Hey all. My bike has been sitting awhile (2 weeks) and I started to take it for a spin yesterday so I started her up and let her run while I got my duds on. One thing led to another and I did not get to go on my ride so I shut her off and went about doing something else. A while later I walked by and noticed a spot of "clear oily substance" on the floor behind the side stand. At first I thought it was water but I touched it and it is thick like oil but clear. I felt up under the frame in the area I believe the leak is from and I felt something but not sure what are where it is coming from. I will investigate more when I get home. Any ideas what it could be? Looking at the left side of the bike it is behind the kick-stand. What is puzzeling to me is that it is clear in color. Oil would be darker and my oil level is good.

I do mine every oil change. With CarbTune it only takes a few minutes.

The Dragon and Cherohala are in the same area. I too prefer the Skyway over the Dragon. There are several roads in the area worth riding. Go to tailofthedragon.com website and get more info. You can print out a map of the "loop" which includes the Dragon and the Cherohala. Don't over look the "Hell Bender" (hyw. 28). Two Wheel Inn in Robbinsville is a great place to stay.

Sorry I missed it. That's a great bunch to ride with. Mostly Harleys but they will let a Yamaha tag along every now and then. I rode to Daytona with some of them last year and to the Dragon earlier this year. They know how to have a good time.

MARCARL, you stated you run your driving lights on high and low beam. Mine is a second gen and my driving lights only come on with low beam. Yours being a first gen may be different. My question is, do I have to re-wire mine to come on with high beam or am I missing something? I have thought about this several times but have never asked or seen anyone posting about it. Any thought, anyone???

"He told me he has chrome floor boards, air covers and mustang seat." Does Mustang make a seat for the Venture?
-
"I did replace the plugs and gapped em .08 ." I'm not sure about the gap on RSTD but on RSV they should be .035. I believe it's the same engine. Am I wrong on this?

"the first filter i bought was a WIX" I'm with JETHROISH on the Wix issue. I have used them the last few oil changes and have not had a problem with them. I will keep using them until I do. Are you sure you got the correct WIX filter?

"I use Rotella T 15w40 and a Purolater PureOne PL14610 oil filter. Oil change costs me 16 bucks." Is the Rotella that much cheaper than Mobil1? I use 4T racing synthetic @ $8.50 (+/-) and Wix filter. I have right at $40 in an oil change.

I got the 0-60 Progressive pump about a year ago from local Harley dealer for $39.99, cheaper than direct from Progressive. Only drawback is the Harley logo...

Would there be a Differance in Mufflers

The slip-ons I have came off an Ultra Classic, according to the guy I bought them from. I don't think it matters as long as they don't have a cat-converter. The size should match the RSV. -
Made a trip to "The Dragon" this past weekend and left there in awe. The dragon was "ok" but the surrounding roads were much better. We left at 7:00am for what should have been a 5-6 hour trip and 11 hours later we rolled into our motel parking lot. We did not want to go interstate so we traveled back roads through northeast Alabama and northern Georgia. I don't recall the road numbers but if you get a chance and are in no hurry get you a map and try to find Suches from Cartersville and travel through Wolf Pass over Blood Mountain ending up in Robbinsville, NC. You will travels roads the Dragon only dreams about. It is well worth the detour... Once you get there the Dragon/Cherohala loop is a must but be sure to add the Hell Bender to your "things to do list".

New Member, Oil change question
jrcain32 replied to Racso's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have a RSV and I believe it has the same engine as RSTD. As for plugs, there is one for oil and one for rear end gear oil. The gear oil one is on the rear wheel assembly (final drive) area. What oil did the dealer give you? If they are like most Yama dealers they have no clue as to the correct oil for our engines. They most likely gave you 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil in stead of 4-cycle water cooled engine oil. You might want to check. -
Go to Venturedad.com and look under "coming soon" tab. He may already be producing these. Give him a call. Excellent to do business with...

I just ordered OEM disc from Mama Yama expecting to change mine, front and rear. When I pulled the calipers off the old ones looked new, hardly any wear. My bike has 38K miles but I bought it used. I not sure if the previous owner changed them before me. I've put close to 7K on them myself. I use a lot of front break and some rear. 5200 miles does not seam like a lot to me. If it were me I would try a different brand.

I read somewhere in an article about the "Dragon" that any bend in the road is counted as a curve. The way I read it was that any change of direction, no matter how minor, from a slight bend to a hair pin curve was counted. That can add up quick. I will get to see first hand in 3 weeks. I'm more excited about riding the "Cherohola Skyway" than I am the Dragon. According to an other article more people are killed on it than the Dragon, because of speed more than anything else. If you stay within your limits all should be well. We shall see...
