Ok, it's Saturday, why aren't you on your RSV???
petekadish replied to massey130's topic in Watering Hole
On our last two Saturday's, Sandy & I were on the road at the Star BQ in Medford, OR and then down in CA. We road over 3,600 great miles. This Saturday, I just sat in my sunny driveway cleaning and polishing my Venture. Yep, not a very productive day, but at least the bikes looks good now. -
Smooth, Billet, Passenger Floorboard Backing Plates

I should have taken care of this with you in the first place rather than shopping around before checking with you first. If another set is still available for my '07 Venture, I would like them. I'm still on the road until next Tuesday though. I can E-Mail, Pay-Pal or call you in the payment to ship them to Orem, Utah. Whatever works best for you. I'll also be able to be on-line for the next three days so I can check my E-Mail for your reply. Thanks! Pete. -
I dropped in to my local Yamaha dealer last week to pick-up a can or two of Plexus, and they were asking almost $20 a can for it. The price has almost doubled from the last time I bought it. Anyone else notice a price increase lately. Pete.

Smooth, Billet, Passenger Floorboard Backing Plates
petekadish replied to petekadish's topic in Watering Hole
Annie, I would order the ones from Mainiac if I were you. I should have. It would have saved me some money. My problem that I didn't get an answer right back, and I assumed that he was out of them and went looking elsewhere. My bad! He should be able to take good care of you. Let me know if you need further assistance, and I'll see what I can do. Be Safe! Pete. -
Smooth, Billet, Passenger Floorboard Backing Plates

Ron Ayers didn't have the parts anymore, but they did have a parts-finder system which immediately found them through "Cycle World" (in Maryland, I believe). So, I'm good to go now. Thanks for the help! Pete. -
I would love a cooler helmet! When I am wearing a helmet and the temperatures rise, I experience scalp itch to the point where I just want to fling my helmet off the side of the road. It's not my shampoo (or lack thereof), which causes this reaction, but is just an acute sensitivity to wearing things (even ball caps) on my head when it's hot. I have tried (and I own), several types of different styles of helmets. And, all of them after so long push my endurance to the breaking point. I have also tried different kinds of doo-rags which do help a little, but they don't solve the problem. I have only met a couple other riders who experience what I often refer to as Helmet Fleas to the same degree which I do. It's not a matter of cleanliness, just sensitivity which reacts in unbearable itching. Perhaps, it's an allergic reaction to the foam core inside helmets. I don't know. Because of this situation, I often compromise my safety and don't ride with a helmet. And, that's the only reason I don't wear one when I know that I ought too. I know that it's stupid, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I think that if there was a way to significantly improve the air-circulation inside a helmet, that it might help my situation out. Anyone else out there experience this problem? Pete.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a set of the smooth backing plates? Apparently, Yamaha has discontinued this item. # STR-4NK27-03-01 I have contacted a number of the better-know dealers which we often refer each other too, but have had no luck. Odds are though, there just has to be a set sitting around somewhere. Thanks guys! Pete.

Does anyone know where I could still pick-up a set of these. I would like new ones if possible, but would settle for used ones if they still look really good. Apparently, these are currently unavailable from the factory distributor. Hopefully, someone has a set sitting around somewhere. Thanks guys! Pete & Sandy

On my '07 Midnight Venture, one of the screws, which attaches the Audio Head unit (which is mounted on the handlebars) has fallen out and is lost. The other screw is still there, so the audio control unit sort of pivots now. But, I figure that it would be best to have both of them where they belong. I believe that there are just the two screws which secure that unit from below. Does anyone know what that part number is please? I might as well have the shop replace it under warranty when I have the bike in there this next week for service. Thanks guys! Pete.

Thanks BuddyRich! That was just what I was looking for. Be Safe! Pete.

Okay, here's a picture of the left floorboard. The screw which I am missing, is right in front of the inside cowling (or cover), which is directly in front of the left floorboard. My big toe would be pointing at the hole which you can see. I am trying to figure-out exactly what screw goes in that hole. Even better, would be Yamaha's official, descriptive part number. 2007, Midnight Venture Does the picture help? Thanks guys! Pete.

