  1. Don, You and I must be of the same computer generation. I started before Windows then went to 3, 3.1 and so on...right up to today. I'm Win XP on office machine - handles my data, music, videos and stills through three hard drives...and Win 7Pro for my professional editing machine. Since I'm retired, I'm hardly on the Pro machine...but thinking seriously of migrating what I can over to that machine and having on one desktop in the house. Problem for me...is the XP machine runs so well even though it's 9 years old. I kept upgrading MB, ram and processor to where I'm running top of the line Athlon, etc.. I like to be able to rip my DVD's easily, run Outlook Express for email (simple and fast), run an old version of Photoshop that has been with me for years as well..... Not sure I want to upgrade to 10 though as I'm running the Pro version of 7...and it's been solid as a rock. Guess someday soon I've got to make the change and drop the older system. Sigh.
  2. I have no clue what percentages it ended up being. Sorry...!
  3. :sign yeah that: I've used them and experience was great. Driver was cool and the trucks are huge and well done...just for transporting our scoots.
  4. Bob, You could use neutral density filter stuff...but the cheapest and easiest by far is simple window tint film. I went to an installer and asked for a handfull of scraps of different tint densities. And got some. A touch of super glue in two or three points along edge and no one is the wiser. BTW, I used a razor blade to cut through the super glue and take off the tint. No longer using it....using nothing...guess I got used to the bright light!
  5. Past taxes? Seems a little more than interesting since I've been retired since 2012 and have worked occassionally, and have investment income as well as social security and now don't pay taxes at all unless I sold investments and have capital gains. But I don't worry about that either since I have a huge carryover loss that the IRS only allows me to deduct a few pennies a year that will take beyond my life time to fully deduct! So...you sure about the taxes? Make too much in investments? Inquiring minds want to know....if you can/will.
  6. Awfully far to go for a hot dog! Grins! But since I love them...who knows!
  7. Some more pics of current Arizona weather. We have entered our riding season. We are actually way over our normals for this year. Broke 4 records in Tucson this past week...over 80 in February! Our normals are high 60's-low 70's and 50's at night. Perfect riding weather. Last night I went for a run to check out my lights with the RSV. Night before I rode the VR to check out lights. 70's last night when I took these two pics: Tomorrow...I'll take off to Rio Rico for one of those nice-sized omelets they have. Stuff them or not...one price $7.50 with potatoes! Yummm david
  8. Du-Ron has it nailed, above. I add: 1: whether you want a standard 4K or a "Smart" 4K. Smart simply means it has built in WIFI...so if you have WIFI in house, you can get youtube, Netflix, Vudu and a gazillion other channels if that appeals to you. As well as be able to access your own home WIFI network and one of your computers and watch movies and family pics on TV (some really do that!). I like being able to watch my bike GoPro videos through my wireless home network. 2: Some TV's also have the ability to work with unified remotes much easier than the old days. Read reviews on those you like to check it out. 3: some TV's, like the Sony Bravia series...allow you to work with the Sony tuner, Blue-Ray players, etc., and add features to the showing of movies directly through the TV. Like a real "system" should do. So it depends how you plan on upgrading your entire hifi system. Good luck...lots of choices! P.S. I'm keeping my 1967 Dynaco stereo stuff running. But that is another story...
  9. 2nd Gen Question: Curious if anyone has made something similar since they no longer make the VentureMp3 SD card player. Be nice to be able to use the CD input. TIA, david
  10. CJ, Puc said it all in one sentence: "Do your diaphrams and sync her down first - your peeing in the wind trying to tune with bad diaphrams" Then go from there. And yes, normal mpg's should be around 40 for average driving. Above 70mph and/or 2 up/trailers/heavy winds....mpg's go down. I average 38 to 44 with 75 mph indicated depending upon winds.
  11. Pretty cool thread....more coming....?
  12. Small piece of window tint worked for me. Got a piece for free at a tint installer....scrap.
  13. Oil change: Any good Dino 2-10-40/20-50 (what I use) is good. Engine oil is also clutch/tranny oil so don't use modern slippery stuff or your clutch will slip. Brakes and clutch masters use brake fluid. Dot 3 or 4...go by book here. Oh....when doing an oil change do NOT go by book...make sure bike is level and then fill until oil is 1/2 way up the site glass (lower right side of engine). If shifting gets hard...change oil. I to recommend the jack adapter from Carbon One (member vendor here). It works as advertised and makes using a motorcycle lift a breeze. Weakest point is the rear shock. If it leaks, it's bad. BUT, make sure it's the shock leaking and not something else. Read, read, read. Lots of good info here. And at the bottom of all threads there are more links that are similar in nature. You can spend hours reading and tracking down infoi on one little detail and learn quite a bit!! Last, low speed handling is clumsy at best. I mean parking lot speed. I lowered my front end 3/4 inch and that improved it nicely. That's a free modification and took me about 3 hours first time. Now I can do U-turns without even thinking about them. Keep tire pressures up to top of what tire says, not Yamaha and you will find she's stable and handles well! Welcome...you got a great deal on a great scoot! david
  14. Best Wishes and Prayers Up from the Desert Southwest!
  15. ( But, I'm also considering resoldering the transistor to the board to see if maybe I just didn't solder it well enough. Anything else?) Suggestion:?: Go back to the beginning. Your problem started after re-soldering the board. Everything else is not germane to the discussion (although great ideas) until you've checked your solder joints. Once you've gone through and re-soldered the already re-soldered joints(on #2 cylinder area)...if the problem persists... then either you damaged something in the TCI in original soldering (possible) or something else failed at this point in time.(unlikely) My .02 cents worth...I'm following this as I may be in your shoes someday. My TCI is original but bikes runs great so I'm not touching that sucker!
  16. For those who are knee deep in white stuff.... Hope this helps...
  17. Yea...tried that too....so now we put the mast down!
  18. Saw a light colored RSV going into the Green Valley Hospital parking lot today at 1pm. I got off the freeway, went back and drove around the parking lot. No sign of bike. Do we have a new member in the Tucson area?
  19. (Im trying to make it original.) Hmm...well only place to find that is probably eBay. I've never seen a Yamaha headset, though do know they were available for quite a few years. Hopefully, someone has one tucked away somewhere... You could get the model number from older posts/ads that show some of the accessories available for the Venture Royale, then call some oldtime dealers around country and see if anyone might have one collecting dust on the shelf...
  20. It's the thought that counts! Thanks, Mama....and back at ya.
  21. Yea...that's why I got the one with the little cable. Sits nicely with no strain on aux port.
  22. Yep..CJ has the idea! That's what my buddy has but he got the version that has 7 pins for his HD Ultra. He can take his apart and put in helmet if he wanted. He only paid $30 for the ears, mic and cable. Don't know where he got it though.../
  23. Steve, I bought one of those endoscopes this past year specifically cause my 89 has a habit of stealing nuts, washers, bushings and anything else it can get it's grubby little wheels on. The camera has helped me find all sorts of stuff...some of which I'm sure the PO lost years back! BTW, there are two really nice hidey hole areas on a 1st Gen that catches little things. One is on top of the exhaust collector and the second is in behind the cylinders near the rear shock. Both of those areas are now accessable to me with my little camera! That is where I would look first. Then drain the oil and look up into the engine from the pan (with the little camera you are going to order!) I bet you will find it. The third place I've found lost goodies from the 89 is all the way across the garage floor. How the little thingies get that far is a mystery to me...but they do travel nicely! Good luck!
  24. No pics for me either after clicking on links
