  1. Pretty cool thread....more coming....?
  2. Small piece of window tint worked for me. Got a piece for free at a tint installer....scrap.
  3. Oil change: Any good Dino 2-10-40/20-50 (what I use) is good. Engine oil is also clutch/tranny oil so don't use modern slippery stuff or your clutch will slip. Brakes and clutch masters use brake fluid. Dot 3 or 4...go by book here. Oh....when doing an oil change do NOT go by book...make sure bike is level and then fill until oil is 1/2 way up the site glass (lower right side of engine). If shifting gets hard...change oil. I to recommend the jack adapter from Carbon One (member vendor here). It works as advertised and makes using a motorcycle lift a breeze. Weakest point is the rear shock. If it leaks, it's bad. BUT, make sure it's the shock leaking and not something else. Read, read, read. Lots of good info here. And at the bottom of all threads there are more links that are similar in nature. You can spend hours reading and tracking down infoi on one little detail and learn quite a bit!! Last, low speed handling is clumsy at best. I mean parking lot speed. I lowered my front end 3/4 inch and that improved it nicely. That's a free modification and took me about 3 hours first time. Now I can do U-turns without even thinking about them. Keep tire pressures up to top of what tire says, not Yamaha and you will find she's stable and handles well! Welcome...you got a great deal on a great scoot! david
  4. Best Wishes and Prayers Up from the Desert Southwest!
  5. ( But, I'm also considering resoldering the transistor to the board to see if maybe I just didn't solder it well enough. Anything else?) Suggestion:?: Go back to the beginning. Your problem started after re-soldering the board. Everything else is not germane to the discussion (although great ideas) until you've checked your solder joints. Once you've gone through and re-soldered the already re-soldered joints(on #2 cylinder area)...if the problem persists... then either you damaged something in the TCI in original soldering (possible) or something else failed at this point in time.(unlikely) My .02 cents worth...I'm following this as I may be in your shoes someday. My TCI is original but bikes runs great so I'm not touching that sucker!
  6. For those who are knee deep in white stuff.... Hope this helps...
  7. Yea...tried that too....so now we put the mast down!
  8. Saw a light colored RSV going into the Green Valley Hospital parking lot today at 1pm. I got off the freeway, went back and drove around the parking lot. No sign of bike. Do we have a new member in the Tucson area?
  9. (Im trying to make it original.) Hmm...well only place to find that is probably eBay. I've never seen a Yamaha headset, though do know they were available for quite a few years. Hopefully, someone has one tucked away somewhere... You could get the model number from older posts/ads that show some of the accessories available for the Venture Royale, then call some oldtime dealers around country and see if anyone might have one collecting dust on the shelf...
  10. It's the thought that counts! Thanks, Mama....and back at ya.
  11. Yea...that's why I got the one with the little cable. Sits nicely with no strain on aux port.
  12. Yep..CJ has the idea! That's what my buddy has but he got the version that has 7 pins for his HD Ultra. He can take his apart and put in helmet if he wanted. He only paid $30 for the ears, mic and cable. Don't know where he got it though.../
  13. Steve, I bought one of those endoscopes this past year specifically cause my 89 has a habit of stealing nuts, washers, bushings and anything else it can get it's grubby little wheels on. The camera has helped me find all sorts of stuff...some of which I'm sure the PO lost years back! BTW, there are two really nice hidey hole areas on a 1st Gen that catches little things. One is on top of the exhaust collector and the second is in behind the cylinders near the rear shock. Both of those areas are now accessable to me with my little camera! That is where I would look first. Then drain the oil and look up into the engine from the pan (with the little camera you are going to order!) I bet you will find it. The third place I've found lost goodies from the 89 is all the way across the garage floor. How the little thingies get that far is a mystery to me...but they do travel nicely! Good luck!
  14. No pics for me either after clicking on links
  15. There are some inexpensive wired mics out in web land. Some with headsets too. Just make sure they end in standard 5pin DIN plug....You can use an old style computer keyboard cable for an extension if needed.
  16. Actually, here is a Costco in Prescott, on rt 69 very close to where rt 89 is to go the back way into Sedona. I wonder how many people I can get in to a Costco with my card if all we want to do is eat hot dogs!
  17. Cool beans. Saw that on CBS news this morning. Guess these guys have missed the boat as far as spreading the news about hot dogs. They have had plenty of years to wrap up the hot dog franchises! http://www.wienerschnitzel.com/food/hot-dogs/ I personally love the Costco Hot dogs! $1.50 with drink and free saurkraut!!
  18. Prayers to Linda and family! And Jonesy ....wishing you Godspeed on your new journey.... Keep the rubber side down!
  19. In my playing around with the slime compressor, I don't think it's a high volume unit. Rather low volume, high pressure unit. Takes a while to pump up a tire, gets very hot. But I do think it could blow the seals quickly on shocks.
  20. Agreed. Doesn't sound like the tire caused the fall. But what else could have? Agreed also about riding the VR. My buddy who rides an HD Ultra Classic is impressed by how fast my 89 is.
  21. CJ, while riding a 250cc Yamaha DS6C from New Hampshire to Arizona, I had a rear tire go flat outside of Mineola Texas. The wonderful way the town took care of me is another story (being a serviceman heading for new duty station). But that's another story. The only indication I had was I found myself slowing down, then the rear end started to sashay down the road.... I pulled over and rear was flat. That was the only indication I had the tire was flat. Sorry to hear about RSV.... But do think you will thoroughly enjoy the VR!!
  22. Yes! It's works great....lasts a long time on charge and sits nicely in the cassette door when it's open. I keep forgetting to put some velcro on the inside of the door so I can velcro the unit to the inside of the door and not worry about it bouncing off. Plus...it also works inside the house where I can plug it through a stereo mini to RCA jack cable to the stereo and play anything bluetooth through the stereo too.