Apparently, I had a screw loose (in more ways than one, I'm sure), but this one was on my '07 Venture, and it's no longer loose, it's gone! Darn! I hate loosing parts. My probably with this one in particular, is that I can't locate it in Yamaha's exploded microfiche. The dealer can't find the part number either. We're both stumped. Let me try and explain where and what it is. There is a section of plastic (ABS) directly in front of the left floorboard. I always called it "Cowling", but perhaps that's not the correct term for that part. Anyway, directly in front of my left floorboard in that plastic piece, there is a place for a screw of some type. That's what's missing off my bike. The plastic piece now rattles a bit, and vibrates at speed. I would like to know a Yamaha Part number for that particular screw if possible. And, even more importantly . . . exactly what size and type of screw I would need to replace it correctly. Any assistance would certainly be appreciated. Thanks! Pete & Sandy

Not mine originally, but I thought it was pretty clever ..., Make two piles. In one pile, put everything that you want to take. In the other pile, place all the money that you plan to spend. Then, take away about 80% of the stuff you want to take, leaving only 20% of the stuff which you need to take. Then, triple the amount of money in your spending pile, and you should have it just about right. Be Safe! Pete.

I believe that President Clinton had an Aircraft Stripper on Air-force One, but President Bush decided that she wasn't appropriate. I know that my wife wouldn't approve. So, you might want to just listen to the radio while you work on it to be safe. Pete.

I purchased an old Royal which was caught in a garage fire years ago. The heat kinda baked the clear-coat on the front end of the bike and gave it sort of a brass look. To remove the old clear-coat I used a combination of three things. 3M Scotchbrite Pads, Carb or brake cleaner and some Flitz metal polish. Oh yea ..., lots of elbow grease, rags, a long winter and patience Be aware that carb & brake cleaner is pretty caustic stuff. It's hard on skin and will mess-up a lot of things you wished that it didn't get on. I did all the work by hand without removing the parts from the bike, and it was a pretty tedious process. I'm sure that if the parts were removed, someone who had the proper equipment could do it much quicker and easier. Attached are a few pictures of what I had to work with. Good luck! Pete.

but, you wouldn't know it unless you looked at a calendar. Check out the attached pictures I shot this morning The last couple of days have been crazy for weather. Three weeks ago, it was 74 degrees on one Saturday. The last two days (in the middle of April), it's been snowing like crazy. Next Tuesday, it's supposed to be about 75 degrees. This is clearly more evidence of Global Warming. I just want to ride! Pete.

The Venture mics are open by default. With the Mic Mutes, you and your passenger have the option of tapping-on or tapping-off both mics by a tap of your Push to Talk button. When your mics are turned-off, you can listen to just your music or nothing at all in complete silence. If either you or your passenger wants to turn-on or turn-off the mics, a simple tap of the the PTT button is all that's needed. I never tried Hotrod's suggestion, but that might work well for you, and it's certainly cheap and easy to try out. Pete.

I double-checked the information with Dynatek's web site, and the 2007 Venture call for the Model D3K7-7 for a cost of $208.70. That's a good price! When I purchased this Venture new in '07, there wasn't a Dyna 3000, available for it. At least that's what Dynatek told me. I had one on my old '96 Royal Star and was very impressed with it. I hope to see the same kind performance with my Venture as I did with my '96 RS. Pete

Okay, I got my tax refund and there's probably enough left over to pick-up a DK3 for my '07 Venture. Anyone have any good leads on where I can find the best price for one? Thanks! Pete.

OMG! as my teeagerdaughters would say. I installed these last spring for my wife and I and I couldn't be happier. I no longer have to listen to all of that background wind noise picked-up through our microphones. They make a world of difference! For those of us who really care about getting the best quality music we can (considering the poor listening environment of a motorcycle on the road), Mic Mutes are the way to go. Yes, they are worth every penny, and probably more. Definately, a satisfied customer! Be Safe! Pete.

Last year, we got a season pass along with the credit-type card pass, and we never attached anything to the bike. We also road through many Natl. Parks and it was never an issue (or even a question). Pete.

We camped at the Lake Louise Camground a couple of years ago, and the whole camping area was protected by an electrified fence. I was more afraid of the fence than any bears (which I never saw). Pete.

Where are you planning to travel this summer?
petekadish replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
Southwest Star B.Q. Las Vegas March Star Days Billing, MT July Northwest Star B.Q. Medford, OR August Pacific Coast Highway, CA August And, all over in-between. Now, I just need to ask my boss for the time-off (cross fingers). Pete. -
This would clearly be unacceptable for law enforcement, but still be considered an accident if the driver of the car was busy sending text messages or speaking on a cell phone. Go figure! Pete.

Another vote for Microsoft Streets & Trips - very helpful! I also agree on the recommendation of a good GPS. Find a way to mount it which works well with your bike and with which you're comfortable. I use RAM Mounts for my GPS and my satellite radio. I am very happy with them. And ... the recommendation to come-up with a general idea of where you wish to go first, and then everyone else will be able to offer you all sorts of great suggestions based on their experiences. Hummm, I haven't said anything new which hasn't already been said already. Pete.
