluggish and low tickover

(The plug wires on a 2nd gen are permanently attached to the coils.) Oh...didn't know that. Thanks for correction!! I was using the first gen as my example of issues. My bad... -

1: I would look a the ends of the plug wires where they come out of the coils. Mine were corroded. I cut off about 1/2 inch of the wire and stuck it back in. Worked for me...I put dialetric grease on the outside of the wire where it went into coil to keep moisture out. 2: Then look at the wires going to each coil and make sure they are still connected! 3: Pull plugs, clean and gap...or put in 4 new plugs. Fronts are fun to get to...but I was successful by taking off the braces on both sides then using the tool kit spark plug tool to remove. If all this doesn't help...I'd start looking at the fuel lines/rails feeding the back carbs or the carbs themselves. But easy stuff first.,.. Keep us posted... david -
Fuel Pump or what?????
videoarizona replied to Spindel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
(Flip throttle she spits and sputters. Ease into it, seems to run fine as you up the RPMs.) That almost sounds like the carb diaphrams are not responding fast enough for throttle blips....stumbling on quick acceleration. That could be vacuum leak or small holes in diaphrams among other things.... -
Well...almost. The tank decal was not on bike when I bought and the fairing needed some touch up. So I had a local custom paint shop here match the factory paint on the tank for the fairing. I took off the silver plastic little dodads on the fairing thinking they may be interfering with the rain and didn't like the looks anyway. So far, the rain does a good job staying away from me so I think those little chrome strips do more harm then good when it comes to wind flow. So yes...as far as I know the tank and other pieces are factory but the fairing I re-painted. They did a great job matching paint. I do have to take better pics...the above are from my phone before I replaced the plastic cover over the camera lens. Pics are better now...but I do have some pro photog gear from old work days I should use to get some good shots. Thanks for the kind words!

3.5 mm Bluetooth adapter - pretty cool
videoarizona replied to dave_wells's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
That's cool. I bought this teeny little guy 6 months ago. It sits on the cassette shelf of the 2nd gen and plugs into the aux port. I can use any Bluetooth enabled phone or mp3 player to listen to tunes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0059M4G9K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 Wish I was younger cause I thing technology will pass me by at some point and there is some really cool stuff coming down the pike. david -
My daughter's 03 Taurus has been a pain in butt for past five years. Less than 65,000 miles and lots has gone wrong. Latest, fuel pump in tank... Top cracks and fuel vapors escape stinking up car. Makes one think the thing is going to blow up. Took it to two different dealers and they couldn't find anything wrong. Finally took it back to original dealer and told service manager if car blows up and kills my kid... I was going to own them. They found the top plastic cap of fuel pump that sits in gas tank was cracked. Replaced pump assembly for $900 bux. Two weeks later... Car died. Dealer picked up car with tow truck and took daughter to work. Pump had died... The new one. Three other issues.. Each costing just under a grand to repair before that. Now... One valve cover leaks oil... Going to cost almost another grand as so much stuff has to come off to get to gasket. I'm not too keen on that car... Needless to say. Glad to hear others don't have issues....
