This is the first I've heard about not using this filter. I have been using it for the last 3 oil changes. What's the problem with it?

Will a sear shock off an '05 and up fit on an '04 and down? The picture on the Yamaha parts list is different and the part # is different. It's also cheaper than the older one.

Just got my renewal notice from Progressive. $134 full coverage, $44 cheaper than last year.

What seat do you have? If your seat has not already been modifided you can have it cut down and probably gain an inch or two. Rick Butler, a member on this forum, does this and from what everyone says, you will not be disappointed.

Anyone have an old rear shock (still in working condition) laying around not being used, from maybe a trike conversion. I need to replace the one on my '99 but I do not have $600 to spare right now. If i could find a used one that will get me by until I can come up with the cash for a new one, that would be great. I'm not asking for a hand out, I will pay a reasonable price for a used one. Can anyone help a brother out???

Made basically the same trip as you a few weeks ago . Beautiful country.

"There is some current draw (very small and I have not checked to see how small) that is always draining that maintains the radio pre-sets and the clock time." That is what we assumed the draw was for, radio pre-sets and clock/odometer. It was a very small amount and the person doing the checking said that was normal. It was measured with the switch off. I'm sure there is a wire rubbed somewhere that is causing this. I have not added any extra lights recently that may be causing this. A few months ago (6) I added a trailer harness but have ridden several miles since with no problem. I'm thinking some wire must have rubbed through on this trip to cause this. After this weekend I'll have a better idea what to look for.

I have a good one for you electrically inclined... This may be long so bear with me. A few weeks ago I was on a trip to the Dragon and after a long day of riding we returned to our motel and my bike died. No power at all. First thought ignition switch, but after further investigation we determined my battery was shot. It was late on Saturday and I called a local bike shop and had them stay open until I got there to buy new battery. I put new battery in and bike fired right up. All was well, I thought. Sunday we started home and after a few hours on the road we stop to take a break and when we went to leave my new battery was dead. I had to push the bike off to get it started. I had installed the Stebel horn the week before so I thouoght that may have something to do with my battery being drained. At the suggestion of a fellow rider, at our next stop I unplugged what I thought was the wire going to the horn but instead it was the wires going to my tail/brake lights. He wanted to see if the battery would recharge itself after a few miles. It did. This tells me something in the wiring going to the rear of the bike has a short that may be pulling the battery down. No fuses were blown. After I got home I had my neighbor check everything that could be checked to see if he could find the problem. We checked the battery for proper voltage, both with the bike running and not running. We checked the wiring for broke wires or bare spots that could cause a short. We could not find anything wrong. With bike not running the draw on the battery was 0.04 volts/amps (?). With it running it was putting out 13.8 volts/amps. (I know nothing about this stuff so I don't know if it is volts or amps.) I have plugged my lights back up but I have not riden my bike for any extended length of time to see if I still have the problem. Just sitting in my garage the battery seems to be fine. It has started right up everytime. I plan on riding it for a few hours this weekend to see what happens. Does any one have any ideas? What would draw the battery's juice while the bike is running? The alternator seems to be working properly.

I looked there BigSexy but I'm not sure it will work. I should have noted that mine is a '99 and they changed the shock after '04, according to the OEM parts list. So I guess I would need one from '99-'04 unless someone can tell me if an '08 will work. I was thinking that nothing has changed on these bikes since '99 but there are a few suttle changes like shock, running lights (blinkers), etc. I know because I ordered clear running light lenses and amber bulbs to put on my '99. I had to order them off a '05 and above because they did not offer clear in '99. The lenses were fine but the bulbs were different and would not fit the socket. So, I have a set of amber bulbs for '05 and above if anyone needs them cheap...

I am in the process of changing all my blinker to clear linses and new amber bulbs and I can't get the old bulbs out. The first one twisted off in my hand leaving the base in the socket. I am assuming I have to push the bulb in and turn counterclockwise like the manual states. Mine is '99 RSV and I doubt the bulbs have ever been changed. I have never seen a socket quite like this one. It has a metal strip across the base. Should I remove that strip before trying to remove the bulb? I tried this but when I rotated the bulb the whole socket moved. Someone please set me straight on this. I have one rear bulb broken and do not want to try another one until I am clear as what to do.

I say tires also. 7200 miles on a set of Dunlops is good. I never got more then 6000-6500 before I had to make a change. I went with Michelin Commanders and am very happy.
-
I'm sure you will like the Avons but the Commanders are good also. I was leaning strong towards the Avons until some people started to have problems with them. Maybe you won't. I went with the Commanders because of Michelin's reputation. I have their tires on my cagers and they have been great.

Congratulations on a job well done:happy65:. Baseball is the only sport in which I will pull for LSU. They have the best program in the SEC and one of the best in the country. Now when it comes to football I have to pull for the others Tigers... WAR EAGLE!!

Thanks KK for the info. It has been a long time since we have been to Cherokee and I'm sure it is like most tourist towns. We will probably just pass thru on our way to the BRP. Maybe we will stop in Maggie Valley for the night go from there. I've ridden the Dragon but my brother has not so I'm sure we will have to ride it. The Cherohala is a must. Thanks again and ride safe...

To me, I think of the BRP as my "Magic Carpet Ride". RandyA Thanks Randy for some good information. I too think the BRP is something magical, but it's all in my head because I have not been there. I'm looking forward to changing my thought and dreams into reality. (That sounds sissy doesn't it?) I am excited about our trip. I hope I'm not disappointed. I have "tamed" the Dragon and have crossed the Cherohala and I look forward to doing it again also. That is a beautiful part of the country and if I had my choice I would live there someday.

My brother and I are planning a trip in late September to the Dragon and on up the BRP. The first stop will be in Robbinsville to stay overnight and hit the Dragon/Cherohala the following day. After a day of fun there we plan to head over to Cherokee late in the afternoon and either stop there for the night or get on the BRP and head north for a few miles, probably Ashville or there about. The next day we will continue north until we decide to turn around and head back toward home. Are there any suggestions, from you who know the area, as what to see and where to eat? I'v been told the best streatch of the BRP is between Cherokee and Ashville. Is this true or have I been mis-led? How 'bout it folks. Let me hear from you...

You can pick up a nice chrome one at your local Harley-Davidson store. They do not have the Harley logo (surprise) and they are at the parts desk, or at least that is where they were at my local store. It comes with 2 different size insulators and I believe they are $21.95. Not bad coming from a HD establishment.
